Pau Gasol scored 19 points with five boards and an assist as he led Spain to a close 91-86 win over Lithuania in the Olympics. Rudy Fernandez chipped in 18 points.

Our View:Spain was outrebounded 34-to-33 and shot for a lower percentage, but managed to pull out the win. Spain has clinched a spot in the gold-medal game, and will now await the winner of the contest between the United States and Argentina.
August 20, 2008
Pau Gasol led Spain to a 72-59 win over Croatia in the Olympics. Gasol scored a game-high 20 points with 10 boards, two assists, three blocks, and one steal. Juan Calderon chipped in 10 points.

Our View:Spain has only lost one game, and joins the United States as the only two teams with winning records in Group B.
August 13, 2008
Pau Gasol and his teammates on Spain's basketball team are taking heat for a promotional picture they shot that shows the whole team using their fingers to make their eyes look more Asian. The team apparently did not believe they did anything wrong, but are now apologizing, according to the AP. "I'm sorry if anybody thought or took it the wrong way and thought that it was offensive," Gasol said.

Our View:It is easy to see how the photo could come across as the Spanish team mocking the Chinese, and it was not a wise thing to do. However, the team's apology has seemed to be accepted, and most are moving on, lesson having been learned.
August 12, 2008
Pau Gasol had a big game, but it nearly wasn't enough as Spain defeated host China 85-75. Gasol scored 29 points and snared eight rebounds while blocking three shots.

Our View:Spain was down 13 in the fourth quarter before making a comeback. It would have been a monumental upset, but they found a way to pull it out.
June 15, 2008
Pau Gasol helped keep the Lakers alive as he notched a double-double in Sunday's 103-98 win over the Celtics in Game 5. He scored 19 points and 13 boards, with six assists, one steal, and two blocks. The Lakers climbed back into the series at 3-2.

Our View:He reached his highest rebounding and scoring total of the series tonight, and will have to stay hot in Game 6 if the Lakers are to have a chance to tie the series at 3-3.
June 13, 2008
The Boston Globe reports that Lakers cancelled their Friday practice a day after lossing a 24-point lead in Game 4 of the NBA finals. Head coach Phil Jackson said he sent the players home after a brief get-together that included watching some of Thursday night's debacle against the Boston Celtics. "I told them that the series is not over and we want to force the action," said Jackson, whose opportunity for an NBA-record 10th championship ring as a head coach appears to be slipping away -- at least for now.

Our View:The Celtics lead the 7-game series 3-1 and Game 5 will happen Sunday, Fathers Day, at the Staples Center.
June 11, 2008
Pau Gasol had his worst game of the Finals in Game 3 but the Lakers were still able to pull out the victory. Gasol shot just 3-for-9 and finished with nine points and 12 rebounds. He finished the game strong by scoring five points and grabbing six rebounds in the final seven minutes.

Our View:The Spaniard showed his will to win at the end but was a non-factor most of the game. Expect him to return to his usual production in Games 4 and 5.
June 8, 2008
The Lakers have fallen to a 2-0 deficit in the NBA Finals, falling 108-102 to Boston this evening. Center Pau Gasol shot a strong 8-of-12 from the floor but got to the free-throw line just once and struggled to do work on the defensive end, scoring 17 points with 10 rebounds in a lackluster double-double effort.

Our View:Gasol needs to step it up and show why he's regard as a top NBA talent if the Lakers are going to get back on track. Heading back to LA, look for Gasol to step it up.
June 7, 2008
Pau Gasol had a nice Game 1 with 15 points, eight boards and four assists, but he will look to get more involved in the Lakers and Celtics Finals matchup moving forward, according to the Associated Press. “We want to make sure we establish a post presence and play inside-out a little bit more,” he said. “I think that’s going to help our offense and hopefully also give me a little more (room) in the lane and being aggressive, force them to play a little defense on me.”

Our View:Gasol is key to help force the likes of Kevin Garnett to exude a bit more effort on defense. Hopefully a little better work in the post for Gasol will also open things up a bit more for Kobe Bryant to find some open looks.
June 5, 2008
Pau Gasol scored 15 points with eight rebounds and four assists in the Lakers Game 1 Finals loss to the Celtics. Lamar Odom added 14 points and six rebounds in support.

Our View:It's not like Kevin Garnett went wild, he only scored 24 points, but it's pretty clear that Gasol doesn't have the quickness to shut down Garnett if he has to guard him 1-on-1. Gasol wasn't bad on the night, but he will need to be better.
May 30, 2008
Pau Gasol scored only 12 points on 5-for-15 shooting, but the big news was the fact that he pulled down 19 boards, dished out five assists and blocked four shots as the Lakers advanced to the NBA Finals.

