Deron Williams is looking forward to the upcoming season and will be sporting a trimmer waistline, according to the Deseret News. "I've lost a lot since I've got back (from the Olympics), got in better shape ... ," he said. "Getting back to doing my muscle-activation stuff and massages — something I really didn't have over there — and I'm feeling a lot better. And losing the weight helps, too."

Our View:Look out, NBA. A slimmer Williams could mean even bigger things from the stud point guard.
July 18, 2008
The Utah Jazz and point guard Deron Williams have reached an agreement on a three-year contract extension, according to the Associated Press.

Our View:Williams, who still had one year left on the rookie contract he signed after the Jazz picked him third overall in the 2005 NBA draft, signed a three-year deal with a one year option. Terms of the contract were not released. Williams has career averages of 15.3 points, 8.1 assists and 2.9 rebounds while appearing in a total of 242 of a possible 246 career games, including all 82 during the 2007-08 regular season.
July 17, 2008
The Sports Ticker reports that the Utah Jazz agreed in principle to a contract extension with point guard Deron Williams , the team announced Thursday.

Our View:Williams is perhaps the second best fantasy point guard behind Chris Paul who announced an extension earlier this month.
July 15, 2008
Deron Williams is yet to ink an extension with the Jazz, but a deal could be done soon for him, according to the Deseret News. Williams hopes it will happen before Saturday, when he leaves Salt Lake City to join Team USA in advance of next month's Beijing Olympics. His agent (Bob McLaren) said, "Everybody's still working. Everybody's very committed to trying to put a deal together, and we're all working toward that end."

Our View:Williams and the Jazz won't disclose how much they are apart in dollars or years, but a maximum extension could pay Williams nearly $90 million and keep the talented point guard in Utah for another five years after the 2008-09 season.
July 10, 2008
Utah guard Deron Williams talked with reporters today and believes he and Jazz GM Kevin O'Connor are close to closing their negotiations for a contract extension, according to the Salt Lake Tribune.

Our View:Williams has been a true gift as the leader at the point for the Jazz, and as the Hornets did with Chris Paul, the desire to sign him to a long-term deal now presents a unique opportunity to keep Williams off the market in coming years while securing his services for a reasonable cost now. Williams has suggested the talks have revolved around a league-mandated max deal that would be worth about $90 million over five years, but Utah has never been an organization quick to spend such tall dollars. However, it seems reasonable to expect this deal to get done, and we believe that will happen over the next week or two. Stay tuned.
July 1, 2008
The Utah Jazz will attempt to lock up point guard Deron Williams to a long term deal, according to the Salt Lake Tribune. The paper reports negotiations will begin and Williams could receive as much as $90 million over five years.

Our View:This would obviously be a great move for the Jazz, as Williams continues to blossom into one of the best point guards in the NBA. He should only get better, and will be a top selection in fantasy basketball for the foreseeable future.

Deron Williams and Carlos Boozer have both been named to the US Olympic basketball team, according to ESPN.com.

Deron Williams had a strong outing in Friday's 108-105 loss to the Lakers as he generated 21 points, 14 assists, four boards, and one steal. Los Angeles won the series 4-2.

Our View:Utah's season is now over and Williams played hard until the final game, as he registered five double-doubles in the series, and just missed a sixth.
May 15, 2008
The Utah Jazz couldn't find the answer to the Lakers puzzle this evening, falling 111-107 in Game 5 of their Western Conference semifinal series. Team leader guard Deron Williams went 8-for-19 from the floor, 3-of-7 from three-point range, and 8-for-8 from the charity stripe to score a team-high 27 points, adding 10 assists and five rebounds to the effort.

Our View:Williams was strong but came up a bit short in leading his team to a road win. Now they must win two in a row to mover forward.
May 11, 2008
Deron Williams had 29 points and 14 assists as the Utah Jazz beat the Los Angeles Lakers 123-115 on Sunday, tying the Western Conference semifinals at 2-2.

Our View:Williams was terrific for most of the game, but in the fourth quarter, with less than two minutes remaining, seemed more concerned with killing clock rather than running the offense. The brain cramp resulted in the Lakers coming from back from a double-digit deficit and taking the game into overtime.
May 10, 2008
Deron Williams suffered a bruised and sore right hand and wrist during battle with the Lakers on Friday, according to the Deseret News. X-rays were negative and he is said to be good to go for Game 4.

Our View:He scored 18 points with 12 assists in Friday's win for Utah, and he is needed in Game 4 as Utah still trails 2-1 in the series with LA.
May 9, 2008
Deron Williams had 18 points and 12 assists as the Utah Jazz scored a 104-99 victory over Los Angeles on Friday night.

