November 17, 2008
Houston running back Ahman Green ran for just 17 yards on Sunday against the Colts, but it was enough to push him past 9,000 rushing yards for his career, reports the Houston Chronicle.

Our View:Green is now one of seven active players to reach the milestone. He has 255 yards and three scores on the ground this year and is not much of an option for fantasy owners.
November 16, 2008
Ahman Green only gained 17 yards on nine carries, but two of them resulted in touchdowns in the Week 11 loss to Indianapolis.

Our View:Green, who has posted nine or fewer carries in each of the last three games, is nothing more than mediocre flex option in basic scoring leagues.
November 9, 2008
Running back Ahman Green (thigh) is active for the Week 10 game against the Ravens.

Our View:Green will serve as the backup to Steve Slaton in a very tough matchup. Slaton remains the one worth using in fantasy leagues, but fantasy owners shouldn't be surprised if Green steals a decent chunk of the work.
November 5, 2008
Ahman Green was limited in practice on Wednesday due to a sore thigh, according to the team's website.

Our View:Green is improving but his status for Week 10 is uncertain. Steve Slaton figures to handle most of the carries even once the veteran returns.
November 2, 2008
Texans inactives: RB Ahman Green, WR André Davis, LB Xavier Adibi, G Kasey Studdard, TE Mark Bruener, DT Frank Okam, DE N.D. Kalu, T Rashad Butler.

Our View:Steve Slaton will handle the brunt of the rushing workload with Ahman Green (thigh) inactive. Also, Kevin Walker (knee) and Zach Diles (hamstring) are active and will start.
October 31, 2008
Ahman Green was unable to practice Thursday due to his groin and hamstring ailments, according to the Houston Chronicle.

Our View:His status for Sunday's game at Minnesota is in doubt. Ryan Moats has been taking Green's reps in practice. Even if Green plays, he should not be considered for fantasy lineups against a dominant Vikings' run defense.
October 30, 2008
Texans running back Ahman Green did not practice on Wednesday, and if he is going to play Sunday, would like to practice by Friday, according to the Houston Chronicle.

Our View:Green was dealing with a sore groin and hamstring. If he practices by Friday, he's likely to play. Otherwise, his status is up in the air.
October 28, 2008
Ahman Green is nursing a cramp in his leg, but is expected to be fine, according to the Houston Chronicle. Coach Gary Kubiak said, "I think he’ll be day-to-day, but I expect him to be OK."

Our View:This is encouraging news for Green, but should be left on your fantasy bench if he plays this weekend while working as a backup behind rookie Steve Slaton against a dominant Vikings' run defense.
October 27, 2008
Ahman Green indicated that he left Sunday's game with a cramp in his left leg, according to the Houston Chronicle. He said, "Other than that, I’m good. I just have to get treatment and get ready for Minnesota."

Our View:This is good news for Green, but he won't merit fantasy consideration while working as a backup behind rookie Steve Slaton against an imposing Vikings' run defense.
October 26, 2008
The Texans' team website reports Ahman Green left Sunday's game with a hamstring injury.

Our View:There is no word on the oft-injured running back's status for next week.
October 26, 2008
Running back Ahman Green tweaked his left leg during the fourth quarter of the Week 8 game against the Bengals. He was dragged down by a horse collar tackle and came up gimpy.

Our View:We're not certain if it's his hamstring or his groin, but Green didn't appear to be too bad on the sidelines. Even a minor injury to Green's legs can turn into a big pain, though.
October 16, 2008
Ahman Green was a full participant in Thursday's practice according to the Texans' website. He is dealing with a foot injury.

Our View:Green is the No. 2 running back on Houston's depth chart and will likely 10 carries or less per game unless something happens to Steve Slaton.
October 3, 2008
Texans running back Ahman Green will play Week 5 against the Colts, according to HoustonTexans.com. Green will be the backup to rookie runner Steve Slaton.

