Clinton Portis will be a game-time decision on Sunday, according to the Washington Post. He is still battling a sprained knee.

Our View:Portis pledged earlier this week that he would play Sunday at Seattle, "no ifs, ands or buts about it." We like his chances of being available, but he does figure to share more of the load with Ladell Betts and Shaun Alexander.
November 20, 2008
Clinton Portis missed Thursday's practice while nursing his sore knee, according to the Washington Post.

Our View:Coach Jim Zorn still expects him to play Sunday in a favorable match-up against the Seahawks' 21st ranked run defense.
November 19, 2008
Clinton Portis was limited in Wednesday's practice, according to the Washington Post.

Our View:His knee is still sore, but vows to play in Week 12 at Seattle. He should remain penciled into fantasy lineups, especially against the Seahawks' 21st ranked run defense.
November 17, 2008
As expected, running back Clinton Portis got fewer carries than usual against Dallas, and his knee got through the game fine, so he may be able to practice before the team takes on Seattle, according to the Washington Post.

Our View:Portis carried the ball 15 times, and was fairly productive, with 68 yards. Should his knee hold up this week, fantasy owners should not hesitate to use him in a solid matchup against the Seahawks.
November 16, 2008
Clinton Portis carried the ball 15 times for 68 yards and added two catches for six yards in the Redskins' loss to the Cowboys Sunday night.

Our View:Not a bad effort from Portis, who was playing through a knee injury. He has a nice matchup with the Seahawks in Week 12.
November 16, 2008
Running back Clinton Portis (knee) will be active for the Week 11 tilt against the Cowboys.

Our View:Portis is likely to be limited in his role, and he could end up sharing with Ladell Betts, among others. Fantasy owners are still gambling if they use the tough veteran.
November 16, 2008
Running back Clinton Portis (knee) will be a game-time decision for Sunday night's game against the Cowboys, Adam Schefter of NFL Network reports.

Our View:Other sites have said that Portis is not expected to play, and previous reports noted that Clinton would play a limited role even if he is active. Fantasy owners should not risk using Portis.
November 16, 2008
Sporting News Today reports that it appears Clinton Portis won't be available for Sunday's game.

Our View:Even if Portis did play, he would be limited. Hopefully, you have your replacement ready.
November 14, 2008
Clinton Portis will be in a limited role for Sunday's game if his knee is ready, according to the Associated Press.

Our View:Fantasy owners might be better off going with other options at running back for this week. Portis could still miss Sunday's game completely, but if he plays, it's unlikely that he'll be very productive in fantasy.
November 14, 2008
Clinton Portis commented on his injury and playing status for Week 11 against Dallas, according to the Dallas Morning News. Portis said, "It's getting better, but I won't say, 'oh, I'm ready. You know, I have until Sunday to make a decision, so that's when I will make it. We're going to see how I feel before the game. We're going to find out."

Our View:He added that he has two days left to get ready to play. He hasn't practiced all week due to a sprained MCL in his knee. He was on the field Friday but only to watch. Portis expects to undergo six more treatments and two massages before the game.
November 14, 2008
Clinton Portis is absent from Friday's practice while dealing with his knee injury, according to the Washington Post.

Our View:Portis is unlikely to play in Week 11 against Dallas. Ladell Betts and Shaun Alexander would handle the workload at running back if he is ruled out.
November 13, 2008
After thinking that Clinton Portis would be a game-time decision, reality set in for the Washington Redskins, and it seems unlikely that the running back will play in the team's game against Dallas, according to ESPN.com.

Our View:Ladell Betts will get the start in place of Portis should he not be able to go, and Shaun Alexander will be his backup. The Redskins battle the NFC East rival Cowboys.
November 13, 2008
Washington running back Clinton Portis has finally been able to straighten his leg, but he is not practicing, and it is a certainty that he will be a game-time decision, according to the Dallas Morning News.

