Laveranues Coles has returned to practice today for the first time since last Tuesday, according to the NY Daily News. Coles missed six practices, including the annual Green and White scrimmage, due to a leg injury.

Our View:If he can manage to stay healthy, he would serve as a solid number two fantasy receiver this season.

Laveranues Coles sat out Wednesday's practice with an undisclosed injury, according to Newsday. Coles, 30, missed five games last season.

Our View:Coles always seems to come up with nagging injuries and this one is probably no exception. The 5-foot-11 wideout got some more guaranteed money in March and hopefully that will not equate to him slacking off. The missed time will allow Jerricho Cotchery to get more chemistry going with the Jets quarterbacks.

The New York Jets have guaranteed the $11 million remaining on the final two years of receiver Laveranues Coles' contract, according to ESPN. Coles had been seeking a contract extension, but guaranteeing the remaining two years is an apparent compromise between the team and the receiver. Coles had been critical of the Jets earlier in the offseason for spending money on players from outside and not taking care of players already on the team. Coles has been a team captain and is one of the most respected leaders in the Jets' locker room. He appeared in 12 games last season, catching 55 passes for 646 yards with six touchdowns.

The New York Jets and receiver Laveranues Coles have agreed to terms on a contract extension, according to the New York Post. Terms of the deal have not been disclosed, but it’s believed the Jets added two or three more years to his contract. If true, this would keep Coles with New York through the 2012 season - virtually ensuring he will finish his career with the organization. For the Jets, re-signing Coles prevents a repeat of the problems during last year’s training camp, when another high-profile veteran team leader, guard Pete Kendall, groused about his contract and was ultimately traded to the Redskins. And now the Jets, who spent a lot of money at the beginning of this month to acquire veterans from other teams, have spent some money at the end of the month to keep one of their own.

The New York Jets are negotiating a new contract for wide receiver Laveranues Coles, and barring complications, it should be finalized by Friday, according to the Daily News. Coles has two years, $11 million remaining on his current deal, and he's looking for a long-term extension. He was prepared to miss the entire offseason program, not showing up until training camp, unless he received a new contract. Coles' decision to report to the off-season conditioning program Monday, after skipping the first week to protest his current contract, was a strong indication that the two sides were moving toward an agreement. Stay tuned.
