According to a report at ESPN.com, Lakers' coach Phil Jackson is close to announcing that he will return to the bench next season. The source believes that his return could be announced early next week.

Our View:This is not a 100 percent done deal, but it looks to be very close to it. With the recent signing of Ron Artest, the Lakers may be the favorites to repeat next season, and Phil isn't going to walk away from the talent on this team. We will keep you updated on his status.

According to the LA Times, Kobe Bryant is expected to sign a three-year extension with the Lakers sometime in the next month.

Our View:Kobe had an early termination clause in his contract, but chose not to exercise it. He looks to make almost $48 million over the next two years and could then get an addition $90 million with the extension. This will undoubtedly make Kobe an even richer and happier man, and the Lakers get to keep their superstar.

Kobe Bryant has opted against exercising an early termination option in his contract and will return to the Lakers for the 2009-10 campaign, according to ESPN.

Our View:The elite guard is slated to earn $23MM with Los Angeles next season, with the added perk of defending the NBA crown as champions.
