Player Notes
May 30, 2008
Tim Duncan did his all to keep the Spurs from being eliminated from the playoffs, but it wasn't enough as the Spurs fell 100-92 to the Lakers.

Our View:Duncan scored 19 points with 15 boards and 10 assists in a spectacular all-around performance that was all for not. He and his mates now will have a couple of months to gear up for another playoff run next year.
May 28, 2008
Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich confirmed with the San Antonio Express-News that he has signed a contract extension through the 2011-12 season.

Our View:The Spurs are seen to be an aging dynasty, but this extension should take Pop through the rest of the Tim Duncan era. The big fella will be 36 by the time this extension runs out.

The Spurs have taken a worrisome fall at home this evening, losing to the Los Angeles Lakers 93-91 in Game 4 of the Western Conference Finals. Power forward Tim Duncan did all he could to put his team in position to win, shooting 10-of-26 from the field and 9-of-11 from the charity stripe to score 29 points, adding a prolific 17 rebounds to complete the double-double effort.

Our View:Duncan also added three blocked shots and three steals, a stat line no other player in the game can match, but the Spurs leave with the loss and are now down 3-1 in the series. Every game is now a must-win for Duncan and crew, and it seems almost impossible to imagine they overcome those odds.

The scoring of Manu Ginobili might garner a few headlines, but the work of the best power forward to ever play the game, a.k.a. Tim Duncan , should astound as you review the box score from tonight's 103-84 win over the Lakers to take Game 3 of the Western Conference Finals. Duncan shot 8-of-17 from the field and 6-of-9 from the free-throw line to score 22 points, but it was the 21 rebounds that led to the Spurs to such a dominating performance.

Our View:Duncan also added five assists and one blocked shot to the stat line.
May 24, 2008
Tim Duncan scored 12 points with 16 rebounds and four assists for the Spurs in their Game 2 loss to the Lakers 101-71.

Our View:The Spurs scored only 37 points in the first half which when compared to their 34 point second half actually wasn't that bad. Duncan will have to help his teammates to elevate their level of play in Game 3, or this series will be over.
May 22, 2008
Tim Duncan scored a game-high 30 points in Wednesday's 89-85 loss to the Lakers in Game 1. He also led the game with 18 boards and four blocks, with two assists and two steals.

Our View:That was his highest scoring total since Game 1 of the first round against Phoenix, when he notched 40.
May 19, 2008
Tim Duncan had 16 points and 14 rebounds to help the Spurs advance past the Hornets with a 91-82 victory in Game 7.

Our View:Duncan hit only five of 17 shots on this night as he was clearly far from his best in this series against David West and the Hornets. Still he has averaged 16 boards a game over the last five, and he is the unquestioned leader of the squad.

The Spurs, who swept the Cleveland Cavaliers in last year's NBA Finals, have captured four world championships (1999, 2003, 2005, 2007) in the last nine years, and Tim Duncan has been a huge part of all four. History is not on San Antonio's side, however. Following a championship, the Spurs have never made it past the Western Conference semifinals in the playoffs. In 2000 they fell in the opening round to Phoenix, and lost in the semis to the Lakers in 2004 and Dallas in 2006.

Our View:San Antonio, which is playing in the postseason for the 11th straight year, advanced to the West semis for the eighth straight year. The Spurs knocked out Steve Nash and the sixth-seeded Phoenix Suns in five games in round one. The Spurs have won four of their last seven trips to the West semis. They defeated the Suns, 4-2, last year in this round.
May 15, 2008
Tim Duncan scored 20 points, had 15 rebounds and handed out six assists for the Spurs in Game 6.

Our View:Duncan could have a field day in Game 7 if David West isn't healthy enough to play, so keep an eye on his availability.
May 13, 2008
We reached the half and appeared to be on our way to an entertaining matchup, but the end of the 3rd quarter, the San Antonio Spurs had all but surrendered to the New Orleans Hornets, falling 101-79 in Game 5 of the Western Conference semifinal battle. Team general forward Tim Duncan went 5-for-18 from the floor and just 0-for-1 at the free-throw line to score 10 points.

Our View:If not for his 23 rebounds, and the Spurs would have suffered a worst fate, but now down 3-2 in the series is penalty enough.
May 12, 2008
Tim Duncan has been named to the NBA All-Defensive Team for the 11th time in his career, according to the AP. Team-mate Bruce Bowen was selected as well.

Our View:Duncan enjoyed another strong campaign as he averaged 19.3 points, and was chosen for the defensive honor by averaging 11.3 rebounds, 1.9 blocks, and 0.7 steals per outing.
May 11, 2008
Tim Duncan had 22 points and 15 rebounds, and the San Antonio Spurs beat the New Orleans Hornets 100-80 on Sunday night

Our View:The Spurs have now fought back to even the Western Conference semifinals at 2-2. Game 5 will return to New Orleans where the Hornets won the first two games.
May 8, 2008
Tim Duncan took only 13 shots in Game 3 but he made six of them on his way to a 16 point, 13 rebound, four block shot night.

Our View:Duncan played a game-high 43 minutes in his second solid outing after possibly his worst playoff performance of his storied career. He will need to be even better in Game 4 if the Spurs hope to even up the series.
May 5, 2008
The Spurs might put Tim Duncan on Hornets forward David West in Game 2. West poured in 30 points in the opener when he was mainly guarded by Kurt Thomas, Fabricio Oberto, and Robert Horry, the San Antonio Express-News notes.

