Perkins undergoes surgery Boston, MA (Sports Network) - Boston Celtics center Kendrick Perkins underwent
arthroscopic left shoulder surgery Wednesday.
Perkins was hurt during the NBA Finals against the Los Angeles Lakers. The
exact nature of the procedure was not disclosed and no timetable has been
given for his return.
The injury, which occurred in Game 4 of the Finals, was initially described as
a strained left shoulder. He was hurt while trying to block a shot by the
Lakers' Lamar Odom, then sat out Game 5 and returned for the clinching Game 6.
Paul Pierce plans to undergo an MRI on his ailing right knee this week, according to the Boston Herald. He said, "I’ve still got some soreness in it, so hopefully it’s nothing major where I’ll require surgery. I’m just going to get an MRI while I’m in town. I doubt if I need any surgery just based on it’s getting better and better."
Our View:Pierce doesn't expect to need surgery, but the MRI will decide for sure.
The Boston Herald reports that the Celtics have told first round pick J.R. Giddens to go home and not participate in minicamp.
Our View:Giddens entered a pretty rough situation. The Celtics have very little space but want to do what they can to retain James Posey or try to add other veterans.
James Posey's agent noted that he had talks with the Hornets regarding his client, according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune.
Our View:The Hornets covet a solid shooting guard and Posey is one of the top available free agents. Posey is believed to be seeking a four or five-year contract worth around $5.8 million per year.