Our View:When Gasol joined the Lakers they really took off, and he, Kobe and Lamar Odom form a formidable threesome that would likely provide some great action if they were to face off against the Celtics and their big three in the Finals.
May 26, 2008
Pau Gasol scored 15 points in Sunday's 103-84 loss to the Spurs. He also registered five boards and one assist.

Our View:That tied his second lowest rebounding effort of the playoffs. The Lakers still lead the series 2-1, and he should bounce back.
May 24, 2008
Pau Gasol was held to 10 points and seven rebounds on Friday night as he took only nine shots against the Spurs.

Our View:Everyone lays an egg at some point, and Gasol picked a good night for his with the rest of his mates playing so well. Expect a rebound in Game 3.
May 22, 2008
Pau Gasol chipped in 19 points and seven boards in Wednesday's 89-85 win over the Spurs in Game 1. He also made three assists, two steals, and two blocks.

Our View:Gasol is off to a solid start in the Western Conference Finals. He is averaging 19.9 points through the playoffs.
May 21, 2008
Pau Gasol will guard Tim Duncan in the Western Conference Finals against the Spurs, as long as the Lakers star stays out of foul trouble. The two big men often didn't guard each other when Gasol was with the Grizzlies. "Without a doubt, (Gasol) is going to have to play (Duncan)," head coach Phil Jackson tells the Los Angeles Daily News. "They'll see what it's like, they'll test it out early and they'll see whether they can create a foul situation, that's not unusual in that situation. We'll probably do the same thing."

Our View:We'll see how long this matchup lasts on both sides. This is where the Lakers obviously miss Andrew Bynum, as the big fella could have used some of his six to bang Duncan.
May 17, 2008
Pau Gasol registered a double-double in Friday's 108-105 win over Utah in series ending Game 6, as he scored 17 points with 13 boards. He also blocked four shots.

Our View:That was his third double-double of the series, and proved to be a key ingredient for the Lakers as they reached the Western Conference Finals.
May 8, 2008
The Lakers have seized a stronghold in their continued efforts for an NBA title, taking a definitive 2-0 lead in their series over the Utah Jazz with a 120-110 win in Game 2 this evening. Lakers center Pau Gasol contributed nicely to the effort, going 6-of-11 from the field and 8-of-12 from the free-throw line to score 20 points, adding five rebounds, five assists, and a whopping five blocked shots in the win.

Our View:Gasol has been the key addition for a team now starting to take form as a dominating presence in these playoffs. His offensive skills are renown and obvious, but he's also contributing on defense and that should have fans excited.
May 4, 2008
Pau Gasol played the perfect No. 2 in the Lakers' win over the Jazz on Sunday. The center finished with 18 points, 10 rebounds, five assists, and two blocks. He shot 8-of-13 from the floor.

Our View:Gasol's overall numbers didn't change much after moving over from the Grizzlies, with the exception of shooting percentage. He is taking advantage of being a secondary option.
April 24, 2008
Kobe Bryant was the story of the evening, for obvious reasons, but the offerings of center Pau Gasol should not be overlooked as the Lakers put a win on the board, beating the Nuggets 107-122 to take a commanding 2-0 lead in the series. Gasol shot 6-of-11 from the field and 6-of-10 from the free-throw line to score 18 points, adding 10 rebounds, three assists, and a blocked shot to the stat line.

Our View:Having Gasol there makes a 49-point night by Kobe that much easier. Spreading the wealth allows the man to do work and find comfort where it is available, rather than forcing shots that aren't there and find comfort in areas it is not available.
April 20, 2008
Pau Gasol established playoff highs with 36 points and eight helpers in Sunday's home win over the Denver Nuggets. Gasol added 16 rebounds as well as the Los Angeles Lakers beat the Nuggets 128-114.

