Chauncey Billups scored 12 points to go along with five assists in the Pistons' 85-71 win over the Bucks on Wednesday night.

Our View:Billups played 26 minutes on Wednesday night as he prepares for the season. A year ago the point guard scored 17 points a game and averaged six assists a game.
July 29, 2008
Chauncey Billups feels like the Pistons core needs yet another chance to bring home a title as they did in 2004, according to the Boston Herald. He said general manager Joe Dumars should do nothing more to change the roster. "I’ve been to the top of the mountain with these guys, and I know what that feels like...And I think change to a few of those pieces - it changes things...and it takes a while to get back to that level. And I’m not saying it can’t happen...but I’ve never seen it happen." Billups also said he believes new coach Michael Curry deserves a shot with this group.

Our View:With the emergence of Rodney Stuckey, it appeared earlier this offseason that Billups was expendable. He was rumored in trades to Golden State, Denver and Houston among others but is still in place as the starting point guard in Detroit. The Pistons are a very deep team and their new coach must find the right mix of minutes and combinations of veterans and youth to contend for another title next season. If no moves are made, expect to see the minutes shared more evenly next season, thus bringing down the fantasy value of some of the starters.
July 12, 2008
The Pistons and Warriors have reportedly been discussing a potential trade involving Chauncey Billups, according to the Oakland Tribune. The Pistons want Andris Biedrins, but the Warriors are offering Al Harrington.

Our View:Billups may not be a great fit with Golden State as he will turn 32 in September and the Warriors employ a run-and-gun style.
June 25, 2008
Internet rumors persist that the Detroit Pistons may be willing to move veteran point guard Chauncey Billups for draft picks. Several media locations suggest that the team is interested in Baron Davis.

Our View:Supposedly the word in the Bay Area is that Davis does not want to opt out of the final year of his contract with the Warriors, but that he's also not satisfied with extension talks he has had with the team.
June 18, 2008
Chauncey Billups has pulled his name out of the Team USA hat for this summer's Olympic games, the AP reports. The Pistons point guard battled a right hamstring injury late in the playoffs.

Our View:Hey, you're either with us or against us, Chauncey! Clearly you've stated your position. We're kidding, of course.
June 3, 2008
Detroit president Joe Dumars shocked more than a few reporters today in announcing he intends to "shake up" the team's primary players this off-season, according to the Detroit Free Press.

Our View:Dumars went on to suggest all of his players in open for trade discussions, and Rasheed Wallace could be the most coveted player in that group. His expiring contract is attractive and he offers tremendous gifts on the floor. Reporters also speculate guard Chauncey Billups could be headed out of Detroit. His lack of defensive effort and his growing age (not to mention the rise of Rodney Stuckey) are negatives in this system.
May 30, 2008
Chauncey Billups scored a game-high 29 points, but the Pistons still fell to the Celtics 89-81 in Game 6. He also chipped in six boards and six assists. Detroit lost the series 4-2.

Our View:Billups fought through his injuries to carry Detroit tonight, but his heroic effort just wasn't enough to push a Game 7 against Boston.
May 30, 2008
Now facing elimination, Detroit needs Chauncey Billups to stay hot. The Pistons point man is finally starting to look like his old self again, with 26 points, six assists and five rebounds in Game 5.

Our View:The biggest concern is shooting guard Richard Hamilton who strained his right elbow in the closing moments on Wednesday, and left the arena in a sling. X-rays were negative, but he's considered questionable and his official status will be unknown until right before game time.
May 28, 2008
The Celtics held a dominating lead through most of the game, but Detroit guards Chauncey Billups and Richard Hamilton brought the Pistons back to make it interesting. However, Boston closed with free-throws to win 106-102. Billups shot 7-of-17 from the field, 3-of-7 from three-point range, and a perfect 9-of-9 from the free-throw line to score 26 points, adding four rebounds, six assists, and two steals to the stat line. Hamilton joined the effort with 25 points of his own, going 8-of-14 from the floor and 8-of-9 from the free throw to finish just one rebound shy of Billups (4) and match his assist number (6).

