Player Notes
November 29, 2008
Dwight Howard had 32 points and 21 rebounds for the Magic on Saturday in leading them to a 110-96 victory over the Pacers. He also contributed three assists and five blocks for Orlando.

Our View:Howard's a monster in both fantasy and reality and has four consecutive double-doubles after Saturday's game.
November 27, 2008
Dwight Howard scored a game-high 26 points and 14 boards in Thursday's 105-90 win over the Wizards, to go along with two assists, one steal, and three blocks.

Our View:He also shot well from the free throw line, making 10-of-14 attempts. The elite center recorded his third straight double-double.
November 26, 2008
Dwight Howard led his team to a 96-94 win over Philadelphia by scoring 21 points with 14 rebounds and two blocks.

Our View:Howard also made 13 of the 18 free throws he attempted, which is a 72 percent mark - much higher than the 54 percent mark he had coming into the game.
November 26, 2008
Magic center Dwight Howard said he may not defend his title as slam dunk champion, which he earned last year, according to the AP.

Our View:Howard said he doesn't want to have a bad performance after doing so well last year, so he may quit while he's ahead.
November 24, 2008
Dwight Howard had another big game for the Magic, helping them defeat Milwaukee 108-101. He scored 24 points, pulled down 13 rebounds and blocked six shots.

Our View:It wasn't all good, as Howard was his typical self from the free-throw line, going 10-for-20. But otherwise, fantasy owners have little to complain about.
November 22, 2008
Dwight Howard battled early foul trouble and managed just 27 minutes as the Magic fell at home to the Rockets on Saturday. He finished with 13 points, nine rebounds and two blocks.

Our View:Howard has dealt with a few games like this lately and it is probably a result of him challenging more shots on the defensive end.
November 21, 2008
Dwight Howard recorded a double-double in Friday's 100-98 win over the Pacers, with 24 points and a game-high 17 rebounds. He also chipped in one assist, one steal and five blocks.

Our View:That marks his eighth double-double in November.
November 18, 2008
Dwight Howard scored 18 on Tuesday in addition to nine rebounds, three blocks, an assist, and a steal.

Our View:Howard's been doing more blocking than the St. Louis Rams' offensive line this year. He's a fantasy monster.
November 16, 2008
Magic center Dwight Howard battled foul trouble in the team's 90-85 win over Charlotte, and he scored just four points and grabbed seven rebounds while blocking five shots before fouling out.

Our View:This was not a great game for Howard, but he has been mostly brilliant (free-throw percentage aside) for fantasy owners this year, so certainly one poor game should be allowed every once in a while.
November 14, 2008
Dwight Howard continued to show why he's the NBA's top center, scoring 18 points and adding 13 rebounds, two assists, two blocks, and a steal on Friday night as the Magic outlasted the Mavericks 102-100.

Our View:Howard is averaging a double-double in points and rebounds while averaging over four blocks-per-game as well.
November 12, 2008
Dwight Howard had yet another monster game as the Magic defeated the Thunder 109-92 on Wednesday. The center finished with 30 points, 19 rebounds and 10 blocks in the win.

Our View:Howard is making a strong case to be the fantasy MVP this season and there have been few games this season, if any, that have been more dominating than this one. It should be noted that it came against sub-par competition.
November 12, 2008
Dwight Howard is nursing a swollen left knee but is probable for Wednesday's game against the Thunder, according to the Sports Network.

Our View:Howard is averaging 30 points over his last two games, and should be good to go tonight.
November 10, 2008
The NBA has been unable to find an answer for Dwight Howard. Against Portland on Monday, the center had 29 points and 19 rebounds.

Our View:He hit 13-of-20 free throws. He entered the game shooting 48.5 percent. He has 35 rebounds in the past two games.
November 8, 2008
Dwight Howard continues to put up big games. On Saturday, he had 31 points, 16 rebounds and three blocks as the Magic beat the Wizards 106-81. The big man shot 11-for-13 from the floor.

Our View:Howard is absolutely killing four categories and is one of the best players in all of fantasy, regardless of how terrible he is at the free throw line.
November 3, 2008
Dwight Howard was his usual beastly-self on Monday as Orlando defeated the Bulls 96-93 on Monday. He finished with 22 points, 15 rebounds and five blocks in the close victory.