Our View:Unfortunately for fantasy owners, Portis does not play until Sunday night, which means that it likely won't be possible to know his availability until after decisions have to be made on whether to put him into lineups or risk getting no points out of him.
November 12, 2008
Clinton Portis is absent from the early portion of Wednesday's practice while nursing his sprained MCL, according to the Washington Post.

Our View:It appears that he could be a game-time decision for Sunday's NFC East showdown with Dallas.
November 11, 2008
NFL.com is reporting that Clinton Portis has a second-degree MCL sprain in his left knee that is causing him pain and won’t allow him to straighten his leg.

Our View:Even with the news of the MCL strain, Portis has not ruled himself out for this week. Portis owners should keep a close eye on him because it will be a surprise if he plays this week.
November 10, 2008
Coach Jim Zorn considers Clinton Portis to be 50-50 to play in Week 11 against division rival Dallas, according to the Washington Post.

Our View:He is dealing with a sprained knee that has gotten worse since the Redskins' last game November 3. If he misses the game, Shaun Alexander and Rock Cartwright would likely share the workload, as Ladell Betts isn't expected to be ready.

Clinton Portis, who is nursing hip and ankle ailments, returned to practice Friday, according to the Washington Post.

October 29, 2008
Redskins running back Clinton Portis, who was named the NFC's Offensive Player of the Month, did not participate in practice on Wednesday due to soreness in his ankle and hip, according to the Washington Post.

October 27, 2008
It has been disclosed that Clinton Portis suffered a sprained ankle when he left Sunday's game against the Lions, according to the Washington Post.

October 26, 2008
Running back Clinton Portis exited the game against Detroit in the fourth quarter with an undisclosed injury.

October 26, 2008
Running back Clinton Portis is questionable on the injury report with ankle and hip injuries, but will play today against Detroit, according to Adam Schefter of the NFL Network.

Our View:In the past four games this season, Portis has compiled 98 carries for 570 yards and four touchdowns. This week he faces a Detroit defense that is allowing 167 rushing yards per game, ranking 31st in the league.
October 25, 2008
Clinton Portis could become just the second player in the history of the NFL to rush for 120 yards five games in a row twice in a career if he gets that many yards Sunday against the Lions, according to the Minneapolis Star Tribune.

Our View:The other player to do so? O.J. Siimpson. Portis seems a good bet to accomplish the feat considering the Lions' porous run defense.
October 24, 2008
Clinton Portis fully practiced and is expected to start Sunday at Detroit, according to the Washington Post. He had been nursing various bumps and bruises, but coach Jim Zorn said, "He's getting better and better. He did everything. He didn't do it at full speed, but he's been getting all the work done. The thing about Clinton, he's worked his body hard."

Our View:Portis is leading the NFL with just over 23 rushing attempts per game, and should be headed for another strong outing as the Redskins aim to exploit the Lions' 31st ranked run defense.
October 23, 2008
Clinton Portis was held out for most of the Redskins practice on Thursday, but he is expected to play this weekend, according to the Washington Post.

Our View:This was nothing more than getting a guy with 163 rushes some time to recover from all the hits he has taken. He has a fantastic matchup against the Detroit Lions 31st-ranked run defense.
October 22, 2008
Clinton Portis was held out of Wednesday's practice to rest, according to the Washington Post.

Our View:He should be fine for a full workload Sunday in a favorable match-up against Detroit, but he is sitting out today to recover from various bruises.
October 20, 2008
Clinton Portis is banged up and is likely to be limited in practice throughout the week, according to the Washington Post.

Our View:He is sore after handling 163 rushing attempts over the first seven games, but will be good to go for Sunday's favorable match-up at Detroit.
October 19, 2008
Clinton Portis was listed as questionable to play this week, but the answer to the question was 175 yards rushing and a touchdown.

