Player Notes
November 9, 2008
Gus Frerotte completed 15-of-28 passes for 151 yards with two touchdowns against three interceptions in the Week 10 victory over Green Bay.

Our View:Don't look now, but Frerotte has thrown multiple touchdown passes in each of his last four starts. On the down side, he has thrown 11 interceptions during this timeframe. However, if your league doesn't subract points for those errant tosses, then Frerotte is a serviceable starter in favorable passing matchups.
November 2, 2008
Gus Frerotte threw three scoring strikes with only 182 yards in Sunday's 28-21 win over the Texans.

Our View:Frerotte has now thrown five touchdown passes over his last two games, and is worth targeting if you need help at the position, namely for depth.
October 19, 2008
Gus Frerotte threw for 295 yards and two touchdowns, but he was also intercepted four times in Minnesota's 48-41 loss to the Bears.

Our View:One of the startling thins about this was that Chicago was without their top three defensive backs - Nathan Vasher, Charles Tillman and Danieal Manning - who were each out with injury.
October 12, 2008
Quarterback Gus Frerrote completed 18-of-33 passes for 296 yards and one touchdown against one interception in the Week 6 win over Detroit.

Our View:Frerotte isn't setting the fantasy world on fire, but he has passed for 222 or more yards in each of the past three weeks. If the Vikings wide receiver corps can get healthy, Frerotte could be a serviceable fantasy backup as the season progresses.
October 7, 2008
Gus Frerotte took a beating in the Vikings Monday night game against the Saints and on Tuesday the veteran said he was feeling fine. Frerotte told the Minneapolis Star Tribune, "I was just dizzy. Some birds flying around my head."

Our View:Even though Frerotte's number are not worth much of a fantasy look, he is doing a good job leading the Vikings offense.
October 6, 2008
Gus Frerotte threw a touchdown and no interceptions while completing 19 of 36 passes for 222 yards in the Vikings victory over the Saints.

Our View:Frerotte was mighty successful given that the Vikings vaunted ground attack totaled just 44 net yards rushing on the night. He continues to do a much better job leading the offense than Tarvaris Jackson ever has.
October 3, 2008
With his two top wide receivers (Bernard Berrian and Sidney Rice) and his tight end listed as questionable this week, it could be a rough night for Gus Frerotte on Monday in New Orleans.

Our View:The Vikings do not have much depth at the position. Berrian is more likely to play than Rice.
September 29, 2008
Gus Frerotte's left hand injury is considered minor, according to the Pioneer Press.

Our View:There was significant bleeding, but he only needed two stitches to close his cut, and he is expected to be fine. He should be ready to start in Week 5 at New Orleans on Monday Night Football.
September 28, 2008
Gus Frerotte received a couple stiches on his left, non-throwing hand after leaving Sunday's game early, the Associated Press reports.

Our View:It sounds like he will be fine to return in Week 5.
September 28, 2008
Quarterback Gus Frerotte headed to the locker room late in the fourth quarter of the Week 4 game against the Titans. Tarvaris Jackson entered the game. Frerotte's injury is unknown.

Our View:Frerotte appeared to take a shot to the, um, groin area earlier in the quarter, but he stayed in. We'll update his status when more is known.
September 21, 2008
Gus Frerotte completed 16-of-28 passes for 204 yards with one touchdown against one interception in the Week 3 win over Carolina.

Our View:Nothing to get overly excited about from a fantasy perspective, but the Vikings were in dire need of a win after beginning the season 0-2. Frerotte threw a couple of nice deep balls to Bernard Berrian and Visanthe Shiacoe, a dimension that was missing with Tarvaris Jackson running the offense. When Sidney Rice returns to the lineup, the Vikings passing game could pick up some steam.
September 17, 2008
Updating an earlier report, Gus Frerotte will remain the Vikings' starting quarterback for the remainder of the season and will not be temporarily replacing Tarvaris Jackson, according to John Clayton of ESPN.

Our View:The Vikings' receiving corps should benefit with the more experienced Frerotte directing the offense, but Frerotte should only be considered as a fantasy backup.
September 17, 2008
The Vikings will start Gus Frerotte at quarterback Sunday, according to ESPN. He is replacing Tarvaris Jackson, who holds a QB Rating of just 64.8 through two games.

Our View:Frerotte is certainly a better passer than Jackson, so this will help out Minny's receiving corps. As far as Frerotte's fantasy value, he should be considered only as a backup in standard leagues.

To follow the story as it moves along, the Minnesota Vikings have made the signing of veteran QB Gus Frerotte official, according to ProFootballTalk.com. The Vikes had reached an agreement in principal with Frerotte before the NFL Owners Meetings but wanted to wait until after those meetings concluded to finalize the deal. Frerotte has played for a multitude of teams, and while many of us remember him for the hysterical decision to head butt a wall after a TD (a move the resulted in concussion and time missed to the resulting injury), he is a savvy mind and a strong arm that will serve as a valuable backup and mentor for starter Tarvaris Jackson.
April 2, 2008
The Minnesota Vikings have reached an agreement in principle with former St. Louis Rams’ backup quarterback Gus Frerotte, according to ESPN. The deal will be for more than one year, but it won't be completed until after the NFL owners meeting, which concludes Wednesday in West Palm Beach, Fla. The two sides have reached an agreement on the numbers, but it will take a few days to go over the language of the contract. Acquiring Frerotte will end any trade discussions with the Texans over backup quarterback Sage Rosenfels.
April 1, 2008
With the Houston Texans apparently intent on keeping quarterback Sage Rosenfels, indications are strong this morning that the Minnesota Vikings are nearing an agreement with free agent quarterback Gus Frerotte, according to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune. Frerotte, who also has visited the Green Bay Packers, could agree to terms in the next few days. He would serve as a veteran backup for starter Tarvaris Jackson.
March 19, 2008
Gus Frerotte visited the Packers on Tuesday and will meet with the Vikings later this week, the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reports. Green Bay and Minneapolis are close, but an old guy like Gus only drives 40 mph.
February 28, 2008
Rams officials confirmed Thursday that backup quarterback Gus Frerotte was released on Thursday, this according to the St. Louis Post Dispatch. The report notes that there are other cuts forthcoming. The names could include prominent players like Isaac Bruce, Jerome Carter and Trevor Johnson.
February 28, 2008
The St. Louis Rams plan to release backup quarterback Gus Frerotte today, according to Yahoo! Sports. “I’m a little surprised, but that’s the way it goes in this business,” Frerotte said. “I’ve played 14 years, and that’s a long time. I’m looking forward to spending time with my family.” The team could turn to Brock Berlin, to fill the backup role, but are more likely to acquire a veteran during free agency.
