The Seahawks, who surprisingly fired head coach Jim Mora today after just one season, are said to be in heavy discussions with USC head coach Pete Carroll, according to ESPN's Chris Mortensen.

Our View:Carroll's name is one of the hottest commodities on the market to fill NFL head coaching vacancies every offseason, and this year will be no different. There seems to be some mutual interest with Seattle and Carroll, but it remains to be seen what will actually happen with this situation.

The Seahawks have fired head coach Jim Mora, according to Fox Sports' Jay Glazer.

Our View:The Seahawks were not very good in 2009, but still, this firing comes as a surprise, and you would have thought that Mora would have gotten at least one more year to try and right the ship. With no coach and no general manager, the Seahawks organization has its work cut out for them this offseason.

The Seattle Times is also reporting that Matt Hasselbeck will most likely be returning to the Seahawks in 2010.

Our View:The chances of him reuniniting with his former coach Mike Holmgren in Cleveland next season appear to be less than 50-50 at the moment. If Seattle's new general manager decides to fire coach Jim Mora, however, all bets are off.

The Associated Press reports that Seahawks coach Jim Mora expects Matt Hasselbeck to be the team's quarterback for the 2010 season.

Our View:This synopsis doesn't hold much water, as Mora's future with the organization is extremely uncertain. If the Seahawks decide to draft a QB early in the draft, expect Hasselbeck to become trade bait.

Matt Hasselbeck's return to Seattle in 2010 is not a sure thing, according to the Seattle Times.

Our View:Seattle's offense wore down as the season went on, and with the team highly unlikely to be competitive in 2010, now could be a good time to cut the cord with the aging Hasselbeck and begin grooming his successor. That being said, the chances of him staying are probably around 60-to-70 percent.

Matt Hasselbeck expects to remain in Seattle for the 2010 campaign, according to the Associated Press.

Our View:Hasselbeck only had a 75.1 efficiency rating in 2009, and threw a career-worst 17 interceptions. The Seahawks are yet to state if they are committed to employing the 34-year-old vet as their starting quarterback for next season.
January 3, 2010
Matt Hasselbeck was 15-of-30 for 175 yards, a touchdown and an interception in a Week 17 loss to the Titans.

Our View:Hasselbeck started out hot this season with seven TDs in his first three games, but quickly fizzled and only recorded more than one score in a game two other times the rest of the year. He finished the season with 17 TDs and 17 picks.