Our View:Williams was more aggressive in Game 3, and was able to get teammate Carlos Boozer (27 points) more involved in the offense.
May 8, 2008
The Utah Jazz watched each of the their starters and two of their reserve players post double-digit scoring totals, but the effort fell short as the Lakers now own a 2-0 series lead, putting a 120-110 win on the Jazz this evening. Utah PG Deron Williams led the team, shooting 9-of-17 from the floor, 5-of-5 from three-point range, and 2-of-2 from the charity stripe to score 25 points, adding 10 assists to the cause.

Our View:Williams has been the team's offensive catalyst all season long, but this game shows he is unable to do it alone.
May 7, 2008
Deron Williams averaged 10.5 assists per game during the regular season, but the Utah playmaker has not broken the double-digit mark in assists over his past four playoff contests. During that span his scoring is also down, including just one game of 20 points or more.

Our View:Williams is averaging 42.7 minutes per game, and it's likely wearing on the Jazz's floor general.
May 4, 2008
Deron Williams flirted with a triple-double in Sunday's Game 1 loss to the Lakers. The point guard managed 14 points, nine assists, and nine rebounds. Williams hit only 5 of his 18 shots, including 1-of-6 from beyond the arc.

Our View:It was a rare bad shooting night for Williams and a rare night on the boards. We're not surprised to see him contributing in other ways even when he shot isn't falling.
April 29, 2008
The Utah Jazz have been feasting on the Houston Rockets by utilizing the various skills of point guard Deron Williams, but it is easy to understand why the Jazz fell 95-69 to the Houston Rockets tonight in Game 5 of a series that now sits in favor of Utah by just one game, 3-2. Williams shot just 5-of-11 from the floor and 0-of-1 from the three-point line to score just 13 points, adding only six assists and three rounds with one steal to the stat line.

Our View:Williams has averaged nearly 22 points and nine assists per game in this series, but the Rockets put the defensive clamps on him and found a way to win.
April 27, 2008
The Utah Jazz have seized a dominating 3-1 lead over the Houston Raptors in the Western Conference playoffs, and the blame can be put squarely on the shoulder of point guard Deron Williams . In this series, Williams has shot 30-of-55 from the field, a whopping 54.5%, and has made 7-of-12 shots heaved from three-point range, averaging 21.8 points per game and 9.0 assists per game in the series.

Our View:Of course, having center Mehmet Okur average 13.3 rebounds per game is a huge advantage, but Williams is setting the pace and seems destined to push his teammates to the top of their game. The Jazz are one of the top teams in the league but are facing a rather daunting challenge for their existence in the West, a conference bloated with teams that could take the title. Deron Williams is the difference maker for this team and should serve as the defensive focus for teams that lie ahead.
April 25, 2008
Deron Williams had a great outing on Thursday despite the Jazz's loss to the Rockets 94-92. Williams had 28 points, including three 3-pointers, and 12 assists in the two point defeat.

April 21, 2008
Deron Williams had 22 points and five assists in the 90-84 Game 2 victory for the Jazz.

Our View:This wasn't quite as big a night as Williams had in Game 1, but after two playoff contests he is averaging 21 points and 7.5 assists, awfully close to his regular season numbers (18.8 and 10.5).
April 19, 2008
Deron Williams showed no ill effects from his injured backside as he played almost 44 minutes on Saturday night as he scored 20 points with 10 assists in Game 1.

Our View:So much for the Rockets getting a break from Williams because of injury. Williams lead the Jazz to a 1-0 lead in the series and will look to continue his 20 point, 10 assist ways moving forward.
April 18, 2008
Deron Williams, dealing with an injured tailbone, should be able to play in Game 1, this according to the Salt Lake City Deseret News. "I'm sure he'll probably be ready to play," head coach Jerry Sloan said. "He has a chance to kind of get some of the soreness out (with Thursday and Friday between games), but if not, we have to play anyway."

Our View:Williams is the best player on the squad and his health will go a long way to determining how they fare once the playoffs begin.
April 17, 2008
Deron Williams played only half of his clubs last game because of sore rear end, this according to the Salt Lake Tribune. "I'm definitely slowed down by it,'' Williams said. "It's hard to push off. I see openings and I can't get to them just because I can't push off, I can't explode like I'm used to. It definitely affects my game and affects my teammates because I can't push the ball like I normally do

Our View:Williams has been a stud all season with an average of 18.8 points and 10.5 assists a game, so if he continues to be limited by his injury it will have a huge effect on the Jazz ability to do anything on offense.
April 5, 2008
The score was the story of the evening, but Deron Williams did his part to help the cause and further his case as one of the two best guards in the NBA. Williams shot just 4-of-13 from the field but also went 2-of-4 from three-point range and a perfect 6-of-6 from the free-throw line to score 16 points, spiced with 11 assists in Utah's surprising 26-point win (90-64) over the San Antonio Spurs.

March 31, 2008

Deron Williams scored 14 points and dished off 14 assists in the Jazz's victory over the Pistons on Wednesday night. Williams, who is averaging 9.7 assists per game, had only 15 assists the past two games, so with 14 tonight he is averaging, you guessed it, 9.7 assists over the past three.
