Player Notes
November 19, 2008
Marvin Williams had a big night on Wednesday to follow an average one, picking up 21 points, 14 rebounds, four assists, two steals, and one block.

Our View:Williams is one of many reasons the Hawks ended their four-game skid on Wednesday. He could be a big reason for their success if he keeps this up the rest of the year.
November 18, 2008
Marvin Williams scored 14 for Atlanta on Tuesday. He also finished with four rebounds, two assists, and a steal.

Our View:Williams is owned in most fantasy leagues and continues to provide points and rebounds.
November 15, 2008
Marvin Williams had a decent effort for the Hawks on Saturday, finishing with 14 points and six rebounds.

Our View:These are both slightly above Williams' averages, but he isn't a great fantasy option at this point. He's available in about a quarter of leagues if you need some extra scoring or rebounding off of your bench.
November 12, 2008
Marvin Williams was a perfect 4-of-4 from three-point range as the Hawks fell 102-103 to the Celtics on Wednesday. He finished with 14 points and four rebounds. Last season, Williams hit just one trey, but he is 8-of-9 this season.

Our View:Williams' scoring has increased since Josh Smith has been out. Owners should look to move him shortly before Smith returns. If Williams is not scoring, he is not worth much to his owners.
November 9, 2008
Marvin Williams scored 16 points in the Hawks 89-85 victory over Oklahoma City on Sunday night. Flip Murray added 14 points with Mike Bibby contributing 13 in the win.

Our View:Williams entered the night scoring just nine points a game, well off his mark of 14.8 in 2007, so perhaps tonight's effort will jump start his scoring totals.
November 2, 2008
Marvin Williams returned from his one game suspension, but hit just one of his seven shots to finish with two points in 20 minutes.

Our View:Williams was not in foul trouble (he finished with none), he was just ineffective. Of all the Hawks, his numbers were the only to suffer after the arrival of Mike Bibby last season. He has never been a very good multi-category fantasy player, but he could be in line for a long season.
October 14, 2008
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that Marvin Williams was on the practice floor Tuesday morning, the day after having the thumb on his non-shooting hand stretched too far in a victory over Charlotte. Hawks coach Mike Woodson said Williams will not suit up for the exhibition game against Phoenix Wednesday at Philips Arena, but he said the decision is a precautionary measure only.

Our View:Williams does very little for your fantasy besides scoring, and that number dipped significantly after the acquisition of Mike Bibby last season.
October 13, 2008
Atlanta's Marvin Williams sprained his left (non-shooting) thumb in the team's exhibition win against the Bobcats, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Our View:There is no immediate word on the extent of the injury, or how long Williams may be out.
October 8, 2008
In 37 minutes Marvin Williams scored 19 points in the Hawks' 100-96 win over the Suns.

Our View:Some outsiders who have watched the Hawks believe that Williams might have a breakout type year. If that is true Williams might become a good option.
September 3, 2008
Multiple league insiders believe Marvin Williams will be a key factor for the Hawks in the 2008-09 season. If he can step up his game, the Hawks could be a strong contender in the East. "I’m not suggesting that Marvin needs to try and be something he’s not right now," one of the insiders tells the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "I’m only suggesting that he has to become more of a presence, more of a factor than he’s been in the past. He has to be a threat every night and not just every two or three games."

Our View:Don't misread what these insiders are saying. Joe Johnson, Josh Smith, Al Horford, and Mike Bibby are the Hawks best components, but these people see Williams as the "X" factor. The former second overall pick has made strides over his three seasons, and another jump forward is the issue. If that happens, Williams may turn into a much more useful fantasy player, too.

Marvin Williams was suspended for one game without pay because of the flagrant foul he committed on Celtics guard Rajon Rondo, according to the AP.

Our View:Williams will sit out game one next year of the regular season. After averaging 14.8 points and 5.7 rebounds this season, Williams' value won't suffer at all from missing just one game.
May 4, 2008
Marvin Williams has been ejected from Game 7 against Boston for committing a flagrant-two foul against Rajon Rondo, according to the AP. With just over nine minutes left in the third period, Williams clotheslined Rondo as the second-year point guard was going in for a layup. The referees reviewed the play on a video monitor and decided to throw Williams out of the game. Boston held a 33-point lead at the time of the infraction.

Our View:Williams was questionable to play due to his sprained left knee, and was better off just sitting out the game.
May 4, 2008
Marvin Williams will play in Game 7 against Boston on Sunday, according to the AP. Williams sprained his left knee with nine minutes left in the fourth quarter of Friday’s 103-100 Game 6 win. He went through a 30-minute workout during the Hawks’ walkthrough on Saturday but did not put much weight on the knee, which was heavily taped.

Our View:Williams averaged a career-high 14.8 points per game during the regular season, and scored 18 points in Game 6 before getting hurt against the Celtics.
May 3, 2008
Hawks forward Marvin Williams (knee) said he's ready to play in Game 7 of the first-round playoff series with Boston on Sunday afternoon, this according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "I'm good," Williams said Saturday afternoon. "I ready to go. This is Game 7, man. Nobody wants to miss Game 7 of anything." The team is calling his injury, a left knee strain.

Our View:Williams will play through the knee injury. Afterall, this is his chance to be part of an eight seed taking out a number-one seed, a once in a lifetime opportunity.
May 3, 2008
Atlanta forward Marvin Williams left last night's exciting win over the Boston Celtics, forcing a Game 7 in the opening-round NBA playoff series, with what appeared to be a left leg injury. Team doctors have reported their diagnosis as a strained left knee and his status for Sunday's final series game is listed as doubtful.

Our View:Williams left the game early in the 4th quarter, but he later returned in the final seconds for his defensive prowess. The listing of "doubtful" means little to nothing today, for the injury sounds minor and it is hard to imagine Williams won't be on the court for Game 7. We will update as news comes forth.
May 2, 2008
Marvin Williams led the Hawks in Friday's 1-3-100 victory over Boston with 18 points, despite missing most of the fourth quarter with a knee injury.

Our View:Williams' Game 7 status has yet to be determined.
April 15, 2008
Marvin Williams led the Hawks with 16 points on Tuesday night. The Hawks starting five took the floor for tonight's initial tip but none played significant minutes.

Our View: Williams averaged 34 minutes, nearly 15 points and six rebounds per game this season.
March 30, 2008
Marvin Williams led the Hawks with 27 points as they defeated the Knicks 114-109 on Sunday. He also recorded 11 boards, two assists, three steals, and two blocks. That was his second double-double in a row.
February 27, 2008
Marvin Williams will miss the Hawks games on Wednesday night due to the flu, this according to the AP. Williams, the second selection in the 2005 draft, has had a solid season averaging 15.6 points and 5.9 boards per game. Go with another option tonight.
February 3, 2008
Marvin Williams played through a sore leg during Saturday's game, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "I got kneed in the thigh against the Clippers," Williams said. "He got me pretty good, too. But I've got to play through this." Coach Mike Woodson said he might have to limit Williams' minutes to avoid aggravating the injury. However, Williams played 38 minutes Saturday and led all scorers in the game with 24 points, while adding seven boards and five dimes. Williams doesn't shoot triples, but he's an underrated fantasy option; the third-year player is shooting 48 percent from the field and takes a good number of free-throw attempts (6.5 per game), hitting them at an 81-percent clip.