Our View:The West-Duncan matchup is just as intriguing as the Chris Paul-Tony Parker battle. Duncan can't afford to get into foul trouble, but the Spurs also need to figure out how to slow down West.
April 29, 2008
The San Antonio Spurs closed their 1st-round playoff series with the Phoenix Suns this evening, handing the Suns the 92-87 failure after an ugly game with bad shooting and mishandled basketballs that has the Spurs moving to the next round while the Suns wonder what could have been. The Spurs turned to veteran leader Tim Duncan once more, and once more he got the job done, going 13-of-28 from the field to score 29 points, adding 17 rebounds and three blocked shots.

Our View:Duncan was labeled as the priority for Shaq O'Neill when the Suns traded for the veteran big man. Shaq held Duncan to 23.8 points and 13 rebounds per game. No one has found an answer for Duncan yet, and the teams that lay ahead aren't likely to solve the riddle when their time comes either.
April 22, 2008
Tim Duncan didn't score 40 points again, but his 18-point, 17-rebound effort helped the Spurs take a 2-0 lead over the Suns. The big man also managed four assists, one steal, and three blocks.

Our View:For those counting at home, Duncan now has 11 straight double-doubles in playoff games against the Suns. Not too shabby. Duncan may not be quite as dominant as he once was, but he is still a stud.
April 19, 2008
Coming into the playoff, the fans of the NBA speculated that the mighty defending champion San Antonio Spurs would struggle, for their leader and catalyst on both ends of the floor, Tim Duncan, has slowed a step or two and was struggling to produce at a top level. Those questions may have been answered today as Duncan shot 16-for-24 from the floor and 7-for-12 from the charity stripe to score 40 points, also adding 15 rebounds and three blocked shots.

Our View:Duncan needs help to get the job done in what may be the most competitive 1st-round series the NBA has seen in some time.
April 18, 2008
Tim Duncan will receive considerable attention from the Suns in their first round matchup, first in the form of Amare Stoudemire and then Boris Diaw, this according to the East Valley Tribune.

Our View:What is surprising about this decision by the Suns is that Shaquille O'Neal will not be guarding Duncan thereby, theoretically, leaving O'Neal more energy to play offense. Time will tell if this is a wise move or not.
April 13, 2008
Tim Duncan had a rough showing on Sunday. He hit only 6-of-19 shots against the Lakers. Duncan finished with 16 points and 12 boards.

Our View:It's tough to argue with a strong double-double, but the Spurs obviously can't afford to have Duncan shoot like that.
April 9, 2008
Tim Duncan scored 23 points and had 10 rebounds -- but it didn't help the Spurs in a home game loss to the streaking Phoenix Suns. The two teams continue to jockey for seeding in the tight Western Conference, but Wednesday's result didn't change their positioning. San Antonio remained in second place behind New Orleans.
March 26, 2008
Tim Duncan continues to push his San Antonio Spurs towards another strong playoff campaign, tonight leading his team to a 97-88 victory over the LA Clippers. Duncan went 8-of-10 from the field and 10-of-13 from the charity stripe to finish with 26 points, 12 rebounds, four assists, and two blocks. Each season seems to be another MVP campaign for Duncan, the best player on the best team in the land. Tonight was no exception.
March 20, 2008
Tim Duncan registered a double-double in Thursday's win over the Bulls on Thursday night. Duncan, who rested the entire fourth quarter, scored 22 points and added 10 rebounds in the 102-80 rout over Chicago.
March 17, 2008
Tim Duncan was held in check by Boston as he only registered 10 points, eight rebounds, and three blocks. Duncan was averaging 19.7 points and 11.5 boards heading into tonight's battle.
March 10, 2008
Tim Duncan came up large on Monday night in the Spurs four point victory over the Nuggets as he scored 23 points with 18 rebounds, five assists and three blocked shots. Duncan, a career 68.2% shooter from the foul-line made 9 of 10 shots from the charity stripe on the night in a spectacular all-around effort.
March 6, 2008
The Spurs cruised to a 108-97 victory over the Pacers that saw Tim Duncan limited to just 24 minutes of action as a result of the big lead as he scored a miserable six points and added 12 boards in the win. This was the second time in four games that Duncan failed to record at least 10 points, though he has still pulled in 12 boards or more in 3-straight outings.
February 28, 2008
Tim Duncan scored a game-high 31 points on Thursday night on 12-for-20 from the field and 7-for-10 from the line. Duncan also pulled down 15 boards and turned the ball over just one time as the Spurs defeated the Mavs 97-94. Duncan may not be the prettiest player ever to lace 'em up, but there have been few players as effective. Duncan is money as you just wind him up and let him go, and he has given you another season of all-star level of production up until this point.
February 21, 2008
Tim Duncan had another fantastic night almost recording a triple-double with 24 points, 14 rebounds and seven assists on Thursday night. He also blocked four shots for good measure. In each of the past six games Duncan has totaled at least 13 boards and for the month of February he is averaging 13.4 rebounds over eight games.
February 10, 2008
Tim Duncan scored 22 points, added 14 rebounds and dished six assists for the Spurs on Sunday. Duncan continues to do what he has always done and that is put up double-double with mind numbing consistency since he's only been doing it for 11 years now.
January 7, 2008
Tim Duncan banged knees with Corey Maggette late during Sunday's game. "It went numb for a little bit," Duncan said, according to the San Antonio Express. "It will probably swell up, but we'll see how it is tomorrow." He was hopeful about lacing up for Monday's run against the Warriors. It sounds like he didn't sustain anything serious.
