November 20, 2008
Celtics forward Paul Pierce made just two of the nine shots he took while scoring nine points, grabbing four rebounds and dishing three assists in the team's 98-80 win over Detroit.

Our View:Pierce has been having an excellent season, so fantasy owners should simply chalk this performance up to a difficult evening.
November 16, 2008
Paul Pierce came up big again for the Celtics, scoring 28 to lead Boston to an overtime win against the Bucks. He also posted seven rebounds, six assists, a steal and a block.

Our View:Pierce may not be among the scoring leaders in the league, but he provides stats across the board nearly every night.
November 12, 2008
The AP reports that Paul Pierce hit a fallaway jumper with 0.5 seconds left, scoring 34 points in all on Wednesday night as the Boston Celtics overcame a 16-point second-quarter deficit to beat Atlanta 103-102 and send the Hawks to their first loss of the season.

Our View:In the past two games, Pierce has looked every bit like the best player in the world that he proclaimed himself to be over the summer. Unfortunately for his fantasy owners, not every game is this close nor does it require mammoth production from the Celtics' captain.
November 10, 2008
The AP reports that Paul Pierce scored 22 of his 36 points in the fourth quarter to lead the Boston Celtics to a 94-87 comeback win over the Toronto Raptors on Monday night. He chipped in nine rebounds, four assists and four steals in the MVP-like performance.

Our View:Pierce showed his MVP side tonight in a very impressive finale. It's unfortunate for fantasy owners that Boston is too good to demand this performance from him every night.
November 7, 2008
Paul Pierce had a double-double for Boston in their win over the Bucks Friday night. He ended up tallying 18 points, 10 rebounds, and seven assists.

Our View:An average night for Pierce is as much as fantasy owners can hope for. Points and rebounds have been a staple for him throughout his career, and this season is no exception.
October 30, 2008
Paul Pierce reportedly has lost 15 pounds since the end of last season, according to the Boston Herald.

Our View:This should make Pierce even quicker on defense, which will certainly help the Celtics in their title defense.
October 28, 2008
The Celtics began their title defense with a 90-85 win over the Cavaliers. Paul Pierce led the way with 25 points on 9-of-14 shooting.

Our View:With three legitimate scorers on the Celtics any of them can go out and score 20+ points. On Tuesday night it was Pierce.
October 11, 2008
Forward Paul Pierce managed 15 points, four assists, and three rebounds in under 22 minutes against the Rockets on Saturday night. He hit 5-of-6 shots from the floor and went 5-for-7 at the line.

Our View:Pierce's scoring dropped off last season, but fantasy owners all know he is a very solid all-around contributor. We expect nothing less in 2008-09.
September 29, 2008
Paul Pierce has been icing his right knee during the off-season, but does not believe the ailment will be a lingering issue, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View:He was not sporting a knee brace when he walked to the podium for a press conference. Pierce is expected to be ready for the start of the 2008 campaign as the Celtics shoot for their second straight NBA title.
September 9, 2008
The Celtics and head coach Doc Rivers have reached an agreement on a contract extension, Yahoo! Sports notes. The deal will keep Rivers in Boston through the 2010-11 season.

Our View:These things tend to come into place nicely after championship seasons.
August 4, 2008
The Las Vegas Review Journal reports that Paul Pierce was handcuffed by Las Vegas police early Sunday after he was initially uncooperative following a traffic stop for driving erratically on the Strip. Bill Cassell, public information officer for the Metropolitan Police Department, said he did not have the specific details as to why Pierce was cuffed but said it often happens when "an individual is loudly hostile." The traffic stop occurred around 3 a.m. near Las Vegas Boulevard and Tropicana Avenue. A Breathalyzer showed Pierce registered below the 0.08 level that defines legal intoxication in Nevada. Police did not cite Pierce for a traffic infraction. Cassel added, "We don't cite everybody we stop. Sometimes we give just a verbal warning. It's based on the totality of the circumstances."

Our View:Pierce didn't break any laws and was not charged with anything, so this incident has no significance regarding next season.
July 12, 2008
Paul Pierce received his MRI results on his ailing knee, which came back negative, according to the Boston Herald. The MRI showed that there is no significant problem that will hinder him into next season. Danny Ainge said, "It’s what we thought all along. He had a sprained MCL and a bone bruise, and he’ll be fine."

Our View:The injured knee has shown improvement and Pierce now plans to participate in full hoop workouts shortly after the ESPY Awards next week. He looks to be fine and shouldn't carry a red flag as an injury risk for next season.
July 8, 2008
Paul Pierce plans to undergo an MRI on his ailing right knee this week, according to the Boston Herald. He said, "I’ve still got some soreness in it, so hopefully it’s nothing major where I’ll require surgery. I’m just going to get an MRI while I’m in town. I doubt if I need any surgery just based on it’s getting better and better."