Our View:Portis has now had four 100 yard rushing games and has reached the end zone seven times. It will be another favorable match-up for Portis next week when the Lions visit Washington.
October 17, 2008
Clinton Portis is being listed as questionable to play in Week 7 because of his injured hip, according to ESPN.com. The good news is that Portis returned to practice on Friday. "He ran around pretty good," HC Jim Zorn said. "Nothing for him was absolute burst full-speed, but I saw him make some cuts both left and right."

Our View:Given this report, we fully expect Portis to suit up to face the Browns, a club that has allowed an average of 137 yards a game on the ground this season (25th in the NFL).
October 16, 2008
The Washington Post reports that Clinton Portis will likely not practice untilSaturday's walk through due to a sore hip flexor.

Our View:Hip flexor's don't tend to heal vary fast so Portis owners should have a backup plan in the case that Portis has to shut it down for a week or two. As of now, he should start on Sunday.
October 15, 2008
Updating an earlier report, Clinton Portis sat out today's practice due to a hip flexor, according to the Washington Post.

Our View:Coach Jim Zorn stated that there is no doubt that he will play this weekend, so fantasy owners should not be concerned with the ailment. Portis has rushed for 643 yards so far and has a favorable match-up against the Browns' 25th ranked run defense.
October 15, 2008
Clinton Portis sat out Wednesday's practice, according to the Washington Post.

October 12, 2008
Running back Clinton Portis notched 21 carries for 129 yards and two touchdowns in the Week 6 loss to St. Louis.

Our View:In the past three games, Kid Bro Sweets has compiled 71 carries for 395 yards and three touchdowns. Portis has 21 or more carries in every game this year and has scored six touchdowns this season.
October 5, 2008
Running back Clinton Portis rushed 29 times for 145 yards and a touchdown in the Week 5 win over the Eagles. He also chipped in two receptions for 13 yards.

Our View:The veteran workhorse continues to carry the load for the Redskins and fantasy owners. He may no longer be very explosive, but he is consistently productive and a No. 1 fantasy back.
September 28, 2008
Portis rushed for 121 yards on 21 carries vs. Dallas on Sunday and added 14 receiving yards on two catches.

Our View:He now has at least 21 carries in each of his four games this season and has been extremely productive for fantasy owners during Washington's three-game winning streak.
September 25, 2008
Redskins running back Clinton Portis accused the Arizona Cardinals of playing dirty in their Week 3 matchup, according to the Washington Post. "They cheap-shotted Randy [Thomas] early on in the game unnecessarily, then they were getting away with some things, you know, the extra pushing. And I think one time Santana got tackled, if you see the guy get up he kneed Santana in the face when he was still on the ground," Portis said.

Our View:Nonetheless, the Redskins got the last laugh, beating Arizona 24-17. Portis had a solid but unspectacular contest, rushing 21 times for 68 yards and a touchdown while also catching two passes for 19 yards.
September 21, 2008
Clinton Portis compiled 21 carries for 68 yards and one touchdown in the Week 3 victory over Arizona.

Our View:Portis has compiled 20 or more carries each week this season, and has scored four touchdowns in the past three games.
September 14, 2008
Clinton Portis rushed for 96 yards and two scores on 21 carries in Sunday's victory over New Orleans. He added two catches for three yards.

Our View:Portis made headlines over the weekend with some controversial comments about his team, but the Washington offense was clicking on all cylinders Sunday.
September 13, 2008
On Wednesday, Clinton Portis lashed out at coach Jim Zorn's scheme as well as the offensive line's play, according to the Washington Post. He said he wished he "could go to a team for one week with the best offensive line, or the team with the best scheme, and switch places with their back and see how others would do in this system." He also said that he was frustrated with having to dodge "all the people in the backfield, fighting just to get back to the line of scrimmage, and people [are] looking around like, 'Oh, he just missed it.' I'm dodging people getting the handoff, because nobody's really respecting us as a passing team."

