Player Notes
August 7, 2008
Running back LaMont Jordan carried the ball 19 times, gaining 76 yards while scoring a touchdown for New England in their preseason contest against Baltimore.

Our View:He had the most carries on the team by far, and really took advantage of them. He won't displace Laurence Maroney, but he could sneak some of his carries away from him.
July 27, 2008
The Patriots mentioned that LaMont Jordan is going to be used as a change-of-pace to Laurence Maroney, as was his role with the Jets behind Curtis Martin, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View:It appears that Jordan will cut into the playing time of Sammy Morris (who is recovering from a sternum-clavicle separation) and may also reduce the number of targets for Kevin Faulk in the passing game. Jordan could be worth a look in the late rounds of fantasy drafts, and as a "handcuff" for Maroney, especially when you consider Maroney's track record with durability.

In a move to shock the foundation of your fantasy world, we are learning the New England Patriots have signed recently-released rusher LaMont Jordan , according to ProFootballTalk.

Our View:PFT is passing along a verbal report from Adam Schefter of the NFL Network, stating Jordan was also pursued by the Saints (clearly worried about he health of Deuce McAllister). Jordan’s deal with the Patriots is a one-year contract. No financial terms have been reported.
July 25, 2008
LaMont Jordan has been given his release by the Oakland Raiders, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Our View:Jordan was once a promising back, but that didn't last long. He is now a free agent and can sign with any team, and his value in fantasy football will be determined by where he winds up.
July 24, 2008
ProFootballTalk.com indicates that LaMont Jordan will be released or traded by the Raiders in the very near future.

Our View:The Lions may pick him up if released, or possibly the Saints. Both clubs previously displayed interest in him.
July 24, 2008
LaMont Jordan is not in Raiders camp according to the San Francisco Chronicle. Coach Kiffin said the situation is being handled by Raiders owner Al Davis and agent Alvin Keels.

Our View:The team actually asked him to not come to camp as they are trying to trade him and want to keep him completely healthy. Originally, Jordan was going to report anyway, but he is not currently at camp.
July 23, 2008
Earlier today we reported the Oakland Raiders had asked rusher LaMont Jordan to avoid reporting for training camp despite lacking the right to do so. The thought is simple: They are trying to trade Jordan as their rushing corps is loaded with depth, and they wish to keep him healthy. Now, exercising rights afforded to him by the Players Union and their agreement with the league, Jordan will be ignoring the desires of the Raiders and intends to report for camp, acccording to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Our View:According to the current collective bargaining agreement, an NFL player under contract must be allowed to report and participate in all offseason and training camp meetings and workouts. Alvin Keels, who represents the embattled running back, said he told the Raiders on Wednesday they have just over 24 hours to either release his client, trade him or permit him to report as scheduled. Being released is the most likely desire for Jordan, thus allowing him to sign with another team and get to work melding into that new scenario. For now, the Raiders hold the cards and are working for their best interests. Jordan is trying to swing as much power as he can for his own destiny (hard to blame him for that), and this move makes the most sense to get that done.
July 23, 2008
LaMont Jordan was told to avoid reporting to Raiders camp, according to the Associated Press. However, the team has no authority to request such a move as they must let Jordan participate, cut him or trade him.

Our View:The Raiders are never boring are they? The Raiders clearly have no desire to pay Jordan almost five million dollars as his contract calls for, and with Darren McFadden now in the fold, they also don't need him on the field. Therefore, it would appear that Jordan will be released at some point in the near future since his contract makes it improbable that he could be traded.
July 21, 2008
The Lions are not interested in trading for Raiders' running back LaMont Jordan, according to MLive.com.

Our View:The Lions said they are not interested in dealing for Jordan, but it would be a different matter if he was released by the Raiders, which is what the Lions could be waiting for.
July 9, 2008
LaMont Jordan recently visited the Lions, according to ESPN. It was a pre-trade visit arranged by the Raiders and Lions. Oakland has been trying to deal Jordan in the past month. But the market was slow and the visit to Detroit was the only real movement in a possible trade.

Our View:If Oakland cannot find a trading partner, Jordan could go to training camp with the team. Other interested teams included New Orleans, Chicago, and New England.
July 8, 2008
LaMont Jordan is reportedly on the Patriots' radar, according to ESPN. The Bears and Saints were previously believed to be interested in Jordan as well.

