Hines Ward will not be participating in the Steelers' minicamp while recovering from a knee injury, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

Our View:The 33-year-old vet will gradually work his way into shape, and expects to be 100 percent recovered in time for training camp.

Hines Ward has signed a 4-year contract extension with the Steelers for $22 million, according to ESPN.

Our View:Not only does this deal open up some cap room for the club, it also will allow Ward to finish his career having never worn another uniform other than the black and yellow of the Steelers.

Hines Ward does not intend to hold out of training camp while entering the final year of his contract with the Steelers, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Ward said, "I want to be a Steeler. I do not want to put on another uniform. I am late in the game now to worry about it. You look at all the previous players who went on and played for other places. I learned a lot from Jerome Bettis, what he did. I want to go down in Steelers history to be one of the better wideouts to wear the black and gold."

Our View:The future Hall of Famer did not practice today while recovering from surgery to repair a torn left rotator cuff in the offseason. Ward noted that he will slowly work himself into things.

The Steelers are yet to talk to Hines Ward regarding a contract extension, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. He is entering the final year of his current contract.

Our View:Ward has been one of the best receivers in franchise history, but is 33 and coming off shoulder surgery. He has 800 career receptions and is 220 receiving yards away from 10,000.

Hines Ward underwent "clean up" surgery on his shoulder this week, but is not expected to need surgery on his sprained MCL, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Our View:His knee is expected to heal fine on its own, and he should be healthy for the 2009 campaign with the defending champs.
