With top pick Derrick Rose added at guard in Chicago, the Bulls are reportedly wasting no time in building the rest of the roster around their new leader, and that doesn't necessarily mean a trade, according to the Chicago Sun Times. General manager John Paxson spoke with reporters and, in closing, noted the team would be signing several new assistant coaches for head coach Vinny Del Negro and will also be meeting with the agents for guard Ben Gordon and forward Luol Deng to discuss contract terms.

Our View:In other words, Kirk Hinrich... it was nice knowing you. The addition of Rose only adds to an already-large group of guards in Chicago, and at this point the Bulls are ready to commit to Gordon as the man to keep as the potential running mate for Rose. It makes sense as Hinrich, a questionable shooter and much better suited for the point, is going to carry reasonable value on the market as Gordon sits much better in the shooting guard role. We will update as the team works to get a deal done.

New reports are surfacing out of Chicago that indicate recent assertions that Doug Collins is all but signed as the new coach should be labeled as erroneous, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Our View:Sources close to the team indicate the job remains open and that general manager John Paxson still had other candidates in mind as potential hires. That source has told the Tribune that there is one definitive favorite, a veteran coach with proven NBA experience, on the radar, but that source failed to disclose the name of that potential candidate. In fact, the Tribune reports Paxson has not recommended to team Chairman Jerry Reinsdorf that negotiations with Collins commence, a benchmark the Bulls did enter with newly-hired New York coach Mike D'Antoni. We will update as news becomes available.

The Bulls have settled on Doug Collins to be their new head coach, the Chicago Tribune reports. The TNT analyst previously coached the Bulls (1986-89), Pistons (1995-98), and Wizards (2001-03) and piled up a 332-287 record. Current Bulls GM John Paxson was a part of those Bulls clubs.

Our View:This choice feels uninspiring. We thought Paxson might tip his draft hand when he announced the new coach, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Collins did a heckuva job raising Kwame Brown when the Wizards drafted the young big man, so the Bulls might want to go with Derrick Rose.