Our View:Coach Gary Kubiak made it clear that Green will only play when Slaton wants out for a breather, so fantasy owners with Slaton should not worry about Green taking his carries.
October 2, 2008
Houston running back Ahman Green may be ready to play Week 5 when the Texans take on the Colts, according to the Houston Chronicle. "He’s working with the offense, so it’s my hope that he’s ready to play with Steve," said Houston coach Gary Kubiak.

Our View:Even if Green does play, he will be the backup to Steve Slaton, and should not take many carries away from the rookie. He has limited fantasy value because of his frustrating inability to stay healthy.
September 28, 2008
Texans inactives: DB Eugene Wilson, RB Ahman Green, DB Brandon Harrison, G Kasey Studdard, OT Rashad Butler, TE Mark Bruener, DT Tim Bulman, DE ND Kalu.

Our View:Given his past injury history, it's not a big surprise to see Green on this list, again. Regardless, rookie Steve Slaton has overtaken Green as the starter in Houston.
September 25, 2008
During the Texans practice on Thursday, Ahman Green was limited due to a nagging ankle injury, according to NFL.com.

Our View:It is still unsure when Green will be back on the field but rookie Steve Slaton picked up the slack last week with over 100 yards rushing.
September 24, 2008
Ahman Green, who is nursing a sprained ankle, is expected to participate in portions of practice this week, according to the Houston Chronicle.

Our View:This is encouraging news, but coach Gary Kubiak remains unsure when Green will be ready to resume playing. Steve Slaton topped 100 rushing yards in his first career start againsr a solid Titans' defense last weekend, and Green would have to fight the rookie for playing time when he returns.
September 21, 2008
Week 3 inactives: CB Eugene Wilson, RB Ahman Green, LB Xavier Adibi, G Kasey Studdard, OT Rashad Butler, TE Mark Bruener, DT Earl Cochran, and DT Travis Johnson

Our View:The Texans ruled out Green, Bruener, and Johnson earlier in the week. Steve Slaton is set to start at running back.
September 19, 2008
Coach Gary Kubiak indicated that Ahman Green will not play this week due to his sore ankle, according to the Houston Chronicle.

Our View:Steve Slaton is expected to start against the Titans, with Chris Taylor lending support as the primary backup. Kubiak did not speculate when Green may be ready to return.
September 18, 2008
Ahman Green remains out of action and will be doubtful for Week 3, according to the Houston Chronicle. He is dealing with a sore ankle and coach Gary Kubiak said, "Ahman still didn’t practice Wednesday, and I’d say he’s very doubtful for this week. If we played today, it would be Steve Slaton and Chris Taylor. And Darius Walker would be up."

Our View:Slaton looks to start against the Titans, and Green shouldn't be considered for that match-up even if cleared to play.
September 17, 2008
Ahman Green did not practice on Wednesday while still nursing a sore ankle according to the Texans' website.

Our View:Obviously, you don't want Green in your lineup this weekend as they head to Tennessee but he's probably worthy of a roster spot still. At some point this season, he will carry the ball for the Texans unless Slaton has a few breakout games.
September 12, 2008
NFL.com reports that Ahman Green is doubtful for Week 2. Rookie running back Steve Slaton figures to be the starter in Houston.

Our View:Obviously, you don't want Green in your lineup this weekend but he's probably worthy of a roster spot still. At some point this season, he will carry the ball for the Texans unless Slaton has a few breakout games.
September 10, 2008
Ahman Green was walking around the Texans facilities with a walking boot for his injured ankle. The Texans have ruled out Green for at least Week 2, according to the Houston Chronicle.

Our View:It is a new year and another injury for the Texans running back. For fantasy owners who drafted Green knew this was a very good possibility.
September 8, 2008
Houston running back Ahman Green will need to undergo tests on the ankle he sprained on Sunday against the Steelers, according to the Houston Chronicle.