Our View:Portis should have kept his mouth shut, but unfortunately he's spot on with his comments. We'll see if his teammates have any sort of response, whether it be verbally or with improved play.
September 4, 2008
Clinton Portis rushed 23 times for 84 yards as the Skins fell to the G-men 16-7 Thursday night.

Our View:The good news is Portis got 23 attempts to run the ball. The bad news is the passing game needs to get on track to open up some running room.
August 27, 2008
Clinton Portis wants to play in the Redskins final preseason game, though that is traditionally a game when most starters are rested, according to Redskins.com. "Coach, I'm playing against Jacksonville," Portis said to reporters.

Our View:The 'Skins were annihilated 47-3 by the Carolina Panthers in their last preseason game, and many of the starters do not want to end their exhibition season that way. Head coach Jim Zorn said that Portis' wish will come true, as the offensive starters will play one series.
August 16, 2008
Redskins running back Clinton Portis will not play in the team's preseason game against the Jets, according to Sporting News Today. He has conceded it is Brett Favre's night, and did not sound too upset about getting the rest, saying, "I'm not crushed."

Our View:Portis will watch from the sidelines, which is just fine with fantasy owners who do not want to see their high-round pick get injured.
August 7, 2008
It turns out that Redskins running back Clinton Portis will play on Saturday against Buffalo, according to the Washington Post. It has been previously reported that Portis would sit that game out. He seemed none too thrilled with the news, saying, "s this [going to be] good? For who? For y'all? For the media? For the public? I guess. But what's good for [No.] 26 is rest. Rest is important. Rest is vital."

Our View:Fantasy owners are likely to agree with Portis, and are just hoping he doesn't get hurt. The chances of that are not great, however, as he will be out there for a very limited number of snaps.
August 6, 2008
Clinton Portis is unlikely to suit up for Saturday's preseason tilt against the Bills, the Washington Post notes. The running back also sat out the Hall of Fame game versus the Colts.

Our View:The Redskins have no reason to risk their top offensive asset until either their fourth or fifth preseason game. We're not worried about his fantasy value.
July 15, 2008
The Washington Post expects head coach Jim Zorn to feature running back Clinton Portis, especially during an opening month that includes all three NFC East road games. An effective Portis would allow quarterback Jason Campbell to become acclimated to the newly installed West Coast offense early in the season.

Our View:Zorn already has said Portis won't have the freedom to take himself out of games this season, which means No. 26 will have to be a workhorse and centerpiece of the offensive scheme.
June 9, 2008
Clinton Portis remains excused from the Redskins' OTA sessions, according to the Washington Post. Coach Jim Zorn said he is very comfortable with Portis being away right now and that it's the right thing for him to do.

Our View:His situation has not been disclosed, but Zorn confirmed it is nothing serious, and is more of a "celebration." Regardless of what that means, Portis could miss a few more days.
June 5, 2008
Clinton Portis missed practice on Thursday with a situation that was deemed as "nothing serious" by HC Jim Zorn, according to the Washington Post. However, Zorn then went on to say that Portis could also end up missing some practice time next week as well.

Our View:Portis has been dealing with some discomfort in his hip, but reportedly this situation has nothing to do with him missing practice time. Stay tuned for more clarification on the matter.
June 2, 2008
Coach Jim Zorn said that Clinton Portis will no longer be pulling himself out of games as he did while under Joe Gibbs, according to the Washington Post. Zorn said, "I don't think that's something that's going to happen here. That's not the way our offense is designed. I don't think that will be the way that we function on the football field."

Our View:Portis' solid blocking and receiving abilities were not taken advantage of enough under Gibbs, and Zorn plans to utilize him more in those areas in his West Coast offensive system. Portis caught 47 passes in 2007, and that number will surely rise if he stays healthy this season, making him a potentially solid prospect for PPR leagues in 2008.
June 1, 2008
After four years of operating in Joe Gibbs' run-first power running attack, the Redskins are shifting to Jim Zorn's horizontal West Coast scheme. The question is whether the Redskins have the personnel to be successful in this attack? Quarterback Jason Campbell will have to learn a new offense and how does Clinton Portis and the running game fit in?

