Player Notes
December 21, 2008
Isaac Bruce became the fifth player in NFL history to reach 1,000 career receptions. He ended Sunday's game with seven catches for 61 yards and one touchdown. The touchdown accounted for his 1,000th reception.

Our View:Bruce's reception also occurred at St. Louis, where he has spent most of his career. The veteran has been fairly consistent recently with 60 or more receiving yards in five straight games.
December 21, 2008
Isaac Bruce is set to return to St. Louis today, according to the St. Louis Post-Gazette. Bruce commented, "It'll be emotional. I've been in that stadium before where former Rams players have come back. Kurt Warner, Marshall Faulk. And just seeing the reception they were given, it gave me chills all over."

Our View:Bruce has been the most consistent 49ers' receiver this season with 52 receptions for 766 yards and six scores, and is worth consideration today while battling his former team, who field the NFL's 24th ranked pass defense.
December 14, 2008
Wide receiver Isaac Bruce reeled in seven receptions for 71 yards in the Week 15 loss to Miami.

Our View:In the past four games, Bruce has compiled 26 receptions for 333 yards and two touchdowns. The Reverand should be a solid No. 3 fantasy receiver in Week 16 with the soft Rams' defense on the agenda.
November 30, 2008
Wide receiver Isaac Bruce caught five passes for 67 yards and a touchdown in the Week 13 win over the Bills. He was responsible for the game's only score.

Our View:Bruce is up to six scores this year, his highest total since 2004. He has hooked up with Shaun Hill in two straight games and could be an okay play throughout December.
November 23, 2008
Isaac Bruce caught eight balls for 125 yards and one touchdown in the Week 12 loss to Dallas.

Our View:In the previous three games, Bruce had compiled eight receptions for 72 yards. And the touchdown was his first since Week 5. In other words, start him at your own risk.
November 23, 2008
Isaac Bruce exited the game against Dallas in the first quarter after taking a shot in the head.

Our View:Bruce has reentered the game after receiving stiches to close a wound on the back of his head. Thus far, the 15-year veteran has compiled four receptions for 81 yards.
October 5, 2008
Isaac Bruce scored two touchdowns in a 49ers loss and the scores were his third and fourth of 2008.

Our View:The veteran continues to excel with his new team. Bruce has 275 yards receiving to go along with his four touchdowns.
September 28, 2008
Wide receiver Isaac Bruce caught five passes for 54 yards and a touchdown in the Week 4 loss to the Saints.

Our View:That's three straight quality outings for the veteran. He looks like the clear No. 2 option in this offense behind Frank Gore.
September 21, 2008
Isaac Bruce caught his first touchdown of the season as a 49er on Sunday in the first quarter against the Detroit Lions. He had just two catches for 19 yards.

Our View:With the maturation of J.T. O'Sullivan and the success of Mike Martz's offense through three weeks, Bruce is worth a depth slot in deep leagues. Last week he had 153 yards on four catches and he was held catchless in Week 1. Inconsistency is clearly an issue a this point, but Bruce should be able to find his rhythm in San Francisco. If he does, he can be a very effective fantasy receiver.
September 14, 2008
San Francisco receiver Isaac Bruce had four catches for 153 yards in his team's 33-30 win over Seattle.

Our View:Bruce did not have a catch Week 1, but that was remedied on Sunday. Consider him for depth on fantasy squads only.
September 11, 2008
In Week 1 Isaac Bruce was held to no catches in his 49ers debut. Offensive coordinator Mike Martz said he wasn't worried about the goose egg that Bruce put up in Week 1, according to the Mercury News. Martz said, "Isaac and Vernon (Davis) and all the other guys, they're all good players and they'll have their opportunities."

Our View:In Mike Martz's offense receivers tend to have big years and if you are in a deep league Bruce might be an option.
September 9, 2008
Coach Mike Nolan commented on Isaac Bruce after he was held without a catch in his 49ers' debut against Arizona, according to the SF Chronicle. Nolan said, "What I have seen out of Isaac thus far in training camp and preseason, he's going to be fine. I think the thing that hurt us most in the second half was we only had 15 plays. Had we had more plays, I think Isaac would have had the ball."

Our View:The Cardinals double-teamed Bruce for most of the game, as well as the other outside receiver, which was mostly Bryant Johnson. The 49ers should get Vernon Davis more involved in the middle, which will allow Bruce more breathing room to operate. Arnaz Battle did not play well, and a better effort from him as the slot guy should also free up Bruce a bit more.
September 7, 2008
Isaac Bruce didn't record a catch in the 49ers Week 1 loss to the Cardinals. The veteran receiver wasn't even targeted in the game.

