Mariners P Silva leaves game
Arlington, TX (Sports Network) - Seattle Mariners pitcher Carlos Silva left Wednesday's start against the Texas Rangers in the seventh inning with a back injury.

Silva left the game with one out in the seventh and was charged with two runs on five hits with four strikeouts before leaving.

In his first season with Seattle after signing with the club in the offseason, the 29-year old righty is 3-2 in eight starts with a 4.17 earned run average.

Over seven seasons in the majors, his first two in Philadelphia and the next four with Minnesota, he has a 58-48 record... More...

Player Notes
Richie Sexson, 1B Friday 5/16, 5:42 PM CT
Richie Sexson's five-game suspension is up, and he is expected to return to the Mariners' lineup tonight, according to CBSsports.com.

Our View:He has seven homers this season, but only 18 RBI over 34 games, with a dismal .202 batting average.
Ichiro Suzuki, CF Thursday 5/15, 8:39 PM CT
There seems to be some concern with Ichiro Suzuki's current form. The veteran went hitless for the second straight game on Wednesday, taking a 0-for-6 bagel.

Our View:Note, however, that he lost 16 points of average in the last two games -- which tells us that May averages are still volatile. His peripherals are not any different than a year ago, and the Mariners outfielder started slow in '07 as well.
J.J. Putz, P Wednesday 5/14, 6:53 PM CT
J.J. Putz , the Seattle closer, worked two scoreless innings before starter Jarrod Washburn made his first relief appearance since 1999, and only his 11th in 265 games over 11 major league seasons. Putz, who earned his first win of the season, allowed one hit, walked one and struck out two.

Our View:With Wednesday night's game in extra innings, Putz was asked to extend his work load and pitched himself into a win.