Our View:Sherman Smith has the title of offensive coordinator, but Zorn will be calling the plays. Portis should no longer be considered a starting option in traditional formats. Zorn will use backup Ladell Betts' skill as a receiver out of the backfield.
May 8, 2008
Running back Clinton Portis sat out of the Washington Redskins final mini-camp practice due to a strained hip flexor, according to the Washington Times.

Our View:Head coach Jim Zorn said the injury is “minor” and Portis would be ready for the Redskins’ next mini-camp practice on June 2.
April 21, 2008
Over the past few months, Clinton Portis did pretty well for himself. He received a $9.32 million signing bonus when he restructured in March, and the Redskins guaranteed his 2008 and 2009 salaries, the Washington Post reports. The club also locked in a sizable chunk of his 2010 pay.

Our View:So you're saying Portis isn't in danger of being cut, huh? Clinton led the NFL with 325 carries in 2007, and we expect the Redskins to continue leaning heavily on him. Whether his body can take it or not is a big question.
April 3, 2008
The Washington Redskins might begin next season as a run-first team, but head coach Jim Zorn wants to make the offense balanced between running and passing as soon as he can, according to the Washington Post. Zorn has blended in his West Coast passing offense with the running offense of the previous regime. Zorn’s offense emphasizes the passing game, but with quarterback Jason Campbell learning a new scheme, the Redskins will likely feature running back Clinton Portis next season. Portis was a top-5 back in most scoring formats last year, and it appears his star is shining brightly for another solid campaign in 2008.
March 31, 2008
Running back Clinton Portis is excited about the team’s new offense, according to Pro Football Weekly. Portis feels like the spread formations that Jim Zorn plans to use will open up more running lanes inside, similar to what he saw in Denver’s zone-blocking offense. The Redskins coaching staff has plans to make Portis the featured player in the new west-coast offensive scheme in 2008.
March 28, 2008
After studying Clinton Portis on tape during the offseason, Washington Redskins coach Jim Zorn is preparing the seven-year vet for a bigger role in the offense, according to SI.com. Portis, who finished sixth in the league in rushing with 1,262 yards, is spending his offseason training at the team's complex. "We think that he can be a 1,800-yard back this season," assistant head coach/running backs Stump Mitchell said. Despite the implementation of the West Coast offense, the team will keep their blocking schemes intact and believe that continuity will allow Portis to thrive as their feature back. Furthermore, the Redskins are contemplating expanding Portis' role as a receiver after the vet hauled in a career-high 47 passes last season. "We know that he was productive as a receiver last season, but most of his receptions were of the 'check-down' variety," Mitchell said. "We will see how he runs routes during mini-camps and Organized Team Activities and determine if we can make him a bigger part of the passing game. He is a complete player with an unbelievable set of skills and we must find a way to maximize his talent."
February 7, 2008
ProFootballTalk.com reported Thursday afternoon that the private plane of Redskins owner Daniel Snyder was on the way to Scottsdale, Arizona. It’s believed that the goal of the flight is to retrieve Arizona resident Jim Fassel, and bring him back to Washington for introduction as the team’s next head coach. Giants' defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo decided to stay with the Super Bowl winners leaving Fassell as the default winner of the long and drawn out search for Joe Gibbs' replacement.
January 10, 2008
Clinton Portis has a big salary cap number for 2008, but at least one member of the organization believes the club needs to bring him back. "Clinton is a back that this team needs and he should be here," running backs coach Earnest Byner tells the Washington Post. Previous reports placed Portis's cap number at $8.4 million in 2008. The Redskins will likely look to restructure his deal rather than release him and turn to Ladell Betts. However, such a decision could rest on who becomes the new head coach.