Our View:Pierce doesn't expect to need surgery, but the MRI will decide for sure.
June 19, 2008
NBA.com reports that Paul Pierce had not slept in 36 hours but the Boston Celtics captain was more than ready to greet the tens of thousands of fans who turned out Thursday to celebrate the team's first NBA championship in 22 years. "We're tired of watching these parades on TV. Now we get to enjoy our own,'' said Pierce, wearing a championship cap and holding the MVP trophy. "I haven't had any sleep yet, so now I'm still enjoying it.''

Our View:Pierce led the Celtics to the team's 17th championship and was easily the MVP of the tournament.
June 19, 2008
Paul Pierce won't play for Team USA in the Olympics, according to the Boston Globe. Pierce is battling a strained right knee, and managing director Jerry Colangelo said, "He's had an incredible year. But he wasn't able to participate the past two years. As a result of that, it's one of the circumstances that is unavoidable."

Our View:Pierce won't be able to represent the US in the Olympics, but he has plenty to be proud of over the summer, as he led the Celtics to their 17th title.
June 15, 2008
Paul Pierce scored a game-high 38 points in Sunday's 103-98 loss to the Lakers in Game 5. He also chipped in six boards, eight assists, and one steal. The Celtics could not close out the series tonight, but still lead 3-2, and will have two chances at home to get the job done.

Our View:38 points was his highest total of the playoffs, since he scored 41 in Game 7 against the Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference Semi-Finals.
June 15, 2008
Despite the outstanding job Paul Pierce did in the second half of Game 4 guarding Kobe Bryant, Rivers told the Boston Herald, that he plans to rotate defenders on the league MVP in Game 5. Ray Allen, Posey, and Pierce have all taken turns shadowing Bryant. "One guy will not guard Kobe Bryant," said Rivers. "It's just too hard. It's too much work, and it takes all the energy out of that one guy. We basically have used three guys. We're capable of using four with Tony Allen, and it'll probably stay the same."

Our View:The Celtics are not going to overwork Pierce, not with a tender ankle, and especially not with a 3-1 lead in the series. The worst case scenario is that Boston returns home and has two games to win a championship.
June 13, 2008
Celtics All Star forward Paul Pierce rolled his right ankle in the Game 4 comeback win over the Lakers but was able to remain in the game.

Our View:The team is calling Pierce day-to-day, but there is no way the staff will be able keep their top scorer out of the potential series ending Fathers Day affair.
June 12, 2008
Paul Pierce, playing in front of friends and family in Los Angeles, led the Celtics in scoring with 20 points as the team moved to within one win of the NBA championship.

Our View:Pierce was 6-for-13 from the field, and 8-for-9 from the line while adding seven assists in the victory.
June 10, 2008
Paul Pierce had a rough night in Game 3. The captain scored only six points on 2-of-14 shooting from the floor. He missed all four of his three-point attempts.

Our View:Pierce had a four-point performance back in the series against the Cavaliers, and we expect him to come back with a much, much better outing in Game 4.
June 8, 2008
The Boston Celtics have taken a decisive 2-0 lead against the LA Lakers in the NBA Finals, tonight's effort led once again by forward Paul Pierce . Pierce went 9-of-16 from the field, a perfect 4-of-4 from three-point range, and 6-of-7 from the free-throw line to score 28 points with four rebounds and eight assists.

Our View:This was more of a team effort than Game 1 and you can bet Pierce won't be getting to the line so often when we shift to LA. With that said, his leadership and execution are leading the way and have Boston in good position.
June 8, 2008
Paul Pierce is ready to go for Game 2 of the NBA Finals Sunday, according to the AP. He took part in Sunday's shootaround and showed no ill-effects of the right knee sprain that temporarily forced him out of Game 1.

Our View:Pierce looked fine after coming back from the injury late in Game 1, so we certainly didn't expect him to miss Game 2.
June 7, 2008
Paul Pierce said his injured right knee feels better, and he expects to play in Game 2 of the Finals against the Lakers on Sunday, according to the AP.

