Isaac Bruce may not play tonight in the 49ers' preseason opener against Oakland, according to the SF Chronicle.

Our View:He isn't hurt, and the 49ers just want him well-rested for the regular season, and already know what he can do.

The 49ers set a priority to keep Isaac Bruce as fresh and as spry as possible, so the club hopes to limit his workouts and snaps through training camp, according to the SF Chronicle. He was let loose a bit more Tuesday during a full-pads 11-on-11 session, and he showed that he still has favorable downfield speed, and slick moves at 35 years old.

Our View:Bruce is off to a good start and should hold solid fantasy value as a late-round pick while re-united with offensive guru Mike Martz.

It's too early to judge the San Francisco 49ers’ new receiving corps, but the early indication is that it's the best of the Mike Nolan era, according to the Sporting News. Isaac Bruce set the tone for his younger teammates with a businesslike mini-camp, while Bryant Johnson also looked good. The best competition will be for the No. 3 spot between Arnaz Battle, Ashley Lelie and Jason Hill.

Our View:The 49ers finished dead last in most of the important offensive categories last year, but there is renewed hope with the hiring of famed offensive coordinator Mike Martz. In early offseason mock drafts, both Bruce and Johnson are being selected in the 11th round range, which makes them solid value picks with nice upside in Martz’s scheme.

Isaac Bruce will not wear number 80 in 2008, according to The Mercury News. "Isaac Bruce will not be wearing No. 80," team spokesman Aaron Salkin said. "We are leaving it in honor of Jerry Rice's legacy." Jersey numbers will be assigned next week, but no sacrilege will take place. There will be no blasphemy when Bruce gets dressed for his first practice.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports that Jerry Rice has given the go-ahead for Isaac Bruce to wear his No. 80 with the 49ers. The club has not issued No. 80 since Rice's final season with 49ers in 2000. Number 80 is not officially retired but the team has treated it as such. "I have always respected Isaac Bruce," Rice said. "I don't know what is going to happen in that scenario but if it was left up to me I would say, 'Yeah.' For Steve Largent to do what he did for me he showed me a side of him where I just feel like I have to do the same thing. He set the standard. It would be left up to Isaac and myself to sit down and talk or if the 49ers decide to do something like that it is OK with me." Bruce wore No. 80 with the Rams for 14 seasons.

Isaac Bruce is looking forward to helping the 49ers franchise this season, especially while reunited with offensive guru Mike Martz, as reported by insidebayarea.com. Bruce noted that he has no idea who the starting quarterback will be this season, but was not complaining and has faith that the 49ers are moving in the right direction. Bruce ended his career with the Rams with 942 receptions, which ranks 6th all-time.

Isaac Bruce is projected to start for the 49ers on the other side of wide receiver Darrell Jackson, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. This makes sense given Bruce’s familiarity with new offensive coordinator Mike Martz’s scheme. The frontrunner for the third receiver role will be Arnaz Battle, who will likely compete with Ashley Lelie for the role. Battle has an edge because he is a prolific run blocker.

Isaac Bruce, who met with 49er officials Friday, has agreed to play his next two seasons in San Francisco, this according to the NFL Network. Bruce will be reunited with offensive coordinator Mike Martz and will be a big part of the offense. His fantasy value should hold steady in formats that start three receivers, and as of this signing he's logically the team's top wide out option for quarterback Alex Smith. The terms of the agreement have yet to be released.

Isaac Bruce is heading to San Francisco for a meeting with the organization, according to FOX Sports. San Francisco recently hired offensive coordinator Mike Martz, who Bruce is familiar with from their time together in St. Louis. The Rams released Bruce earlier this week to avoid paying him a $2 million roster bonus. Martz has been known to bring aboard players familiar with his scheme, so we will keep a close eye on this story.

Bernie Miklasz of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that Isaac Bruce has been released today. The team reportedly made a contract offer for 2008, but Bruce turned it down. As a result his contract was terminated.

The St. Louis Rams are currently weighing options on wide receiver Isaac Bruce, who is due a $2 million roster bonus on Friday, according to FanNation. The article cites league sources that suggest Bruce could be released, or asked to take a cut in pay. Bruce is held in high regard in St. Louis, so we expect the transaction to be handled in a classy manner. Bruce, who is a 14-year veteran, has compiled 942 receptions, 14,109 yards and 84 touchdowns as a member of the Rams both in Los Angeles and St. Louis.