Our View:Jordan would see little action in New England behind starter Laurence Maroney and pass-catching specialist Kevin Faulk, as well as Sammy Morris.
July 4, 2008
LaMont Jordan has not been able to find a team willing to trade for him, according to Pro Football Weekly.

Our View:Jordan clearly won't be in Oakland next season, and his fantasy value remains minimal. He has been a disappointment since he signed with the Raiders after coming over from the Jets with so much promise.
June 26, 2008
LaMont Jordan is currently being shopped by the Oakland Raiders, reports Adam Schefter of NFL.com. His contract calls for him to make $4.7 million this season.

Our View:The Raiders are not going to pay a guy that much money when it's possible he could be the fourth string back behind Darren McFadden, Justin Fargas and Michael Bush. Jordan has been a disappointment to both the Raiders and fantasy owners, and that probably won't change, no matter where he winds up.
June 5, 2008
The Raiders plan to move forward without LaMont Jordan and he has received permission to seek a trade with another team, according to the Contra Costa Times. His agent (Alvin Keels) stated, "We have not had any success at this point in doing so because there are many moving pieces to such a trade. However, with new developments going on around the league, maybe something can be done in the coming days."

Our View:Jordan only averaged 3.8 yards per carry in 2007, and the team is now deep at the position with prized rookie Darren McFadden, sparkplug Justin Fargas, and Michael Bush, who is displaying strong hands and receiving skills, and has further made Jordan expendable.
June 3, 2008
LaMont Jordan with coach Lane Kiffin Tuesday morning and was told he wouldn't practice while the team explores the possibility of trading him, according to the Contra Costa Times.

Our View:With Darren McFadden, Justin Fargas and Michael Bush on the roster, the Raiders have no need for Jordan. However, no one is going to trade for him unless Jordan agrees to re-work his contract, and that isn't likely to happen. The Raiders should just cut him loose, but stubborn Al Davis apparently still thinks he'll find a taker.
June 3, 2008
LaMont Jordan plans to attend the Raiders' upcoming mandatory minicamp, according to the SF Chronicle. Jordan avoided all voluntary workouts up to this point, and many wondered if he would be released by now. Jordan's agent said, "He plans to be there. As of right now, LaMont is a Raider and will be in Oakland for all mandatory minicamps."

Our View:Prized rookie Darren McFadden sits atop the Raiders' depth chart, with Justin Fargas firmly planted as the primary backup. Michael Bush is the likely candidate for the number three spot. Owner Al Davis reportedly wants to keep Jordan, so a rival (like Denver) can't scoop him up. The team is still hoping to trade him, but his value won't likely be very high, especially since he only averaged 3.8 yards per carry in 2007. If he remains in Oakland, he would hold no fantasy value as a number four running back.
April 30, 2008
The Raiders are reportedly hanging on to running back LaMont Jordan because some in the organization think they can still get trade value for a guy who ran for 1,025 yards in 2005, according to the SF Chronicle.

Our View:Right now, teams are more likely to wait for Jordan to be released so they can sign him at a low price. Jordan only averaged 3.8 yards over 144 carries in 2007.
April 24, 2008
LaMont Jordan may or may not be a part of the Raiders plans this season depending on how the draft plays out, this according to the Contra Costa Times. “LaMont does have a very high contract, and a big number coming into this,” HC Lane Kiffin said. “So we have to look at what happens in the draft, look at what else is going on and make a decision.”

Our View:The team already has Justin Fargas, Dominic Rhodes and Michael Bush in the fold, and if the rumors are true that they might select Darren McFadden, Jordan would likely be on his way out of town. He still might be regardless.
February 14, 2008
LaMont Jordan and Dominic Rhodes are unlikely to return to the Oakland Raiders in 2008 due to the recent signing of RB Justin Fargas to a long-term deal, according to ContraCostaTimes.com. Nothing is set in concrete, but it appears that Oakland will cut ties with Jordan and Rhodes. Jordan has been an often-injured malcontent during his three seasons with the Raiders, and Rhodes never got his sea legs under him after serving a four-game suspension last season.
