Vinny Testaverde plans to retire after Sunday's game at Tampa Bay. Perhaps this will give a reason for the Panthers to give Testaverde a few snaps on the way out; right now, he's scheduled to be the backup to Matt Moore on game day.

Vinny Testaverde ’s sore back is improving. He told the Charlotte Observer that it was “a little better” than Wednesday and attributed the problem to an Achilles tendon injury. “Walking in a boot kind of throws your back out of whack after a while.”

Panthers quarterback Vinny Testaverde participated fully in Thursday’s practice, head coach John Fox told the team’s website. He was able to practice fully on Wednesday, too. It looks like Testaverde is going to be able to go this weekend against the 49ers. While he isn’t a fantasy option, it does increase the chances Steve Smith can be a factor.

The Panthers will use quarterback Vinny Testaverde as their starter this Sunday ifhe’s healthy enough to play, according to the Charlotte Observer. Head coach John Fox made the announcement during his weekly press conference. "I think it would be fair to say, though, that if [Testaverde] was healthy, he would be the guy," Fox said. It remains unclear if David Carr or Matt Moore would get the start if Vinny was unable to go, but it would be a disaster either way. Testaverde playing gives Steve Smith his best chance to have a good game.

Testaverde took most of the snaps in practice on Wednesday, and at this point is expected to start. Rookie Matt Moore has taken some snaps with the first team as well, in case Testaverde’s sore Achilles’ tendon flares up.

Panthers head coach John Fox has named Vinny Testaverde as the starter for Sunday’s game against the Colts. “This is not an indictment on David Carr by any stretch,” Fox told the Charlotte Observer. “I don’t believe he’s 100 percent (healthy). He’s healthy enough to play, but I don’t think he’s 100 percent.” Carr has been nursing a back injury.

The Panthers have signed quarterback Vinny Testaverde to a contract that will be finalized if he passes a physical Wednesday morning, according to the Charlotte Observer. As long as the doctors don't test for osteoporosis, Testaverde should be fine. David Carr is locked in as the Panthers starter, but Vinny will be his primary backup once he gets up to speed on the playbook.

With Matt Leinart sidelined because of a broken collarbone, the Cardinals are looking to add a veteran quarterback to provide depth behind Kurt Warner. The Arizona Republic reports the team will bring in Vinny Testaverde and Tim Rattay for tryouts. The Cardinals do need a veteran backup to Kurt Warner, who isn’t exactly the paragon of health. However, to put things in perspective, Testaverde was born nine days before John F. Kennedy was assassinated.