Our View:The news that Green got hurt is among the least shocking of the weekend. Fantasy owners should know by now not to trust him.
September 7, 2008
Running back Ahman Green (hamstring) is active and is expected to start against the Steelers in Week 1, NFL.com reports.

Our View:This news shouldn't surprise anyone. Green has been listed as the starter all week. Fantasy owners should avoid the veteran in this tough matchup. We expect to see a good dose of Steve Slaton and possibly some Chris Taylor, too.
September 5, 2008
Ahman Green is going to get up to 15 carries in Sunday's battle with the Steelers, according to the Texans' official website. He had been dealing with a pulled hamstring but was able to fully practice for a few weeks and will get the start.

Our View:Green is going to serve in a rotation with rookie Steve Slaton and Chris Taylor, and the Texans plan to pound the ball early in an attempt to set up manageable first-down conversions.
September 3, 2008
Ahman Green is not listed on the Texans' Week 1 injury report, according to houstontexans.com .

Our View:Ahman Green, Chris Taylor and Steve Slaton will all receive playing time week 1, but Green should get the first crack at Pittsburgh's unrelenting run defense.
September 2, 2008
Coach Gary Kubiak reiterated that Ahman Green is ready to play in Week 1, according to the Houston Chronicle. Kubiak said, "Ahman’s ready to go. He’s been practicing for two weeks."

Our View:It is good news that he will be able to play, but he was ailing for most of the preseason, and isn't expected to handle a heavy workload initially.
August 31, 2008
Texans running back Ahman Green will not carry a heavy load during Week 1, as he and fellow backs Steve Slaton and Chris Taylor will share ball-carrying duties, according to the Houston Chronicle.

Our View:Green has, of course, been injured for much of the preseason. He will need some time before being able to increase the number of carries he gets, which is something to keep in mind the first week of fantasy season.
August 28, 2008
There were rumors abound that Ahman Green might be released before the season would begin. But the Texans and Green came to an agreement to restructure his current deal. According to the Houston Chronicle Green's salary will be reduced from $3.8 million to $1.8 million.

Our View:Green is listed as the No. 1 running back on the Texans depth chart but he will be a very risky fantasy back due to his inability to stay healthy.
August 25, 2008
Ahman Green remains sidelined by his groin ailment, according to the Houston Chronicle.

Our View:Chris Brown had an opportunity to pass Green on the depth chart as the No. 1 running back, but a sore back spoiled his bid. Green is expected to be ready for Week 1, but remains a risky fantasy prospect due to his poor track record with durability.
August 24, 2008
There is a possibility that Ahman Green could be cut from the Houston Texans unless he can prove that he is healthy for the first game of the season, according to Pro Football Weekly.

Our View:Green has not seen any action since suffering a groin injury, and he will likely miss the team's final preseason game with the malady. Either way, he's an awfully risky pick in any fantasy format.
August 19, 2008
Texans running back Ahman Green will probably be out for the remainder of the preseason, according to the Houston Chronicle. He is dealing with an injury to his groin.

Our View:Draft Green at your own risk. Not only is he an injury machine, Houston also has Chris Brown, Steve Slaton, Chris Taylor and Darius Walker in the backfield. There has also been talk that Green could be released should he not heal quickly enough. The likelihood of Green making a big impact on fantasy teams is remote.
August 18, 2008
The Houston Chronicle suggests that Ahman Green could be released by the Texans if he doesn't recover from his pulled groin in time to participate in the preseason.

Our View:The team added Marcell Shipp, and he joins a crowded backfield with Chris Brown, Darius Walker, Chris Taylor, rookie Steve Slaton, and Green. The team could afford to let Green go, who would remain an injury risk if kept.
August 10, 2008
Houston running back Ahman Green, after being injured on his first carry of the preseason, is listed as day-to-day with a pulled groin, according to HoustonTexans.com.