Our View:Pierce doesn’t plan to practice Saturday and will continue to ice the ailing knee and get electrical stimulus treatments. The swelling is down, but he is still experiencing stiffness, and cannot bend the knee as much as he would like. The Celtics lead 1-0, and he will do his best to play and try to prevent the Lakers from evening the series.
June 7, 2008
Lakers' coach Phil Jackson is skeptical that Paul Pierce was not as severely injured in Game 1 of the Finals as he is acting, according to the Boston Herald. Jackson said, "I don't know if the angels visited him at halftime (in Game 1) or in that timeout period, but he didn't even limp when he came back out on the floor (after sustaining the knee injury). I don't know what was going on there. Was Oral Roberts back there in their locker room?"

Our View:If Pierce was adding drama to his injury or not, he is still receiving two or three treatments a day leading up to Game 2 on Sunday.
June 7, 2008
Paul Pierce is hobbled by a sprained right knee, but believes he can play in Game 2 of the Finals against the Lakers, according to the Star-Telegram. Pierce stated, "I think there's a great chance I'll play on Sunday, just knowing myself, knowing my threshold for pain."

Our View:Pierce will receive two or three treatments on the knee a day leading up to Sunday. He is aware that the knee could be in bad shape, but will wait until after the series to undergo an MRI.
June 6, 2008
Paul Pierce answered questions about the right knee sprain he suffered in the third quarter of Game 1 with the Boston Globe. His knee was heavily wrapped, and he walked up the podium stairs with a visible limp, but told the media he had a good chance of playing Sunday.

Our View:Pierce said he would be receiving treatment 2-3 times a day, and the team will continue to evaluate how the knee responds. Expect Pierce to play; these are the Finals.
June 6, 2008
The Boston Globe reports that after the game last night, Paul Pierce (knee) took a wait-and-see approach about his availability for Game 2 in the Garden. “We'll see,” he said. “I mean, it's in pain. I was able to get through tonight. I don't know if it was off adrenaline or what, but got through it.” Celtics coach Doc Rivers this morning in an interview on Boston sports radio station WEEI took a similar tact.

Our View:We will be shocked if Pierce doesn't play. This is the Finals. If you can walk, you can play.
June 5, 2008
Paul Pierce collided with teammate Kendrick Perkins in the third quarter and was down for several minutes before being carried of the court and eventually taken to the locker room in a wheel chair, according to the Associated Press. Pierce returned minutes later with a sleeve on his right leg.

Our View:Pierce appeared to be doing his best Willis Reed impersonation tonight returning to inspire the troops.
June 4, 2008
Paul Pierce faces a tough matchup against Kobe Bryant. He is proving to be the Celtics' go-to guy offensively, and there is some concern about how much juice it will take to defend the Lakers All World shooting guard.

Our View:Pierce is the key to the Celtics success. The top dog of the Big Three will have to find a way to play hard on both ends of the court yet take a play or two off to keep his energy level high.
May 30, 2008
Paul Pierce led the Celtics with 27 points in the series-clinching 89-81 win over Detroit in Game 6. He also paced the team with eight boards, along with three assists, two steals, and one block.

Our View:Pierce scored his most points in the six game series tonight, and tied his high in rebounds.
May 20, 2008
Paul Pierce scored 22 points Tuesday night to help Boston to an 88-79 victory in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference finals, the Celtics' 15th straight home win.

Our View:Pierce continues to be the team leader, and the go-to point guard when the team needs a lift.
May 18, 2008
Thanks to LeBron James, the Boston Celtics nearly blew Game 7 at home in the Eastern Conference semifinals, but thanks to forward Paul Pierce , they pulled through with a 97-92 win. Pierce was 13-of-23 from the field, an impressive 4-of-6 from long range, and 11-of-12 from the charity stripe to score 41 points.

Our View:Pierce also added five assist and four rebounds with two steals to the stat line. The rest of the Celtics' starters failed to find a member to score more than 13 points (Kevin Garnett) in support of his effort, but the fouls caught up to Cleveland in the end and now Boston moves on to face Detroit.
May 14, 2008
Paul Pierce led all scorers as the Celtic beat the Cleveland Cavaliers 96-89 on Wednesday night to move within a win of the Eastern Conference finals. Pierce scored 29 points and hit critical free throws down the stretch.

Our View:The ex-Jayhawk added seven rebounds to his Game 5 statline.
May 14, 2008
While Kevin Garnett is generally seen as the "man" in Beantown, Paul Pierce is still the team's captain. And at this point in the series, it's time for the captain to step up from his 2-for-14 shooting performance in Game 4.

Our View:He has mostly been mediocre the past four games, not managing more than 19 points in any of them and shooting just 18-for-52 from the floor (34.6 percent).
May 8, 2008
Paul Pierce rebounded from a 2-for-14 effort in Game 1 to score 19 points on 7-for-13 shooting in Game 2.

