As expected, Theo Ratliff has signed a one-year deal with the Sixers worth $1.4 million, according to the AP. GM Ed Stefanski said, "We are fortunate to sign a player of Theo’s caliber. He is a consummate professional, both on the court and off, who will provide us with additional depth in the frontcourt while also serving as a mentor to some of our younger players."

Our View:His role will be favorable to the Sixers, but not for fantasy owners.

Theo Ratliff will sign with the Philadelphia 76ers, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. He is expected to receive the veteran's minimum, $1.4 million, for one season.

Our View:At this point, Ratliff is a back-up who carries little fantasy value, though he will certainly help the Sixers, who lost big man Jason Smith to a torn ACL.
August 17, 2008
With second-year big man Jason Smith likely out for the season after suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, an unsubstantiated report surfaced that the Sixers had reached out to former Sixers center/forward Theo Ratliff with an offer to play for the veterans' minimum, according to ESPN.com.

Our View:A source familiar with that situation said Ratliff had offers from other teams for more money, but that he was very interested in the Sixers. However, his desire to play and earn another opportunity (for more than league minimum) is his goal, and if he truly has other teams interested, he will have to weigh his options.