Our View:These two, along with Rasheed Wallace, gave Boston the scare, but the series is now at 3-2 in favor of the Celts.
May 27, 2008
Chauncey Billups fought through his injured hamstring to score 10 points in Monday's key 94-75 win in Game 4. He only shot 3-of-12 from the field (1-for-3 from long range), but also contributed seven assists and two steals. The series is now tied 2-2.

Our View:Billups has reached double digits in scoring in the Pistons' two wins over Boston, and only scored six and nine points in the two losses. It is clear that the series hinges on his health for Detroit.
May 26, 2008
Chauncey Billups will continue to play through his injured hamstring, but RotoTimes sources report that rookie backup Rodney Stuckey will log more playing time tonight.

Our View:Billups answered the call in Game 2 when he gutted out 19 points and seven assists in a key road victory, but his six points in Game 3 has forced the team's hand. Stuckey is now averaging 13 points a game in the series, including his 17 in Game 3.
May 25, 2008
Chauncey Billups likely isn't going to be healthy for the remainder of the Eastern Conference Finals against Boston, but he is not going to let his ailing right hamstring keep him off the court, according to ESPN.com. Billups said, "Hurt or not, I still have to play better and fight through it. At this juncture of the season, you can't sit out. I'm one of the main leaders of the team. We've got a young guy, Stuckey, who is playing great and we've got to find ways to keep him playing well. But I know I have to play good for us to win."

Our View:Stuckey has fared well as he is averaging 13 points against the Celtics, but hasn't been good enough as the Pistons trail in the series 2-1. The Pistons will host Game 4 on Monday, and coach Flip Saunders is hoping for the best from Billups.
May 25, 2008
Chauncey Billups is still bothered by his ailing right hamstring, and he was limited to six points over a little under 27 minutes of action in Saturday's 94-80 loss to Boston in Game 3. He shot 1-of-6 from the field, and 1-of-4 from long range. He also mustered three boards and four assists.

Our View:That was his lowest point output of the series, and his second lowest of the postseason. Detroit now trails Boston 2-1 in the series with him less than 100%.
May 24, 2008
Chauncey Billups was a little sore at practice on Friday due to his injured right hamstring, but he was still able to make it through the entire practice, according to the Detroit Free Press.

Our View:Billups should be fine for Game 3 after playing 32 minutes in Game 2, though it is clear to anyone watching that he is operating at less than 100% with the main issue being a lack of quickness.
May 20, 2008
Chauncey Billups, who missed most of the last three games of Detroit's Eastern Conference semifinal against Orlando because of a strained right hamstring, had nine points and two assists.

Our View:The Pistons point guard went almost 40 minutes between baskets, just one of the reasons that Detroit seemed ill timed for most of the game.
May 20, 2008
Chauncey Billups, who injured his hamstring in the Round 2 series against the Atlanta Hawks, told the Detroit News he's not 100 percent. For the past four days, he's said that his leg was 100 percent. But every time he said it, there was an impish grin on his face.

Our View:On Monday, before the team left for Boston, he met with reporters, said everything was fine. Then, before shoot-around Tuesday morning, Billups' nose quit growing. The hamstring injury that he sustained in Game 3 in Orlando may never be completely healed the rest of the playoffs.
May 17, 2008
Chauncey Billups is still expected to play in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals, according to the Detroit Free Press. He is nursing a hamstring ailment, but went full speed during Friday's practice, and Coach Flip Saunders remarked, "He's actually worked harder today than he's worked even when he's real healthy."

Our View:Billups hasn't played since suffering the injury early in Game 3 of the second-round series against Orlando, and Detroit is awaiting their next opponent, which will be settled by Game 7 between Boston and Cleveland.
May 15, 2008
Chauncey Billups is expected to be ready for Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals, according to the AP. Coach Flip Saunders commented that Billups looked good enough in practice Thursday that he could have played if there was a game. Billups missed the last two games against the Magic with a strained right hamstring.

Our View:The Pistons are awaiting their next opponent. Boston currently leads Cleveland 3-2, and the Pistons could open the Conference Finals on Sunday if the Celtics eliminate the Cavs in Game 6.
May 13, 2008
Contradicting earlier reports, it now looks as if Chauncey Billups will not play in Game 5 because of a strained right hamstring, according to the Associated Press.

