Matt Maiocco of the Santa Rosa Press-Democrat suggested that Nate Clements is not a lock to start for the 49ers next season.

Our View:Head coach Mike Singletary expects the former star cornerback to return, but will have to fight to keep his starting job. The 30-year-old vet missed the final nine games of the regular season with a shoulder injury.

Head coach Mike Singletary stated that he wants Nate Clements to remain with the 49ers for the 2010 season, according to Matt Maiocco's (Santa Rosa Press-Democrat) twitter page.

Our View:This is good news for Clements, who missed the last nine games of the season with a shoulder injury. He turned 30 in December as well.

Nate Clements has been ruled out for Week 17 as he continues to rehab from a shoulder injury, according to Matt Maiocco of the Santa Rosa Press Democrat.

Our View:This means he will have missed San Francisco's final nine games of the season. At age 30, he shouldn't have too much IDP value in 2010.

Nate Clements has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Lions, according to NFL.com.

Our View:Clements will be missing his eighth straight game with a shoulder injury. His absence at cornerback has been a key reason why San Francisco is ranked near the cellar of the NFL in pass defense.

Nate Clements has been ruled out for Monday night's game against the Cardinals, according to the 49ers' official website.

Our View:Clements will be missing his sixth straight game with his shoulder injury. He is San Francisco's best cornerback, and will be missed while trying to slow down the Cardinals' high-powered passing attack.