Our View:It's too early to completely depart Bruce from whatever fantasy value he was believed to have in the Mike Martz offense. It is, however, worth noting that Bruce hasn't scored a touchdown in over two years on natural grass. All of his touchdowns have come at the E.J. Dome in that span.
August 8, 2008
Isaac Bruce may not play tonight in the 49ers' preseason opener against Oakland, according to the SF Chronicle.

Our View:He isn't hurt, and the 49ers just want him well-rested for the regular season, and already know what he can do.
July 30, 2008
The 49ers set a priority to keep Isaac Bruce as fresh and as spry as possible, so the club hopes to limit his workouts and snaps through training camp, according to the SF Chronicle. He was let loose a bit more Tuesday during a full-pads 11-on-11 session, and he showed that he still has favorable downfield speed, and slick moves at 35 years old.

Our View:Bruce is off to a good start and should hold solid fantasy value as a late-round pick while re-united with offensive guru Mike Martz.
May 28, 2008
It's too early to judge the San Francisco 49ers’ new receiving corps, but the early indication is that it's the best of the Mike Nolan era, according to the Sporting News. Isaac Bruce set the tone for his younger teammates with a businesslike mini-camp, while Bryant Johnson also looked good. The best competition will be for the No. 3 spot between Arnaz Battle, Ashley Lelie and Jason Hill.

Our View:The 49ers finished dead last in most of the important offensive categories last year, but there is renewed hope with the hiring of famed offensive coordinator Mike Martz. In early offseason mock drafts, both Bruce and Johnson are being selected in the 11th round range, which makes them solid value picks with nice upside in Martz’s scheme.
March 13, 2008
Isaac Bruce will not wear number 80 in 2008, according to The Mercury News. "Isaac Bruce will not be wearing No. 80," team spokesman Aaron Salkin said. "We are leaving it in honor of Jerry Rice's legacy." Jersey numbers will be assigned next week, but no sacrilege will take place. There will be no blasphemy when Bruce gets dressed for his first practice.
March 9, 2008
The San Francisco Chronicle reports that Jerry Rice has given the go-ahead for Isaac Bruce to wear his No. 80 with the 49ers. The club has not issued No. 80 since Rice's final season with 49ers in 2000. Number 80 is not officially retired but the team has treated it as such. "I have always respected Isaac Bruce," Rice said. "I don't know what is going to happen in that scenario but if it was left up to me I would say, 'Yeah.' For Steve Largent to do what he did for me he showed me a side of him where I just feel like I have to do the same thing. He set the standard. It would be left up to Isaac and myself to sit down and talk or if the 49ers decide to do something like that it is OK with me." Bruce wore No. 80 with the Rams for 14 seasons.
March 6, 2008
Isaac Bruce is looking forward to helping the 49ers franchise this season, especially while reunited with offensive guru Mike Martz, as reported by insidebayarea.com. Bruce noted that he has no idea who the starting quarterback will be this season, but was not complaining and has faith that the 49ers are moving in the right direction. Bruce ended his career with the Rams with 942 receptions, which ranks 6th all-time.
March 4, 2008
Isaac Bruce is projected to start for the 49ers on the other side of wide receiver Darrell Jackson, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. This makes sense given Bruce’s familiarity with new offensive coordinator Mike Martz’s scheme. The frontrunner for the third receiver role will be Arnaz Battle, who will likely compete with Ashley Lelie for the role. Battle has an edge because he is a prolific run blocker.
February 29, 2008
Isaac Bruce, who met with 49er officials Friday, has agreed to play his next two seasons in San Francisco, this according to the NFL Network. Bruce will be reunited with offensive coordinator Mike Martz and will be a big part of the offense. His fantasy value should hold steady in formats that start three receivers, and as of this signing he's logically the team's top wide out option for quarterback Alex Smith. The terms of the agreement have yet to be released.
February 29, 2008
Isaac Bruce is heading to San Francisco for a meeting with the organization, according to FOX Sports. San Francisco recently hired offensive coordinator Mike Martz, who Bruce is familiar with from their time together in St. Louis. The Rams released Bruce earlier this week to avoid paying him a $2 million roster bonus. Martz has been known to bring aboard players familiar with his scheme, so we will keep a close eye on this story.
February 28, 2008
Bernie Miklasz of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that Isaac Bruce has been released today. The team reportedly made a contract offer for 2008, but Bruce turned it down. As a result his contract was terminated.
February 28, 2008
The St. Louis Rams are currently weighing options on wide receiver Isaac Bruce, who is due a $2 million roster bonus on Friday, according to FanNation. The article cites league sources that suggest Bruce could be released, or asked to take a cut in pay. Bruce is held in high regard in St. Louis, so we expect the transaction to be handled in a classy manner. Bruce, who is a 14-year veteran, has compiled 942 receptions, 14,109 yards and 84 touchdowns as a member of the Rams both in Los Angeles and St. Louis.
