The Atlanta Falcons have been in serious negotiations with kicker Jason Elam during the past two days, according to the Denver Post. Two NFL sources said the Falcons' offer was more lucrative than what the Broncos had last presented, but that Elam was going to give his team of 15 years an attempt to sweeten its proposal. Elam ranks fifth all time with 395 career field goals and sixth with 1,786 points. And for all the concern about Elam's age and declining leg strength, he finished the 2007 season with 15 consecutive field goals and four walk-off, game-winning kicks.

Free-agent kicker Jason Elam is expected to negotiate contract terms with the Atlanta Falcons today, according to the Denver Post. The Denver Broncos hope to resume talks with kicker Jason Elam now that he is back home from his vacation in Israel, according to the Denver Post. The two sides have general parameters in place for a multiyear deal, but there is a serious hang-up regarding guaranteed money, particularly for the 2008 season. Elam has been the Broncos' kicker since 1993, making him the team's longest-tenured player. He finished his 15th season with 15 consecutive field goals, although the Broncos have enough concern about the range of a 38-year-old kicker to want contractual protection.