Our View:Despite encouraging news earlier in the day, it seems like Billups just isn't well enough to play meaning the Pistons will have to lean on Lindsey Hunter and Rodney Stuckey to pick up the slack.
May 13, 2008
After watching Chauncey Billups participate in Tuesday morning's shootaround, team GM Joe Dumars said he thinks Billups will play in Game 5, according to ESPN. Dumars commented, "He was moving pretty good. I don't want to get ahead of myself, but I think he's going to try to give it a go tonight. That's what it looks like. But he looked really good today in shootaround." Dumars added, "We truly err on the side of caution here. We never try to push a guy out on the court and try to make him play. Chauncey's a guy who understands this. He's not the kind of guy who's going to go out there and do anything crazy and try it and hurt himself. If he plays, that means he really feels good enough to play. If he doesn't play, it's simply because he's saying, 'You now what, I don't want to risk anything."

Our View:Billups received treatment on his strained hamstring and went through a workout with strength and conditioning coach Arnie Kander before the practice. Detroit is up 3-1 in the series, and can close it out tonight in Detroit.
May 13, 2008
With Chauncey Billups out of Game 4, the Pistons got a solid combined fill-in effort from rookie guard Rodney Stuckey and veteran Lindsey Hunter. They combined for 14 points and six helpers.

Our View:Billups is questionable for tonight's game, but the backcourt isn't the area of concern for the Pistons. They need only hold Dwight Howard down to give themselves a chance to close out Round 2 tonight.
May 13, 2008
Chauncey Billups is feeling better, but is yet to be cleared to play in Game 5 tonight, according to the Orlando Sentinel. He strained his hamstring back in Game 3, and sat out Game 4 due to the ailment. Strength and conditioning coach Arnie Kander said, "My key with this is no setbacks from day to day. If you look at it three or four days ago and compare it to today, it's night and day. He's running good and feeling good. He needs to be confident enough in his rehabilitation to play again."

Our View:Detroit edged Orlando by one point (90-89) in Game 4 without Billups, and tonight's game is home in Detroit. The Pistons can win without Billups, but would have a much better chance to do so with him back in the lineup.
May 10, 2008
Updating an earlier report, Detroit guard Chauncey Billups will not be playing for the Pistons as they face the Orlando Magic in Game 4 of their playoff series this evening, according to the Associated Press.

Our View:This could be troublesome news for Detroit. They managed to suffer their first loss to the Magic in Game 3 after Billups was lost, suffering a pulled hamstring after slipping under the hoop. The team leader and pace setter on offense is a key ingredient, giving the Magic reason for optimism.
May 10, 2008
Chauncey Billups will be a game-time decision for today's battle with Orlando, according to the Detroit Free Press. Billups is feeling better, but said, "It's still tough to say because it's a soft-tissue injury. It's very restrictive. Even when I try to walk kind of fast, it's restrictive. It's tough. You have to be careful." He is being slowed by a strained right hamstring.

Our View:He is really needed for pivotal Game 4 in Orlando, as Detroit holds a 2-1 lead in the series.
May 9, 2008
Chauncey Billups is feeling better today, according to the Detroit News. Billups said, "I am feeling a little better today, but it's still tough to say whether I will be ready to play in Game 4 Saturday. It's a soft tissue injury and it's tough. It's very restrictive. Even when I just try to walk fast, it's restrictive. I have to be careful." Pistons' physical therapist Arnie Kander said, "The fact that he has improved this quickly is a great sign. Usually Day 2 after you irritate a muscle feels terrible. That fact that he is walking normally is really positive."

Our View:Billups added that he might shoot some Friday, but he wouldn't full-out test the leg until Saturday morning. He is really needed for pivotal Game 4 in Orlando, as Detroit holds a 2-1 lead in the series.
May 8, 2008
Chauncey Billups is still sore (due to a strained right hamstring) and isn't sure if he can play in Game 4 on Saturday, according to the AP. He said, "Just going to take it one day at a time and see what happens. But it’s feeling sore, kind of similar to last night. I felt a little something. I’m just hoping it was a strain, what I felt. But I felt something in there. I never really had a hamstring like this before."

