Santana strong as Mets hold off Yanks Bronx, NY (Sports Network) - Johan Santana pitched 7 2/3 strong innings,
survived three Yankees home runs, and the New York Mets held on for a 7-4 win
in the opener of a rain-shortened "Subway Series" at Yankee Stadium.
Friday's game between the clubs was postponed due to rain, allowing the
Yankees to start Andy Pettitte against the Mets ace. Santana (5-2) got the
best of the matchup, however, holding the Yankees to four runs on seven hits
with five strikeouts and two walks.

Andy Pettitte was dealt his fifth loss of the season on Saturday, as the Yankees were defeated by the Mets 7-4 at Yankee Stadium. Pettitte allowed three runs on seven hits over six innings, with two walks and seven strikeouts.
Our View:Pettitte is now 3-5 for the season, with a 4.42 ERA. He has allowed four or more runs in three of his last five starts, and hasn't won since April 20, when the Yankees beat Baltimore 7-1.
Derek Jeter had a solid outing in Saturday's 7-4 loss to the Mets. Jeter went 3-for-4 with two RBI and notched his second homer of the year, which came off of Mets' ace Johan Santana.
Our View:Jeter now has 22 hits, two homers, seven RBI, and 11 runs scored over 14 games in May.
Andy Pettitte is dueling with Mets' ace Johan Santana today at Yankee Stadium, according to MLB.com. Pettitte has made 16 starts against the Mets dating back to 1997, while going 7-3 with a 3.42 ERA. Pettitte is only 3-4 this season with a 4.40 ERA and 1.45 WHIP and is in need of a solid performance as he only lasted four innings in his last game against the Rays.
Our View:Darrell Rasner was supposed to face Santana last night, but he was skipped in the rotation as the game was postponed due to rain.