Our View:Pirece has been dealing with back and hip issues, but he overcame all of that tonight in a solid effort that included six rebounds against the Cavs.
May 6, 2008
Paul Pierce is nursing a lower back sprain and right hip sprain, but will fight through his injuries to play in the next round against Cleveland, according to the Boston Globe. Pierce said he feels fine despite having just one day off between series', and added, "The back is doing a lot better. The hip is a little sore from Game 6 in Atlanta. I don't think it will have an effect on me."

Our View:He was able to come through with a game-high 22 points in Game 7 to help close the door on the pesky eighth-seeded Hawks, and he shouldn't let the Celtics down as they battle King James and Company.
May 4, 2008
Paul Pierce led Boston to a convincing 99-65 win in Game 7 on Sunday, as he scored a game-high 22 points, with eight boards, three assists, and two steals.

Our View:He fought through his hip ailment to help close the door on the persistent Hawks.
May 4, 2008
Paul Pierce is expected to play in Game 7 against the Hawks, according to the Boston Globe. Pierce injured his right hip during Game 6 Friday night in Atlanta. Coach Doc Rivers said, "Pierce was the only guy that didn't go through walkthrough yesterday. Not because he couldn't, it's more that if he's hurting, no one is going to have him walking around on the floor. But I expect him to be fine."

Our View:Pierce is averaging 17 points over the six games against Atlanta, and will need to fight through his injury in crucial Game 7 today.
May 3, 2008
Paul Pierce did not participate in Saturday's walkthrough because of a right hip bruise sustained in a collision with Hawks' forward Marvin Williams in the fourth quarter of Game 6, according to the Star Tribune. Pierce is still expected to play on Sunday.

Our View:Pierce is averaging 17 points over the six games against Atlanta, and will need to fight through his injury in crucial Game 7 on Sunday.
April 30, 2008
The Boston Celtics may be struggling to put their 1st-round opponent, the Atlanta Hawks, to bed, but tonight they sent a message with a 110-85 win over the Atlanta Hawks. Forward Paul Pierce served as the primary scoring machine for the Celts this evening, going 10-of-17 from the field to score 22 points, adding seven rebounds and six assists to the stat line.

Our View:Pierce was the focus of complaints and controversy coming into the game (as we reported earlier, accusations that a hand signal used by Pierce in the face of Atlanta center Al Horford might be gang related were reported by local papers), and he used that frustration to carry an attitude on the court and get the job done.
April 30, 2008
The NBA fined Boston forward Paul Pierce $25,000 for what the league has defined as a "menacing gesture" during the team's Game 3 matchup against the Atlanta Hawks, and in response to reports from local papers, Pierce has told reporters the hand gesture was not gang related, according to the Associated Press.

Our View:Pierce flashed a hand gesture towards Atlanta forward Al Horford, holding up his right hand to form an "O" with his thumb and index finger while extending his other fingers. Boston GM Danny Ainge also addressed the situation, stating the symbol is a pregame ritual for Pierce and noting the three fingers represent "blood, sweat, and tears." Pierce noted his personally-organized charity group aimed at helping young urban teens avoid gang activities in Boston and stated he would never support such gestures in his life or those he chooses to associate with. "I am extremely proud of the work I have done through the foundation to provide positive influences and safe havens for inner city kids," Pierce said. Some may also remember Pierce was the target of a robbery and stabbing several years ago while walking the streets of Boston, a crime believed to be perpetuated by potential gang members. It is hard to imagine Pierce has forgotten and would now support such activities, but the press seems to have grabbed the story and run a bit crazy with it.
April 29, 2008
Paul Pierce was fined $25,000 by the NBA on Monday for making a "menacing gesture" toward the Hawks bench on Saturday, the Boston Globe reports. "I would say that the league is sending a message to one of the best players in the world to play the game." commissioner David Stern says.

Our View:We're sure the Hawks were offended and kids across Boston are now flashing the same sign.
April 25, 2008
Paul Pierce is fine to play in Game 3 against the Hawks, despite getting body-slammed to the ground in his last outing, according to ESPN.com. Pierce had no problems in practice Friday before the Celtics headed to Atlanta for Saturday's game.

Our View:The Celtics hold a 2-0 lead and Pierce has contributed 30 points over the two wins. He should continue to produce in Game 3, and the team said he will play without restrictions.
April 23, 2008
Reports out of Boston indicate forward Paul Pierce is suffering from a lower back strain sustained during the first quarter of tonight's win over the Atlanta Hawks, according to the Boston Globe. Pierce was asked about the injury in the post-game press conference but indicates it is not a big deal. "The back's a little sore," Piece said. "Obviously, I took a hard hit in the first quarter. I'll get treatment, rest it up for the next couple of days, and I think it should be fine."

