Roy Williams has reached a one-year deal to remain with the Bengals, according to Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Enquirer.

Our View:The formerly elite safety had an injury plagued 2009, and has played in just seven games the past two years, so it's unclear just how effective he will be in 2010. He will not be an IDP option.

Roy Williams' rep stated that he has been talking to the Bengals regarding a new deal, according to their official website.

Our View:The Bengals are not high on keeping Williams though, so he may have to settle for a backup role if he wants to stay in Cincinnati. He still holds up well defending the run, but is a liability in pass coverage.

Re-signing Roy Williams is not a top priority for the Bengals, according to their official team website.

Our View:The team is pleased with Williams' solid play against the run, but noted that you almost need four cornerbacks in today's pass-heavy NFL - and the veteran strong safety is a liability in coverage.

Roy Williams has been placed on injured reserve about battling a forearm injury for most of the season, according to Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Enquirer.

Our View:Williams was effective when he played this season, recording 28 tackles in just four games, but just couldn't stay on the field after hurting his forearm. Chinedum Ndukwe is now the Bengals' permanent starter at strong safety.

Bengals' safety Roy Williams returned to full practice on Wednesday, according to the team's official injury report. Williams is dealing with a forarm injury that has caused him to miss the last three games.

Our View:Williams should be good to go this week, which is excellent news for the Bengals as they prep for the biggest game of their season against the Steelers. He is a nice run-stopper from the secondary, which will be nice to have against Rashard Mendenhall.
