Player Notes
January 3, 2010
Isaac Bruce is active for the 49ers against the Rams on Sunday.

Our View:He did not practice most of the week and has not played for several weeks. However, several 49ers lobbied the coaching staff for Bruce to appear against his former team in what may be his last game of his career.

Isaac Bruce did not participate in 49ers practice on Friday, and doesn't seem likely to play in what could be his final NFL game on Sunday, according to the Santa Rosa Press Democrat.

Our View:The 49ers have said they don't want to "disrespect" Bruce by having him make a token appearance in the probable last game of his game, which will coincidentally be played in the city he spent the bulk of his hall-of-fame career in. Utterly classless.

The Press Democrat reports that 49ers offensive coordinator Jimmy Raye insists that Isaac Bruce isn't prepared to play on Sunday in St. Louis and does not want to "disrespect" Bruce by putting him in for a token appearance.

Our View:A number of 49ers are lobbying for Bruce to make an appearance in what is a meaningless game. Bruce has not suited up for several weeks and will likely retire at the end of the season.

The St. Louis Globe Democrat reports that starter Josh Morgan asked 49ers coach Mike Singletary to let Isaac Bruce start over him this weekend against Bruce's former team, the Rams.

Our View:Bruce has not played in several weeks now, but we wouldn't be surprised to see him play at least the first series back in St. Louis. He has said there is a 75 percent chance he will retire at the end of the season.
December 30, 2009
Isaac Bruce says he is likely to retire after the season is completed, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Our View:He puts the chances of him calling it quits at "75 percent." Were that to be the case, he would finish his career second in NFL history in receiving yards (15,208), and fifth in receptions (1,024). He could of course add to those numbers this weekend. Fittingly, San Francisco's season finale will take place in St. Louis, the place Bruce spent the first 13 seasons of his 15-year career. After being inactive in many recent weeks, 49ers coach Mike Singletary has already said he will be active this Sunday.