Our View:The Magic won their first game of the series Wednesday with Billups out of action, and the Pistons really need him to be healthy in pivotal Game 4. The game will take place in Orlando.
May 8, 2008
Chauncey Billups will likely play in Game 4 against Orlando on Saturday, according to the AP. Billups left Wednesday’s loss in Game 3 early in the first quarter, and will have a precautionary MRI on his strained right hamstring Thursday. Coach Flip Saunders said, "We’re shooting for him to play on Saturday. He’s sore right now. We won’t know for the next 24 hours where he’s really at. But all indications are that we’re shooting for him to play Saturday."

Our View:Billups is officially listed as day-to-day. The Magic won their first game of the series Wednesday with Billups out of action, and the Pistons really need him to be healthy in pivotal Game 4.
May 7, 2008
Pistons guard Chauncey Billups has left tonight's playoff game against the Orlando Magic with what appears to be a strained right hamstring, according to the Sports Network.

Our View:Billups was hurt with 8:11 left in the opening quarter of play, driving from the right side towards the hoop. The team reports his return to action is questionable.
May 5, 2008
Chauncey Billups scored 28 points helping Detroit beat Orlando 100-93 on Monday night. The win gives the Pistons a 2-0 lead in the second-round series.

Our View:Billips added five rebounds and four assists in the win.
May 5, 2008
Chauncey Billups has been named the recipient of the J. Walter Kennedy Citizenship Award, according to the AP. The award honors an NBA player or coach for outstanding service and dedication to the community.

Our View:Billups earned the award for his charity work in Detroit and his hometown of Denver.
May 3, 2008
Chauncey Billups scored a game-high 19 points in Saturday's 91-72 win over Orlando. He also chipped in two boards, and seven assists.

May 1, 2008
Chauncey Billups had 20 points, three rebounds and seven assists as the Pistons defeated the Sixers to move on to the second round of the playoffs.

Our View:Billups hit eight of 11 shots, including three 3-pointers, and when he was on the court the Pistons outscored the Sixers by 37 points. A true leader in every sense.
April 29, 2008
In what may rank as the most surprising struggle of the NBA's 1st-round playoff matchups, the Detroit Pistons are struggling to put the Philadelphia 76ers to bed. Tonight, they have taken a step in the right direction with a 98-81 victory over the Sixers, taking a 3-2 lead in the series. The push to move forward is once again led by guard Chauncey Billups , shooting 7-of-14 from the floor, 3-of-6 from the three-point line, and 4-of-6 from the free-throw line to score a team-high 21 points, also adding a team-high 12 assists.

Our View:Thus far, Billups has been rather inconsistent in this series, this being his first 20-point game as well as his first game with double-digit assists. Billups is charged with setting the pace for this team and is especially crucial when center Rasheed Wallace is struggling to find his top game. If Detroit is going to find their full potential, Billups needs more night like tonight.
April 29, 2008
The Detroit Pistons and Philadelphia 76ers have hit halftime of their Game-5 playoff matchup this evening with the Pistons setting the tone and taking a sizable lead, up 54-42.

Our View:Chauncey Billups has led the charge, scoring 17 points on 6-of-9 from the floor and 3-of-4 from the three-point line. Billups has also totaled seven assists through the half, well on his way to a double-double that could give his team a much-needed win.
April 13, 2008
The Detroit Pistons continue to trim minutes and build rest for their top commodities with no single player earning more than 25 minutes in today’s 84-91 win over the Toronto Raptors. Rookie guard Rodney Stuckey topped all efforts with 5-of-9 from the field and 8-of-8 from the charity stripe to record 18 points. Chauncey Billups totaled 14 points, Rodney “Rip” Hamilton scored 12, and Rasheed Wallace scored 4. No single player on the Detroit roster gathered double-digit totals in rebounding or assists.