Our View:Keep an eye on this as Game 3 approaches. It sounds minimal, but back pain can be tricky and may hamper Pierce the rest of the way.
April 14, 2008
Paul Pierce will not play on Monday night. He was seen with a bandage and an ice pack on his left wrist, and he will undergo X-rays on Tuesday, just to make sure it's only a bruise, the Boston Globe confirms.

Our View:Pierce wouldn't be playing on Monday even if he was fully healthy, as the Celtics are resting up for the playoffs.
April 12, 2008
Paul Pierce took only seven shots on Saturday night on his way to scoring 14 points thanks to an 8-for-8 night from the line.

Our View:This is actually the third time in the last seven games that Pierce has taken nine or fewer shots, well below his season long average of 14 shots per game.
April 9, 2008
Paul Pierce recorded a team high 28 points in Wednesday's 109-95 loss to the Wizards. Pierce added two rebounds and seven assists to the team's losing statline. Boston is playing out their final five games and won't use their starting body of players in excess over the next week and a half of the regular season.
April 7, 2008
Paul Pierce is likely to miss Tuesday's game due to the birth of his daughter on Friday. The All-Star did not travel with the team, and head coach Doc Rivers tells the Boston Globe there's only a small chance Pierce will join the club in Milwaukee. Pierce is expected to play on Wednesday, though.
April 3, 2008
Paul Pierce's fiancee is expected to have induced labor, possibly as early as today, which could mean Pierce sitting out Saturday's game in Charlotte, according to CelticsBlog.com. Pierce has played in all 75 games this season so far. Check back for updates on this situation.
March 26, 2008
Paul Pierce did his part in Boston's 117-97 win over Phoenix, going 9-of-16 from the field and a perfect 9-of-9 from the free-throw line to score 27 points with six rebounds, four assists, one steal, and a block. Pierce remains the leader of the Celtics and shows why with another strong fantasy performance.
March 24, 2008
Paul Pierce was limited to just 12 points on Monday night, but unlike other occasions when he has just chucked up shots, Pierce was content to let others shoot the rock as he took just six shots on the night. This was a forgettable game for Piere who failed to scored at least 13 points for only the second time in his last 17 contests.
March 22, 2008
In a game that might speak volumes about the upcoming NBA playoffs, Paul Pierce tried his best to keep the East in the nation’s good graces, but the Celtics fell short 106-113 to the New Orleans Hornets. Pierce went 9-of-15 from the field, including 3-of-5 from three-point range, scoring 28 points with six rebounds and two assists. Pierce appears to have continued his role as the primary guy for Boston, even with the addition of Kevin Garnett. Getting past teams like this in the playoffs will be a concern if they can’t all get it right.
March 20, 2008
Paul Pierce scored 22 points and a recorded a season-high 13 rebounds helping Boston keep the best overall record, 55-13, in the league. It was Boston's 14th win in 15 games, and the team's first win in Dallas since 2000. Pierce continues to be a top fantasy contributor averaging 20 points, five rebounds and five assists per game.
March 17, 2008
Paul Pierce led Boston with 22 points as they edged San Antonio, 93-91. He also registered eight rebounds, five assists, one steal, and one block. This was a strong all-around game for Pierce.
March 12, 2008
Paul Pierce posted a double-double in the Celtics' 111-82 win over Seattle this evening, scoring 14 points with 11 assists and five rebounds, adding two steals and a block. Pierce rarely hits double digits in anything but scoring, thus tonight's performance is a nice bonus for fantasy owners (but it won't be the start of a trend).
February 27, 2008
Paul Pierce was held to just 12 points on Wednesday night, well below his 20.6 pace, but he dished out six assists and pulled five rebounds in the Celtics win. More proof that Pierce wants to win as he did what it took on the night to get the team the W.
February 10, 2008
Paul Pierce scored 35 points to lead a Kevin Garnett-less Celtics team to a 98-90 victory over the Spurs. Ray Allen added 19 and Rajon Rondo had 11 rebounds and 12 assists. Pierce has hit a bit of a rough patch of late averaging just 17 points a contest before this explosion.
February 6, 2008
Paul Pierce played through a stomach bug last night, scoring 19 points in 35 minutes of action. Towards the end of the first quarter, he had a towel on his head and a trash can in front of him, according to the Boston Globe. The Celts have another game tonight against the Clippers. "I didn't know what we were going to get out of him," coach Doc Rivers said of Pierce. "Obviously, now we're concerned about [tonight]. That's going to be a tough one for him as well."
