Cardinals sign 17 to one-year deals
Jupiter, FL (Sports Network) - The St. Louis Cardinals signed 17 players to one-year contracts, the club announced Saturday, including outfielder Skip Schumaker and infielder Brendan Ryan.

Also signed were pitchers Mitchell Boggs, Jaime Garcia, Blake Hawksworth, Josh Kinney, Charlie Manning, Kyle McClellan, Jason Motte, Chris Perez and Matt Scherer; infielders Brian Barden, Tyler Greene and Jarrett Hoffpauir; and outfielders Brian Barton, Joe Mather, and Nick Stavinoha.

Player Notes
Adam Wainwright, P Saturday 3/20, 2:13 PM CT
Adam Wainwright finally flashed his dominant 2009 form on Saturday, striking out six Mets in five scoreless innings of work.

Our View:Waino's struggles this spring were never cause for worry, and he should remain one of the first pitchers taken in your draft this season.
Brendan Ryan, SS Saturday 3/20, 9:33 AM CT
Brendan Ryan (wrist) will make his spring training debut on Saturday after all, according to Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. He will bat second and play shortstop.

Our View:Reports on Friday had his debut being pushed to Monday, but he's apparently well enough to go today. This is very encouraging news for his regular season status.
Allen Craig, LF Friday 3/19, 10:05 PM CT
Allen Craig popped his second homer of the spring on Friday in a 13-5 loss to the Nationals.

Our View:Craig is trying to play his way into the vacant fourth outfield spot in St. Louis, but he may get a look at third base as well. He has outplayed favorite David Freese so far in camp and has experience at the hot corner in the minors. Regardless, his .290 average, five doubles, two homers and six RBI make him a solid candidate to land on the Cards' 25-man roster.
