Shaun Alexander has been released by the Redskins, according to the Washington Post.

Our View:Alexander only averaged 2.2 yards per carry, and the team decided to let him go. He held no fantasy value while buried on the depth chart behind Clinton Portis and Ladell Betts.

Running back Shaun Alexander practiced with the Redskins first-team offense on Thursday, as Clinton Portis sat out, and Ladell Betts was a limited participant, according to the Washington Times.

Our View:It's a good bet that Alexander gets some carries on Sunday against the Giants, but likely not enough to make a difference in fantasy leagues. Even if he, theoretically, were to get 20 carries, he'd still be a poor option against New York.

Shaun Alexander should see action this weekend against Dallas with Clinton Portis "50-50" to play with his sprained knee, according to the Dallas Morning News.

Our View:This is encouraging news, but Alexander is only averaging 2.3 yards over 10 carries and would not be a recommended fantasy option, especially since Dallas will be well-rested while coming off a bye.

Shaun Alexander will be active and play in Sunday's game against Cleveland, according to the Washington Post. Zorn noted that Alexander may not be the first guy in to spell Clinton Portis, and said, "I don't count Rock Cartwright out of this. He could be the first guy in." Zorn went on to call Alexander a "tremendous back."

Our View:Alexander looks to benefit from a fresh start in Washington, but will not hold much fantasy value as long as Clinton Portis remains intact. Ladell Betts will remain involved in the ground attack when he returns from his sprained knee as well. FYI, Alexander is trying to retain his jersey No. 37 from injured safety Reed Doughty.

As expected, Shaun Alexander has inked a one-year deal with the Redskins, according to NFL.com.

Our View:He will be reunited with Redskins' coach Jim Zorn, whom he worked with in Seattle, but his fantasy value will be limited while serving behind Clinton Portis, and eventually Ladell Betts when he returns in a few weeks from injury.