Our View:Howard is averaging 4.5 blocks per game through his first four. He had previously pledged to lead the league in this category and he has not let his owners down to this point.
November 1, 2008
Dwight Howard scored 29 points and 14 boards in Saturday's 121-103 win over the Kings, to go along with two assists and five blocks. He shot 11-of-14 from the field.

Our View:He would have topped 30 points if he didn't miss five of 12 free throw attempts, which remains a weakness in his game.
October 31, 2008
Dwight Howard had 14 points, 14 rebounds and three blocks as the Magic fell on a last second shot to the Grizzlies 86-84 on Friday.

Our View:Howard took just nine shots in 38 minutes. He figures to be a bigger part of the offense on most nights.
October 29, 2008
Dwight Howard dominated despite his team's loss on Wednesday to the Hawks. He finished with 22 points, 15 rebounds, five blocks, and five steals.

Our View:Howard was exceptional on the defensive end as he pledged he would be in the preseason. He did have four turnovers and shot 6-for-13 from the free throw line, but most owners should be able to deal as long as he dominates the other categories.
October 20, 2008
Dwight Howard scored 29 points and added 11 rebounds, two blocks, and two steals in Monday's exhibition win over the Hawks. He hit 13-of-22 shots from the free-throw line.

Our View:When not trying to win $100,000 at McDonald's, Howard is dominating on the court. He looks ready for the regular season.
October 18, 2008
Dwight Howard racked up 26 points and 16 rebounds in Saturday's 100-92 preseason win over the Heat. He also recorded two assists, one steal, and three blocks. He played 34 minutes.

Our View:He would have topped 30 points, but only shot 6-of-13 from the foul line, which remains a weakness for him.
October 16, 2008
Dwight Howard played 28 minutes in Orlando's 94-84 win on Thursday. He finished with 15 points, eight rebounds, and two blocks.

Our View:He also shot 3-for-9 from the free throw line and made four turnovers. These two categories will haunt Howard's owners throughout the regular season.
October 10, 2008
Dwight Howard generated a game-high 28 points and 10 boards in Friday's 88-63 exhibition win over CSKA Moscow. He also chipped in five steals, one assist and one block.

Our View:He would have topped 30 points, but only managed to sink 8-of-13 free throws, which remains an area of work for him.
October 8, 2008
Dwight Howard continues to be a monster. In his second preseason game he scored 20 points, blocked five shots, and grabbed eight rebounds in 25 minutes. Perhaps most importantly for fantasy owners, he was 8-for-10 from the free throw line.

Our View:Howard now has 13 blocks in two preseason games and is 13-16 from the free throw line. The biggest knock on Howard regarding fantasy is that he shoots more free throws than any player in the league and makes just 60 percent of them. Should he be able to hit 70 percent or more this season, that would significantly up his value - perhaps to a Top 5 player.
October 6, 2008
Dwight Howard made six of nine shots on his way to 17 points and five rebounds for the Magic on Monday night. On the defensive side of the ball, Howard blocked eight shots to match his regular season best.

Our View:Few players, if any, can match the sheer magnitude of the physical gifts that Howard possesses. He is one of the top centers in all of fantasy.
August 18, 2008
Dwight Howard led Team USA to a 106-57 win over Germany in the Olympics, according to ESPN. Howard scored 22 points with 10 boards in the contest.

Our View:Team USA improves to 5-0 in Beijing. The German team, led by Dirk Nowitzki, has lost four straight.
July 15, 2008
Dwight Howard noted he feels no lingering effects from the slightly fractured sternum he sustained in the playoffs, and he expects to be fully healthy next week when he reports to training camp for Team USA’s Olympic basketball team, according to Florida Today.

Our View:Tyson Chandler would have filled his spot on Team USA if needed, but it looks like Howard will be fine and set to compete for the gold medal.
June 29, 2008
Dwight Howard did not practice in the Team USA minicamp in Las Vegas as he is still healing from a cracked sternum sustained in the playoffs, according to the LA Times.

Our View:He expects to be ready for the start of the Olympics, and is notably the only center on the team.
June 2, 2008
The Magic have inked general manager Otis Smith to a three-year contract extension, the Orlando Sentinel reports. The deal includes a team option for a fourth season.

