Clinton Portis was present at Washington's mandatory offseason camp on Monday, according to official team blogger Matt Terl.

Our View:Veterans Albert Haynesworth and LaRon Landy were there as well. Portis' work ethic has been questioned in Washington, though it looks like re-uniting with former head coach Mike Shanahan could have a positive effect on the star back's demeanor.

According to NFL.com, aging running back Clinton Portis (concussion) has been cleared to begin offseason activities.

Our View:Portis wasn't cut by the Redskins because of his guaranteed contract, but it would be naive to think that they would move forward with him as their full-time feature back. He'll likely have plenty of competition for his job and even if he wins it, it seems ridiculous to think he could play all 16 games at this point.

Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan has given a strong indication that he sees Clinton Portis as his team's starting back heading into the 2010 season, according to Fox Sports. "He's our running back," Shanahan said. "I don't go back to what happened the last couple years or listen to differences of opinion. I just know what Clinton did for me. I expect him to be in great shape and do everything he can to be the best player. If he does that, I know what type of ability he has. Hopefully, he can help us win."

Our View:Those are some strong words of support from Shanahan, and thus it looks like fantasy owners can continue to view Portis as a clear-cut starter. While it may seem like he's been around forever, Portis would still seem to have a few productive seasons left as long as he can stay healthy, as he is just 28 years old. Portis topped 1,500 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns each of his two seasons with Shanahan in Denver and is still just a year removed from gaining 1,487 yards on the ground in Washington.

Redskins running backs coach Bobby Turner believes Clinton Portis can still be a productive NFL back, according to the Washington Post. "Oh, he definitely has something left," said Turner.

Our View:Portis' future in Washington remains a bit up in the air, though it certainly doesn't hurt to hear comments like that from members of the team's staff. Expect to hear more on Portis' status as the offseason progresses.

In addition to saying that he expects to be back with the Redskins in 2010, Clinton Portis (concussion) noted that he has yet to be medically cleared, the Washington Post reports. Portis expects to be healthy heading into next season.

Our View:It's not known when Portis last had a check-up in order to be cleared, but it's worth noting that he suffered the concussion on November 8 - nearly three months ago. Despite his quotes, his future team and future health remain question marks in our mind.

Clinton Portis "definitely" expects to be back with the Redskins in 2010, according to Rick Maese of the Washington Post.

Our View:After the disaster that was his 2009 season, that didn't seem likely a few weeks ago. Throw in the fact that Washington's new head coach, Mike Shanahan, was the man that traded Portis to Washington, and that Portis has been in a few public disputes with teammates this offseason, and it seemed really unlikely. However, for now, we only have Portis' word.

According to the St. Louis Post Dispatch, the Redskins have hired former Rams head coach Jim Haslett as their new defensive coordinator.

Our View:Haslett spent last season coaching the UFL runner-up Florida Tuskers, so he has to be ecstatic to get back to the NFL. He'll join head coach Mike Shanahan as a fresh face in D.C. and is expected to be running a 3-4 defense. Something that Haslett is familiar with from his days with the Steelers. Looks like the Redskins are going for a full makeover.

Former Redskins running backs coach Stump Mitchell, who is no longer with the team and will serve as the head coach at Southern University next year, took shots at Clinton Portis on Monday, saying that Portis should have worked much harder in his preparation, according to the Washington Post.

Our View:This does not come as good news to Portis, who already has a lot of career carries on his legs and is coming off an injury-riddled season. While it'd certainly come as a shock if Mike Shanahan and the new Redskins' staff parted ways with Portis, he doesn't appear to be a 100 percent lock to maintain his roster spot.

According to the Denver Post, the Redskins and Mike Shanahan have agreed on a deal that will make him the new head coach of the team.

Our View:The deal is expected to be worth about $7 million a year for five years, and he will sign the contract and be introduced on Wednesday. Original reports said he would earn $10 million per, so it appears the Skins got a bit of a bargain. Shanahan will continue to be paid an additional $3.5 million by the Broncos for the next two years as well. Lucky guy.

According to the Washington Post, Clinton Portis will make his final visit to a concussion specialist next week.

Our View:Portis is locked up for next year with the Skins and apparently he feels like he's moved past the concussion issues. He's expected to be ready to start working out to prep for next season and Washington will likely try and get another year out of him as their feature back. Prospective fantasy owners beware.

The Washington Post reports that the Washington Redskins will hire Mike Shannahan to be their head coach within the next few days. The report also notes that the team has to re-interview secondary coach Jerry Gray to satisfy the Rooney Rule.

Our View:That means Jim Zorn will be fired shortly after today's game. The 'Skins have been talking to Shannahan for a few weeks and they hope he will bring some stability to an organization that has seen numerous personnel changes this decade.