Our View:Green will sit out for a while, but he should be good to go when the regular season starts. Draft him if you dare.
August 9, 2008
Well that didn't take long. Houston rusher Ahman Green was injured on his first carry of his first preseason game of 2008, according to the Houston Chronicle.

Our View:On the Texans' first play of tonight's preseason opener against Denver, Green took a short pass from Matt Schaub for five yards, then limped off the field with a groin injury. We have no word on the severity of the injury, but if you remember last season (when Green was hurt in the preseason and rarely contributed for the remainder of the year), it's not good. We'll keep you posted.
August 5, 2008
Ahman Green will start when the Texans face the Broncos on Saturday. "He’s had a great offseason and having a good camp," head coach Gary Kubiak tells the team's official web site. "He needs to play. His stages need to pick up as we go through preseason."

Our View:Can they put Ahman in bubble wrap? It's no surprise that Green is the starter, and we expect him to have that role come Week 1. The question, of course, is how long his oft-injured body will hold up.
May 31, 2008
Ahman Green has returned to practice Friday after missing the previous two days due to a case of food poisoning, according to the Houston Chronicle.

Our View:Other than the food poisoning, Green has been healthy so far during off-season practice sessions. He has a history of nagging knee problems, but is expected to be 100% at the start of training camp. If he remains healthy, he would likely serve as the Texans' starting running back, but a committee approach is expected, with former member of the Titans Chris Brown a potential candidate for the top backup role.
May 29, 2008
Ahman Green missed the Houston Texans workout Wednesday with a possible case of food poisoning, according to the Houston Chronicle. "He's sick," coach Gary Kubiak said. "He was really sick this morning, and he came in and we took him to the doctor. We think he may have food poisoning. But he's fine."

Our View:Green has been healthy thus far during offseason workouts, but has a well-documented history of injury issues, mostly with his problematic knees. He cuurently sits on top of the Houston running back depth chart, but the Texans are expected to employ a RBBC scenario with Chris Brown and rookie Steve Slaton figuring prominently in the mix.
May 10, 2008
Ahman Green is fully healthy for minicamp, according to the Houston Chronicle. He suffered a knee injury in Week 1 last season, and was limited to only six games. The Texans now have a logjam at the position as Domanick Williams is also healthy, and the team added Chris Brown, formerly of the Titans. Darius Walker looked good as a rookie, namely at banging out tough yards and as a receiver out of the backfield, and he will be in the mix for playing time as well. On top of that, the team drafted West Virginia rusher Steve Slaton in the third round.

Our View:Green racked up 260 rushing yards over his six injury plagued games in 2007, with 14 receptions for another 123 yards. He is the acting starter and will get his chance to stay on top of the depth chart, but going by his poor track record with durability, another back will emerge in Houston in 2008. Who that may be remains to be seen. Chris Brown ran their zone scheme (compliments of new assistant head coach Alex Gibbs) while at Colorado and that would give him a leg up on the other backs for the number two spot, but the race is still going to be wide open.
April 13, 2008
The Houston Chronicle confirms the Texans are looking for a left tackle, cornerback, pass-rushing end, and running back in the upcoming draft.

Our View:It's no secret that the Texans need a long-term solution, unless Darius Walker or Chris Taylor turns into a surprise contributor. Ahman Green remains the starter, but Gary Kubiak will add some young legs behind him, possibly as soon as the first round.
March 26, 2008
The Houston Texans are likely to draft a running back on the second day of the 2008 NFL draft, according to the Houston Chronicle. The organization currently lists its running back depth chart like this: Ahman Green, Chris Brown, Darius Walker and Chris Taylor. The Texans are looking to draft a later round back that fits the one-cut-and-go zone-blocking scheme that Gary Kubiak and Alex Gibbs prefer to utilize. It sounds like the powers that be in Houston are putting a lot of faith in the health of Green and Brown, two players who haven proven to be injury prone the past few seasons.
