Coach Herm Edwards said yesterday that Trent Green will be the Chiefs' starting quarterback next season, according to the KC Star. "Why wouldn’t he be?" Edwards asked Tuesday. "I don’t think we need to get in a panic after one season of a guy basically being knocked out for half of the year and then having to come back and play. ... Yeah, he doesn’t have the stats he had last year. Well, how can he? He missed a lot of games."

November 7, 2006
Coach Herm Edwards admitted on Tuesday that he may stick with Damon Huard as his starting quarterback even after Trent Green returns from his concussion, according to ESPN.com. "If we were the other way, 3-5, we wouldn't be talking about this," Edwards said. "We'd be saying, 'Yeah, when is he coming back?' But now, we're winning, and it's 'What are you going to do when he comes back?' That's OK. That's a good problem to have." Green is expected to be ready to return on Nov. 19 against the Raiders.

Not unexpectedly, coach Herm Edwards wasn't quite as certain about Green playing that soon, but he did say Green would be in uniform and workout before tomorrow's game. "It lets him get the adrenaline of going out there and going through warm-ups with the players and that whole deal," said Edwards, who added that Green wouldn't play under any circumstances tomorrow.

That does not mean he’s been cleared yet to play, but it’s a big step, and I, for one, know he’s anxious to get started." Green, who is recovering from a concussion, will take part in 7-on-7 and 9-on-9 drills next week, though Peterson left open the possibility of Green playing in Week 8.