Our View:Gasol, a 27-year-old center acquired from Memphis this winter after spending 6 1/2 seasons with the Grizzlies, was 0-12 in three previous postseasons.
April 12, 2008
In a game that could mean the difference in playoff opponent and seeding, the Lakers must be happy to pick up the home win over the New Orleans Hornets, 104-107, and Pau Gasol did his part in getting the W on the books. Gasol shot 9-of-12 from the field and a perfect 7-of-7 from the free-throw line to close with 25 points, six rebounds, three assists, and two blocked shots on the evening. Having Gasol back healthy means the world to this Laker team and makes them a prohibitive favorite to battle for the West and NBA Titles.
April 4, 2008
Pau Gasol felt good enough to practice on Thursday, one day after returning from a left ankle sprain. "I think he looked great," Kobe Bryant tells the Los Angeles Times about Wednesday's game. Gasol and the Lakers face the Mavericks on Friday night. The big man says there is some lingering soreness in the ankle.
April 3, 2008
Pau Gasol returned from a nine-game absence on Wednesday, and scored 10 points, six boards, seven assists, one steal, and one block. He was previously out with an ankle injury and this was a solid return for him.
April 1, 2008
The Lakers are reportedly expecting forward/center Pau Gasol to return to action on the hardwood on Wednesday, according to the LA Times. Gasol has been out for the bulk of the last month, missing the last nine games for the Lakers, and the team has struggled without him (going 5-4). Getting him back in action will boost Kobe and get the team back in positive momentum heading towards the playoffs.
March 28, 2008
Pau Gasol could be ready to return on Sunday, according to the LA Times. "I'll just wait until probably Saturday to go through a full practice, see how it feels," Gasol said. The "it" to which he referred is his sprained left ankle, which has sidelined him for the past seven games.
March 27, 2008
The Los Angeles Times reports that center Pau Gasol may not be ready to return to action Friday against the Grizzlies after all, mostly due to swelling and soreness in his injured left ankle. He has missed seven games to the problem. The Lakers will have to go small for a while longer using a combination of Ronny Turiaf, Vladimir Radmanovic, and D.J. Mbenga up front.
March 26, 2008
Pau Gasol won't play Wednesday and isn't expected to return to action on Friday, the Los Angeles Times reports. He has missed six straight games due to a left ankle sprain.
March 23, 2008
Lakers coach Phil Jackson told the Lakers' television network on Sunday, he expects Pau Gasol to return sometime this week, perhaps as soon as Wednesday night against Charlotte. The Lakers desperately need their big man back. They have struggled and returned to relying on too much perimeter play.
March 21, 2008
Coach Phil Jackson doesn't expect Pau Gasol to play for at least three more games, according to the LA Times. Gasol has missed the last three games with a sprained left ankle. "I'm not putting a timetable on this," Jackson said before Thursday's game. "I don't anticipate probably in these next four games that he will play, but if he does, so much the better." This means we shouldn't expect to see Gasol until at least next Wednesday. We'll update you on his progress.
March 18, 2008
Pau Gasol took part in the team shoot around on Monday, but has been ruled out for the Tuesday and Thursday games, according to the Los Angeles Daily News. The Lakers lack an inside presence without Bynum and Gasol -- and will again depend on 40-point performances from Kobe to win.
March 16, 2008
An MRI taken Saturday revealed that Pau Gasol has a moderately sprained ankle, according to the LA Times. "Pau's out for sure for the Houston game (Sunday), most likely out for the rest of the trip, but we don't really want to say that for sure," Lakers spokesman John Black said. "He'll be reevaluated in two or three days. It's not great, but it's not horrible." He likely will miss at least the final three games of their current road trip, but when exactly he's ready for action again will depend on how the joint responds to treatment.
March 15, 2008
Pau Gasol will miss at least the next three games due to the sprained ankle he sustained during Friday's game, according to the LA Times. The Lakers will have a more specific timetable for his return after he undergoes an MRI Saturday.
March 14, 2008
Lakers center Pau Gasol sprained his left ankle with 9 minutes 27 seconds left in the first quarter tonight against the New Orleans Hornets and will not return to the game, according to the LA Times. Gasol was away from the ball when he was injured, but he appeared to get tangled with Hornets center Tyson Chandler while moving down the lane. X-rays were negative. Gasol was averaging 19.9 points and 8.3 rebounds in 18 games with the Lakers before tonight's contest against the Hornets.
March 9, 2008
Pau Gasol had a great night despite suffering a heartbreaking one point loss to the Kings as he generated 25 points, seven rebounds, nine assists, and one steal. He unfortunately had four turnovers as well, which will always haunt you in close games like this one.
February 24, 2008