Our View:The Magic have been on the rise since Smith took over in 2005, so this news isn't too surprising. Smith will have a busy offseason, though, as seven Magic players are headed to free agency.
May 13, 2008
Six of the players from the Orlando Magic posted double-digit scoring totals this evening, but none managed to crack the 20-point benchmark as the team fell short in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference semifinal series, losing to Detroit 91-86. Team leader center Dwight Howard shot just 4-of-8 from the field and a disappointing 6-of-15 from the free-throw line to score a lowly 14 points, and while he added 17 rebounds and three blocked shots to the effort, it was well short of the team's needs.

Our View:Now their season is done as the Pistons have taken the series 4-1, and Howard can start to think about next season.
May 13, 2008
Orlando has won four of the five times that center Dwight Howard has scored at least 20 points.

Our View:They are 1-3 when Superman scores under 20.
May 10, 2008
The Detroit Pistons found their defense to be as effective as needed, putting the clamps on team leader Dwight Howard . The Orlando center shot just 3-of-12 from the field and garnered just one trip to the free-throw line (going 2-for-2) to score a paltry 8 points, dropping in a hard-fought 90-89 loss to the Detroit Pistons.

Our View:Howard added 12 rebounds, but the story is the decisive 3-1 series lead the Pistons now hold in the Eastern Conference semifinal series. Howard is the crutch of this team. Scoring eight is unacceptable.
May 8, 2008
Dwight Howard has earned First-Team All-NBA honors, according to the Boston Globe. He led the NBA in rebounding with 14.2 per contest, and also averaged 20.7 points, 1.3 assists, and 2.1 blocks.

Our View:Howard also led the NBA with 69 double-doubles, including eight 20-20 games. Howard led the Magic to its first division title since 1995-96, even more importantly.
May 7, 2008
The Orlando Magic earned their first win over Detroit in the NBA playoffs this evening, and as we have come to expect, center Dwight Howard played a major role in the effort. Howard shot 8-of-13 from the field and 4-of-7 from the free-throw line to score 20 points, adding 12 rebounds and a whopping six blocked shots to put the Magic in the win column for the first time in this series.

Our View:Now the Magic aim to tie the series, currently led by Detroit at 2-1.
May 7, 2008
The Magic are still firing away from the perimeter. In fact, the way Orlando will get back in the Round 2 series is all about their outside game. Despite the presence of the NBA's best interior player in Dwight Howard, the Magic continue to be committed to a perimeter approach that is hurting them. Orlando has launched 41 three-point attempts over the first two games, hitting just 13 of them (31.7 percent).

Our View:Orlando lives and dies with the three-pointer, and lately they've been dying by ReShard Lewis' inaccuracy. In this series he is a dismal 2-for-12 from behind the 3-point arc. Moreover, Lewis has taken a ridiculous 52 shots from three-land (out of his 122 total shots from the field) and has hit only 12 of them, a dismal 23.1 percent.
May 6, 2008
The Magic's flight from Detroit to Orlando was diverted because of a mechanical problem, according to ESPN. Team spokesman Joel Glass says the plane landed in Cincinnati as a precaution late Monday. The Magic were trying to return home after a 100-93 loss to the Pistons in Game 2. No one was injured, the plane was serviced and the team spent the night in Cincinnati. The coaches and players were boarding Tuesday morning to return home.

Our View:The team is already down 2-0, and now they had to deal with this distraction.
May 5, 2008
Dwight Howard lead the Magic with 22 points and 18 rebounds on Monday night, but it wasn't enough as the Pistons defeated the Pistons by the score of 100-93.

Our View:Howard didn't seem bothered by a left-thumb injury he suffered in the team's Game 1 loss. The Pistons took a 2-0 lead in the second-round series.
May 5, 2008
Detroit took over Game 1 in the third quarter, when they finally realized that with Orlando's long range shooting coming up empty they could keep ratcheting up their physicality in the paint. Expect the Bad Boys to continue body up Dwight Howard , who finished with just 12 points and eight rebounds.

Our View:Howard had been having a slow night even before he left the game with a hand injury, an ailment that won't be ignored by the Detroit big men on Monday night.
May 4, 2008
Dwight Howard suffered a bruised left thumb in Saturday’s Game 1 loss to the Pistons, according to the AP. He sustained the injury when trying to haul in a rebound, and was accidently hit by Theo Ratliff. Howard said, "It’s fine. It’s just a bruised thumb. I’ll be all right."