Our View:It’s wonderful new for traditional fans of the Pistons, though the statistical results are concerning for fantasy owners. The Pistons get the win despite an obvious desire to rest, meanwhile giving their reserve players experience and work that could prove valuable in the playoffs.
April 9, 2008
Once again the Pistons are limiting their starters' minutes and played most of the bench. Twelve total players received minutes on Wednesday night as the Pistons lost 96-92 to the Philadelphia 76ers. Chauncey Billups recorded the most minutes (29) for the Pistons and led the team in points scored (18). The Pistons player personnel have become fantasy unfriendly because of how they're being used.
April 8, 2008
Tonight could not have gone worse for the Detroit Pistons, posting seven players with double-digit scoring totals but none worthy of mention as fantasy stars and none contributing to a win, falling to the New York Knicks 94-98. Chauncey Billups went just 3-of-14 from the field and 1-of-5 from long range to score 11. Rasheed Wallace went just 3-of-11 from the floor and 0-of-5 from three-point range to score 6. Tashaun Prince; 4-of-12, 0-of-2, 11 points. Rodney Stuckey led the team with 14 points on 4-of-14 from the floor and 4-of-5 from the charity stripe.
April 4, 2008
Chauncey Billups confirms with the Detroit News that he plans to play on Friday night. He took the previous game off in order to rest for the playoffs.
April 2, 2008
Chauncey Billups will return to game action on Friday as he missed the Pistons last game simply to rest and prepare for the playoffs, this according to the Detroit News. In addition to Billups, Richard Hamilton and Rasheed Wallace should also be back on Friday. There is nothing wrong with a team resting its guys for the playoffs, but it would be nice if they gave us a heads up before they chose to do so. In this case, you have a couple of days to make sure the Pistons starters are in your starting lineup.
April 1, 2008
Chauncey Billups was deactivated for Tuesday's game against the Timberwolves, according to the Detroit Free Press. Billips doesn't have an injury we're aware of, so the Pistons could just be resting him before the playoffs. We'll fill you in on his situation when more is known.
March 27, 2008

March 24, 2008
Chauncey Billups scored 32 points on Monday night including nine points in OT to lead the Pistons to a 110-105 victory over the Suns. Billups also distributed six assists on the night. Billups continues to be the main cog in the Pistons engine and tonight was no different as he had ice in his veins from the free-throw line where he made 15 of 16 shots.
March 9, 2008
Chauncey Billups enjoyed another strong outing as he led the Pistons past the Bulls with a team high 34 points. He has now topped 20 points in seven of his last nine games and has been an unsung hero for the Pistons, as well as fantasy squads.
March 5, 2008
In Detroit's 78-90 loss to the Boston Celtics on Wednesday night, Chauncey Billups scored 23 points with five rebounds, seven assists, one steal, and two blocks, according to the Associated Press. Billups has been the man for the Pistons this season, but his effort failed to put Garnett and company on the ropes.
March 4, 2008
Chauncey Billups will return to the lineup tonight after missing Saturday's game because of a personal matter, according to MLive.com. "It's just some personal business I had to take care of," said Billups. "But it's good, though." The point guard declined to delve into specifics regarding the matter, but it appears everything is taken care of. Back to the business at hand.
March 1, 2008
At this time, the Pistons do not expect Chauncey Billups to rejoin them in time for Saturday's game, according to the Detroit Free Press. Billups left the team Thursday night to return to Detroit for a personal matter. Rookie Rodney Stuckey would start if Billups doesn't unexpectedly hook up with the 'Stones.
February 29, 2008
Chauncey Billups had to fly back to the Detroit area on Thursday to tend to a personal matter, according to the Detroit Free Press. It's not clear if he will rejoin the Pistons in time for Saturday's game, though he's currently listed as questionable. If Billups skips the game, look for rookie Rodney Stuckey to fill in as the starting point guard.
February 25, 2008
Chauncey Billups, who received a bump on the head on Sunday, shouldn't miss any time moving forward, this according to a report on the Detroit Free Press. Billups was on the receiving end of an Amare Stoudemire elbow, but he should be fine. Billups is obviously the heart and soul of the Pistons, and the engine that keeps that vehicle moving will remain active so continue to leave him active.
February 22, 2008
Chauncey Billups scored 21 points and handed out 12 assists in the Pistons 127-100 victory over the Bucks. Every Piston player scored at least three points in the team's biggest offensive output in regulation since March 8, 2000. Billups is working on a third straight season of at least 17 points and seven assists as the heart and soul of the Pistons.
