The Tacoma News Tribune is reporting that Matt Hasselbeck's back is fully healed and he is in fine form. The Seahawks' success for the upcoming season could depend on the health of their quarterback.

Our View:Hasselbeck needs to be healthy all season if the Seahawks are going to return to prominence. His back looks fine now, but we will have to wait and see how it looks after he takes a pounding for a few weeks in a row.

General manager Tim Ruskell doesn't envision the Seahawks trading down in the upcoming draft. His team holds the fourth overall pick. "Those of us at the top don't sense that we're going down," Ruskell tells the Tacoma News Tribune. "The phone's not ringing off the hook for that." Ruskell does not believe there are any franchise-changing players at the top of the draft. He adds that team officials have identified their top-four players, but they may not agree on the order of those four guys.

Our View:Ruskell doesn't sound overly enamored with the choices available at No. 4, and we can only imagine how depressed he'll sound come rounds four, five, six, and seven. Ruskell hasn't picked higher than No. 26 since replacing Bob Whitsett in 2005.

Matt Hasselbeck is expected to practice with the Seahawks Tuesday for the first time since early December, according to the Associated Press.

Our View:He missed nine games last season due to a bulging disk in his back. If healthy, Hasselbeck should be the Seahawks' starting quarterback in 2009.
January 15, 2009
Matt Hasselbeck hopes to be fully recovered from his back injury by the end of January, according to the Post-Intelligencer. The injury limited him to seven games last season.

Our View:There had been rumors that the Seahawks might release him this offseason, but it's hard to imagine who they would replace him with. We expect Hasselbeck to be back under center in Seattle next season.
January 9, 2009
Matt Hasselbeck is expected to return as the Seahawks' starting quarterback in 2009, according to the News Tribune.

Our View:He battled a back ailment through most of the 2008 campaign, but the club is not considering trading him and are content with him returning as their starter. They like Seneca Wallace as their primary backup as well.