Our View:X-rays showed no serious damage, and he is expected to be ready for Game 2 on Monday. The Pistons are one of the most physical teams in the NBA, and Howard was bound to get banged up in the heated playoff series.
April 28, 2008
Dwight Howard scored 21 points as the Orlando Magic finished off the Toronto Raptors 102-92 on Monday night. Howard also added 21 rebounds, the third time the Magic All Star has recorded a game with at least 20 points and 20 rebounds in the series.

Our View:The Monday night win allowed Orlando a 4-1 series win offering the club additional days off heading into round two against the winner of the Detroit-Philadelphia series, with is tied at 2-2.
April 26, 2008
Dwight Howard had 19 points, 16 boards and eight blocks as the third seeded Magic took a commanding 3-1 lead in the best of seven series with a 106-94 win over the Raptors.

Our View:Howard and the Magic look to close out the first-round series as the host of Game 5 in Orlando on Monday night.
April 24, 2008
Dwight Howard had his normal double-double with 19 points and 12 boards, but he failed to block a shot and turned the ball over six times in an uneven performance.

Our View:Howard is the key to what the Magic are trying to do, and when he plays like the all-star he is, more often than not, they win. Tonight he didn't bring his "A" game, and predictably they lost.
April 22, 2008
Dwight Howard had another 20-20 performance in Tuesday's win over the Raptors. The big man poured in 29 points, grabbed 20 rebounds, and added in one assists, one steal, and three blocks. He became the first player since Nate Thurmond in 1969 to managed a 20-20 line in two straight playoff games, according to the AP.

Our View:The Raptors simply have nobody who can body up with the imposing Howard. Management may want to think about adding some frontcourt muscle this offseason.
April 20, 2008
Dwight Howard led the Magic to a convincing 114-100 win over the Raptors in Game 1 of the playoffs on Sunday, as he generated a game-high 25 points and 22 boards, with one steal, two assists, and five blocks.

Our View:Howard averaged 20.7 points and 14.2 boards in the regular season, and is off to a great start in the playoffs.
April 13, 2008
Dwight Howard was able to work on his free-throw shooting on Sunday. He shot the ball only four times against the Bulls, but he made it to the charity stripe 17 times, making 13. Howard sat out the final quarter.

