The Broncos have had some talks with John Carney's representative this week, though nothing appears imminent, according to the Rocky Mountain News. The club is looking for a kicker for the first time in 15 years, now that Jason Elam has left for Atlanta.

As expected, the Chiefs signed John Carney on Tuesday and released Dave Rayner. Carney is not a good fantasy option.

September 12, 2007
John Carney signed a one-year contract with the Jaguars Tuesday, giving the club a replacement for injured placekicker Josh Scobee, the AP reports. The 43-year-old Carney was one of five kickers who worked out for the Jaguars earlier in the day.

John Carney asked for and was granted his release by the Saints on Thursday, according to the Sports Network. "John wanted to explore other opportunities that are available in the NFL," said Saints general manager Mickey Loomis. "This is something we were sensitive to because he has been an important part of the Saints and the community during his time in New Orleans. We will always have a lot of respect for John as a person and a player." Carney asked for his release after the Saints acquired Olindo Mare from Miami.

John Carney will continue to work on placement kicks even as the Saints have signed Billy Cundiff, according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune. Cundiff will become the team's kickoff specialist.
