Yao Ming is expected to miss at least the next six weeks with a fracture of the bone just below his right knee, according to the Houston Chronicle. Just another in a long list of major injuries in the NBA this week. "It's a non-displaced fracture, so nothing is way out of the way or out of whack," Rockets trainer Keith Jones said. "It's just a fracture line in there. We think he'll do well with just rest. An option would be to do something surgical, but we're hoping that won't need to be done."

Yao Ming practiced yesterday for the first time since having the nail removed from his troublesome left big toe last week, according to the Houston Chronicle. Yao Ming will be sidelined for another week to 10 days due to a troublesome left big toe, according to the Houston Chronicle. "I'm told not to be concerned, but every time something happens, it's a longer prognosis than the previous one," coach Jeff Van Gundy said. "We're hoping for the best, certainly. But anyone who is not concerned, anyone who does not have their antenna up, is not seeing the totality of the problem." Last season, Ming missed 21 games due to an infection that required surgery.
October 7, 2006
Yao Ming missed practice yesteday and will remain out today due to a bruised left toe, according to the Houston Chronicle. Coach Jeff Van Gundy blames Yao's shoes for still aggravating the toe that was surgically repaired in December. "Last year started the same way," said Van Gundy. "We never got it right, and ultimately he had to have surgery. Anybody who dismisses this as something minor is overlooking the bigger problem. Why does this continue to happen? Why don't we solve this issue yet?" No need to drop him in drafts yet, though that could change if the toe continues to be a problem throughout the preseason.
