Pennington will undergo an exam that is expected to determine whether he will need surgery again and whether it could be an arthroscopic procedure, which is less invasive.

An initial diagnosis of Chad Pennington is that he has a tear in his rotator cuff and will miss the remainder of the season, according to ESPN's Chris Mortensen. Pennington will have his MRI examined Tuesday by Dr. James Andrews, who performed the previous surgery on that same joint in the offseason. Andrews said there is a chance further testing could show only torn scar tissue. With Jay Fiedler sidelined by an injury, Brooks Bollinger will start Week 4 for the Jets.