Our View:The studly big man shouldn't need any more practice after making it to the line 11 times per game this year. Sadly, he still hits around 59 percent.
April 11, 2008
The Orlando Magic lost in disappointing fashion, 102-101 to the Minnesota Timberwolves, but the failure is not due to phenom center Dwight Howard . Howard went 8-of-13 from the field and 4-of-9 from the free-throw lie to score 20 points with 14 total rebounds and four assists to work as one of few players of note in this troubling loss.
April 9, 2008
Dwight Howard had 30 points and pulled down 14 rebounds as the Orlando Magic beat the Chicago Bulls 115-83 Wednesday night. Howard played with six stitches in his upper lip, the result of a collision in practice Tuesday with 6-foot-11 reserve Marcin Gortat. Howard recorded his NBA-leading 67th double-double, one short of Shaquille O'Neal's franchise record from the 1992-93 season.
April 5, 2008
Dwight Howard had one of his worst games of the season on Saturday as he scored a measly four points on 1-for-8 shotting for the Magic. Howard still contributed on the boards with 12, but when you score as many points as Adonal Foyle and fail to block a shot, you have to expect us to call you out Mr. Howard.
April 1, 2008
Dwight Howard was as efficient as ever in the Magic’s 97-98 loss to the New Orleans Hornets this evening, going 7-of-9 from the field and 3-of-5 from the free-throw line to finish with 17 points with an impressive 15 rebounds (all on the defensive end of the floor). Howard’s recent improvements at the charity stripe are both refreshing and somewhat alarming. If he keeps it up, his fantasy value will skyrocket next season.
March 29, 2008
Dwight Howard , after a few games of disappointing consequence, is starting to round back into form. Last night, he led the Orlando Magic to a much-needed 103-86 win over the Milwaukee Bucks, going 7-of-12 from the field and a surprising 11-of-14 from the free-throw line to score 25 points with 11 total rebounds. Over his past two games, Howard has shot a combined 17-of-30 from the field (56.7%) and 15-of-22 from the charity stripe (68.2%), touting 49 combined points and 32 combined rebounds. Fantasy owners were growing worried, but it appears that he is not only improving his normally-high scoring and rebounding totals, but his work at the free-throw line is nothing short of refreshing. That number has long been one of few points of negative connotation for the best big man in the NBA, and it appears (at least in the short term) he is getting much better.
March 22, 2008
In a disappointing effort for the big man, Dwight Howard scored just 11 points in Orlando’s 90-98 loss to Atlanta. Howard swiped 16 rebounds off the glass to ease the pain for some fantasy owners, but the notable lack of scoring in recent weeks is a major concern. Howard has just 27 COMBINED points in his last three games. He consistently grabs double-digit rebounds, but the scoring has got to improve.
March 19, 2008
The one-point loss was frustrating enough for Magic fans, falling to the Wizards 86-87, but watching the team's young phenom and leader flounder on offense was much more troubling. Dwight Howard failed to make a mark, going just 1-of-6 from the floor to end with three points. The 14 rebounds curbs the pain a bit for fantasy owners, but the inability to get going on offense is a rare sore spot on Howard's resume this season.
March 17, 2008
Dwight Howard led the Magic with 23 points and 13 rebounds in their 104-90 win over the Cavs. He also had two assists, two blocks, and a steal. That was his 14th double-double in a row.
March 14, 2008
Dwight Howard is expected to play Friday against what's left of the Heat's lineup, according to the Orlando Sentinel. The big fella missed practice Thursday with a bruised right thigh. If only he could hit a free throw, he'd be the best fantasy center out there.
March 12, 2008
Dwight Howard's magic season continues, posting his 57th double-double of the year with 22 points and 13 rebounds against the Clippers with a 110-88 win. Howard has been an absolute stud this season, the top big man in the game. Those fantasy owners that made the leap of faith on draft day have been fully rewarded for their dedication, and the sky is the limit from here.
March 10, 2008
Dwight Howard did his best Superman impression on Monday night as he scored a team-high 26 points while grabbing 16 boards for the Magic. Though they only won the game by 11 points, when Howard was on the court the Magic outscored the Hawks by 23 points.
March 8, 2008
Despite a troubling loss to the Golden State Warriors (104-95), Dwight Howard did his best to keep the Magic in the hunt, scoring 26 points with 12 rebounds and five blocks. Howard ranks as the best young big man in the league and these numbers, while nice, could be viewed as a bit disappointing from a fantasy aspect. The kid can do so much that anything less than excellence is a surprise.
March 5, 2008
Leading the Magic to a dominating 122-92 victory over the Wizards, Dwight Howard scored 20 points with 11 rebounds, according to the Associated Press. As fantasy owners with Howard in tow know, it's just another night at the office for the league's best up-and-coming big man.
March 1, 2008
Dwight Howard had 26 points and 22 rebounds as the Orlando Magic beat the New York Knicks 118-92 on Saturday night. Howard and the Magic took full advantage of the inactive Zach Randolph and attacked the paint.
February 22, 2008
Dwight Howard, aka Superman, scored 24 points and hauled in 18 boards on Friday night. Howard was 9-for-12 from the field with three blocks on defense as he continues to prowl the key in search of dunks and blocks.
February 17, 2008
Dwight Howard had a great night with 16 points, nine rebounds, three assists and three steals for the East in the All-Star game. Howard was a perfect 7-for-7 from the field.
February 17, 2008
Dwight Howard won the All-Star dunk contest on Saturday night. Howard opened with a perfect 50, but it wasn't his most memorable effort of the night. He later took off from near the free-throw line while donning a Superman outfit and performed a tricky slam that involved a bounce and a tap off the backboard. "I think the dunk contest is back," Howard tells the AP.
February 13, 2008
Dwight Howard, fresh off accepting the scorn of his coach, took out his anger on the Nuggets on Wednesday night scoring 23 points with 24 rebounds, nine on the offensive glass. Not many players can average 20.8 points and 11.0 rebounds over six games and be considered to be in a mild slump. Howard emphatically put an end to that talk tonight.
February 12, 2008
Magic coach Stan Van Gundy said he and Dwight Howard have "a little bit of conflict" that finally resulted Monday in the coach benching Howard for a two-minute stretch of a fairly tight game in the fourth quarter after the center said something he didn't like. Van Gundy wouldn't elaborate on what exactly was said. "That's going to be between Dwight and I, but his focus isn't where it needs to be," Van Gundy told the Orlando Sentinel. "I don't think right now we're on the same page, to be quite honest."