Pau Gasol scored 23 points, pulled down five rebounds, dished out six assists and added three blocked shots in the Lakers 113-95 win over the Los Angeles Clippers on Saturday night. Gasol fell short of his season rebound average but with five Los Angeles players pitching in double-digit points, the Lakers only needed 33 minutes for their big man.
February 20, 2008
Pau Gasol scored 23 points on Tuesday night as the Los Angeles Lakers beat the Atlanta Hawks 122-93. It was Gasol's first game at the Staples Center.
February 11, 2008
Pau Gasol scored 26 points on Monday night in support of Kobe Bryant's 31 as the Lakers defeated the Bobcats 106-97. Gasol was ultra-efficient with nine baskets on just 11 shots. After scoring at an 18.5 pace in Memphis, Gasol has picked up his game in LA scoring 104 points in five games (20.8) . Even more noteworthy is the fact that his new nickname could be dead eye since he has shot the rock at a 61.5% clip in the purple and yellow.
February 10, 2008
Pau Gasol shot 4-for-10 from the field and finished with 12 points and 7 rebounds during Sunday's win in Miami. He added two assists and a steal in a less than stellar performance.
February 8, 2008
Although he hasn't missed a game since joining the Lakers, Pau Gasol still is dealing with soreness in his back, according to the LA Times. He said he plans to play in the final four games before the All-Star break, then take advantage of the hiatus to rest up. Keep him in your lineups.
February 6, 2008
Pau Gasol made only five of 14 shots for 12 points on Wednesday night in his second game with the Lakers. This wasn't as impressive as his Tuesday-night debut (24 points, 12 rebounds and four assists), but the talented Gasol will have many monster games for the Lakers.
February 5, 2008
Pau Gasol started for the Lakers in his debut with the team on Tuesday. He played 35 minutes and abused the ghost-like Nets' frontcourt for 24 points, 12 boards and four assists, while hitting 10 of his 15 field-goal attempts. He looked at ease, as his teammates went out of their way to work him into the offense. He dunked, hit some jumpers and crashed the boards, just like you'd expect. The future is suddenly very bright in Los Angeles, where Gasol should continue to be a fantasy stud.
February 5, 2008
Pau Gasol is expected to make his Lakers debut tonight against the Nets. He's missed four of the last five games with a back injury but said he's feeling better. "It's getting there, good enough to perform well," Gasol said in the LA Times. "I have it under control. I'm working hard with the trainers and physical therapists, and it's looking good."
February 3, 2008
As expected, Pau Gasol didn't make his debut with the Lakers on Sunday. He took some shots prior to their hardcourt run with the Wiz but didn't suit up. Gasol's still nursing a sore back and wanted to settle in a bit before joining his new teammates for game action. Tuesday against the Nets sounds likely, though.
February 3, 2008
Although Pau Gasol passed his physical Saturday, he said he probably won't play on Sunday, according to the LA Times. He's still nursing a sore back and would like to get a little practice in before hitting the court in the triangle offense. "It's just getting to know everybody and getting adjusted," he said. It's been a whirlwind couple of days for Gasol, so the Lakers will probably give him a break to get his head straight and aim for his debut on Tuesday against the Nets.
February 2, 2008
Pau Gasol will be in Los Angeles today for his physical and might make his debut with the Lakers on Sunday, according to the LA Times. However, a Lakers' team source said it was 50-50 for Sunday, because Kwame Brown and Javaris Crittenton will have to get to Memphis and pass their physicals, too. Gasol's scoring may take a dip, but he'll still provide great overall fantasy stats in his new digs.
February 1, 2008
In a complete surprise, the Grizzlies have traded Pau Gasol to the Lakers for Kwame Brown, Javaris Crittenton and first-round draft picks in 2008 and 2010, according to the Memphis Commercial Appeal. The Grizzlies get some salary-cap relief, while the Lakers become immediate contenders in the West. Gasol has been dealing with a sore back, but he'll maintain most of his fantasy value in his new digs. Meanwhile, look for Darko Milicic and Hakeem Warrick to be the primary beneficiaries in the Memphis frontcourt.
January 26, 2008
Pau Gasol missed his second straight game Saturday. He's dealing with a sore back.
January 26, 2008
Pau Gasol hopes to be able to play on Saturday after missing Friday's run with a tight back, according to the Commercial Appeal. "I had to calm it down," Gasol said. "It's really inflamed. I don't like to sit out. I don't like to watch. I want to be out there helping my team win games." While he might want to play this evening, he warmed up before yesterday's game and couldn't get it loose enough to suit up for that contest, so clearly he'll be iffy tonight. After battling back, ankle and toe injuries, Gasol has been playing his best ball of the season, so let's hope he can return quickly.
January 25, 2008
Pau Gasol was unable to suit up for Friday's game due to a sore back, according to the AP. He warmed up with his Grizzlies teammates but ended up being a late scratch. We should have a better idea of his status for their next game by Saturday.
