According to ProFootballTalk.com, Fernando Bryant has decided to retire from the NFL. Bryant played five season with the Jaguars and four with the Lions, and finished up his career with the Patriots in the 2008 preseason before being cut and signing with the Steelers.

Our View:Neither Bryant nor his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, gave a reason for his retirement, but it seems likely that he was informed by the Steelers that he was not in their future plans. Bryant started 16 games in a season three times in his career, including his rookie season, and was seen as a decent corner for much of his career. We wish him the best in his future endeavors.

TSN reports that the Steelers' inactives for Sunday's game against the Chargers are QB Dennis Dixon, CB Fernando Bryant, S Anthony Smith, LB Bruce Davis, G Jason Capizzi, T Tony Hills, DE Orpheus Roye, and DT Scott Paxson.

Our View:The Steelers' starting units are mostly healthy following their bye-week.

The Steelers signed veteran cornerback Fernando Bryant to a one-year contract, according to Scout.com. Financial terms were not disclosed. The team released linebacker Donovan Woods to make room on the roster.

Our View:Bryant was added to provide depth at cornerback as they have been thinned out by injuries, but he won't likely merit fantasy attention for IDP leagues.

Patriots head coach Bill Belichick requires cornerbacks who will display toughness and willingness to tackle, something that Fernando Bryant did not do, which is why the team cut him, according to Pro Football Weekly.

Our View:Bryant is a solid corner with good cover skills, so his release is seen as a message to other players to play physical.
