Gus Frerotte declined to comment on the Yahoo! Sports report that he is dealing with two transverse fractures in his back, according to the Star Tribune. When asked about his back, Frerotte replied, "I think you guys got to ask Coach on that one."

Our View:Frerotte did state that his back feels better and believes he is healthy enough to play, but Tarvaris Jackson remains slated to start Sunday's game against the Giants.

Gus Frerotte's MRI on his back reportedly revealed two transverse process fractures, according to Michael Silver of Yahoo! Sports.

Our View:That explains why Tarvaris Jackson is slated to start in Week 17, despite a dismal performance last weekend against the Falcons.

Gus Frerotte wants to play and commented on Brad Childress' decision to go with Tarvaris Jackson in Week 16 against Atlanta, according to Scout.com. Frerotte said, "It’s up to Coach. Obviously I’m not happy about it. I mean, anybody that’s competitive wants to be the guy that’s out there. I put a lot of hard work and a lot of effort into this. But it’s Coach’s."

Our View:Jackson fired four touchdown passes in last Sunday's upset win over the Cardinals, and the team needs to evaluate whether he can be their franchise starter at quarterback, while the 37-year-old Frerotte is nearing the end of his career. The Vikings' offense should be in good hands with Jackson, based on his Week 15 performance.

The Minneapolis Star Tribune reports that Gus Frerotte split reps in practice with quarterback Tarvaris Jackson.

Our View:Though it is widely expected that Jackson will get the starting nod this week, Brad Childress has not officially named a starter.
