Week 5 inactives: K Lawrence Tynes, WR Taye Biddle, CB Terrell Thomas, RB Danny Ware, CB Sam Madison, LB Jonathan Goff, OT Adam Koets, DE Jerome McDougle.

Our View:John Carney will continue to serve as the kicker. Mario Manningham is available at receiver, but the rookie may not have much of a role.

Lawrence Tynes has been kicking all week, but coach Tom Coughlin has yet to make a decision as to whether he will be active this weekend, according to the NY Post. His knee is not fully healed, as he's experienced some swelling after his workouts. "But I didn't have any pain associated with it, so that's good," Tynes said. "I feel like I can play. I feel I can give 100 percent. I don't have any limitations. I'm sick of watching."

Our View:The Post speculates that the team will probably go with John Carney one more week just to be safe. Carney would be the safer play for fantasy owners, as he's nailed all nine of his field-goal attempts so far.

It looks like Lawrence Tynes is still not close to returning to the Giants. After every workout, Tynes' left knee swells up, according to the AP.

Our View:With Tynes still on the mend, John Carney will continue the place kicking duties.

Giants inactives: K Lawrence Tynes, CB Terrell Thomas, CB R.W. McQuarters, RB Danny Ware, LB Jonathan Goff, T Adam Koets, WR Mario Manningham, DE Jerome McDougle.

Our View:None of the players on this week's inactive list are fantasy relevant. John Carney continues to start in place of Tynes, and has been a solid option through the first two weeks of the season.

Kicker Lawrence Tynes is improving as he rehabs a sprained left knee. "He is advancing and he will do more work this week and hopefully he is continuing to make progress," head coach Tom Coughlin offers the team's official web site. John Carney has been kicking in place of Tynes. Coughlin says that Tynes is close to being able to kick 40-50 balls per day.

Our View:In typical Coughlin fashion, he didn't give way any added information here. The Giants are on the bye in Week 4, and we continue to view Week 5 as a likely return date for Tynes.
September 14, 2008
Lawrence Tynes, CB Terrell Thomas, CB R.W. McQuarters, RB Danny Ware, LB Jonathan Goff, T Adam Koets, DE Dave Tollefson and WR Mario Manningham are the Giants' inactives for Week 2.

Our View:John Carney will fill in for Tynes again and is a good play against St. Louis.
September 6, 2008
Lawrence Tynes indicated that he may not return until Week 5 against Seattle, according to the NY Post. Tynes tested his injured left knee Friday for the first time in a month, attempting 10 field goals. He noted he needs to get up to 40 or 50 a day before he tries kickoffs and even thinks about playing.

Our View:Fantasy owners could count on John Carney handling the kicking duties for the Giants until Tynes returns.

Giants kicker Lawrence Tynes is likely going to be out Week 1 of the regular season as he recovers from knee surgery, according to the Newark Star-Ledger.

Our View:For the most part, kickers are a dime a dozen in fantasy leagues, so losing Tynes is no great shakes. John Carney will be the kicker for New York until Tynes is healthy.

Lawrence Tynes has no structural damage in his left knee, but is still unlikely to be ready to play in Week 1, according to the Star-Ledger. Tynes suffered damage to the meniscus cartilage when he slipped on a wet field earlier this month during training camp.

Our View:Since Tynes is expected to miss a couple of games at most, the Giants likely will keep him on the active roster and be forced to carry another kicker for a few weeks, potentially Josh Huston, who is currently on the roster and filling in for Tynes in preseason action.
August 22, 2008
Lawrence Tynes' exploratory surgery on his left knee revealed no structural damage, according to NorthJersey.com. Josh Huston will handle the kicking duties Saturday night against the Jets and also could kick in the final preseason game next Thursday against New England as Tynes recovers.

Our View:Tynes will continue to treat the soreness in his knee through a rehab program. This report lessens the need for the Giants to add another veteran kicker. If healthy, Tynes would be a good bet to top 100 points for the fifth straight season in his career.
August 21, 2008
Giants kicker Lawrence Tynes will undergo exploratory left knee surgery on Friday morning to determine what is wrong with his plant leg, according to the Newark Star-Ledger.

Our View:Coughlin declined to give specifics on Tynes after practice, most likely because he's waiting for the information from the surgery to give him a firm timetable for Tynes' recovery.
August 16, 2008
Giants kicker Lawrence Tynes has missed practice lately due to an injured plant leg, but he should be back sometime this week, according to Sporting News Today.

Our View:Those of you who drafted Tynes - in the final round, hopefully - need not be worried. He will be fine, and ready to contribute.

Lawrence Tynes will remain the kicker for the Giants for the next five years after agreeing to a 5-year, $7 million deal on Monday according to the NY Star Ledger. The deal is not yet complete, they are still working on some language, but it appears to be almost finished. Tynes put up 109 points last season and was 8-for-8 on 40+ yard kicks though he faltered a bit on kicks from 30-39 yards (5-for-8). Still, Tynes converted 11 of his last 12 kicks during the regular season, and the team was willing to pay for that.
