The Eagles have signed kicker Sam Swank (Wake Forest), according to their official team website. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Our View:Swank has a strong leg, but his accuracy was compromised in 2008 by a groin injury. He will compete with David Akers for a job. Akers only made 33-of-40 field goal attempts last season.
January 4, 2009
David Akers hit all four of his field goal attempts, including a 51-yarder, as the Eagles defeated the Vikings 26-14 on Sunday.

Our View:Akers was only 33-for-40 on the season and 2-for-5 from his attempts of 50 yards or longer. He likely benefited from kicking in the dome on Sunday.
November 2, 2008
David Akers had a big day for the Eagles, making four field goals from distances of 24, 39, 39, and 42 in addition to two extra points.

Our View:Akers has been consistent on short attempts this year, and kept it up in Seattle.
October 6, 2008
David Akers is having issues from long-range as he has missed nine straight field goal attempts from 45 or more yards, according to the Philadelphia Daily News. Coach Andy Reid still has faith in the veteran kicker, though. Reid stated, "David's going to make a lot more of those than he's going to miss. Down the stretch here, he'll be fine."

Our View:It remains to be determined why Akers is missing his longer attempts, which have all sailed to the right. He will remain the Eagles' kicker for the time being, but fantasy owners should have a solid backup for insurance.
September 30, 2008
Eagles coach Andy Reid says kicker David Akers' job is not in jeopardy and he still has confidence in him, despite Akers' two misses Sunday, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. "He needs to make those kicks, but I do feel that way ... I think the leg strength [is still there]. You can see it on his kickoffs. He's kicking the ball off as well as he ever has."

Our View:Akers' misses on Sunday were his first two misses of the season. He has made 8-of-10 field goals, and 12-of-12 extra points, and is a solid option for fantasy owners in the least important position.
