Dolphins' beat writer Omar Kelly is reporting that Carolina defensive end Julius Peppers will play a limited role in Thursday's game due to his broken hand. Peppers played last week and failed to record a tackle.

Our View:It looks like the Panthers will let him play, but they will also have reinforcements ready. Peppers isn't likely to impact the game much this week, so his IDP value will take a hit.

Julius Peppers sat out Monday's practice while dealing with a broken right hand, according to Omar Kelly's (Sun-Sentinel) twitter page.

Our View:Peppers played through the injury in Week 10 against Atlanta, but did not have any tackles or sacks. The Panthers have a short week as they play Miami on Thursday night.

Teammate Jon Beason told reporters that Julius Peppers is playing with a broken right hand, according to the Gaston Gazette.

Our View:Peppers sustained the injury last week against the Saints, and coach John Fox did not disclose that his hand was broken. That could explain why Peppers did not register any tackles or sacks today against Atlanta.

Carolina linebacker Jon Beason told the Charlotte Observer on Thursday that he plans to have a talk with defensive end Julius Peppers about Peppers' play so far this season. Beason said he plans to tell Peppers that he needs more intensity from Peppers and that the defensive end needs to show up on every play.

Our View:Peppers is coming off a monster season in 2008, but he has managed only one sack and ten tackles so far this season. Beason is a great leader in the Panthers' locker-room, so we will see if his talk with Peppers light a fire under the former Tar Heel.

Updating an earlier report, the Panthers and Julius Peppers' agent both tried to reach a long-term deal with the elite defensive end prior to today's deadline, according to the Charlotte Observer. His agent Carl Carey said, "Both sides tried. Julius is looking forward to the season."

Our View:The Panthers will have three options with Peppers for the 2010 offseason. The club can ink him to a long-term contract, franchise him again with a one-year tender of more than $20MM, or let him become an unrestricted free agent and lose him without any compensation from another team.
