"I won't burn him out," coach Mike Woodson said, "but we'll give him some minutes and I'll let him kind of tell me where he is when he's out there. He had the cast removed last week, and he's been taking part in limited practices the past two days. It's possible he could take part in a preseason game or two, which means he could also be ready for the start of the regular season.

Speedy Claxton broke a bone in his left hand during a workout Monday making his questionable for the start of the season, according to the AP. The injury, a fractured left middle finger, will keep Claxton out of action for five to six weeks. The recently signed Claxton was expected to open the season as Atlanta’s starting point guard.

The Hawks have reportedly reached an agreement with free agent Speedy Claxton, according to the AP. Under free-agency rules, he cannot officially sign a contract until July 12. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported on its Web site Monday that the deal is believed to be for four years and worth about $25 million.
