Carlos Delgado, 1B Tuesday 7/8, 9:19 PM CT
Carlos Delgado hit his 16th home run of the year on Tuesday off of Giants starter Tim Lincecum. He was 2-for-3 on the night.

Our View: Delgado is hitting .357 in seven July games. He appears to have rediscovered his swing along with most of the Mets.
Carlos Beltran, CF Tuesday 7/8, 9:16 PM CT
Carlos Beltran put together another good game at the plate. He belted his 14th home run of the season on a 3-for-4 night. He added four RBI.

Our View: Fantasy owners are no doubt excited to see his offense pickup ever since having been threaten to bat second in the order.
Mike Pelfrey, P Tuesday 7/8, 9:13 PM CT
Mike Pelfrey outpitched Tim Lincecum and shutout the visiting Giants on Tuesday. He allowed three hits and no walks in seven innings of work.

Our View: It appears Pelfrey is the real deal after a disastrous May. He should continue to get good run support and is worth picking up if he is still available.
Moises Alou, LF Tuesday 7/8, 8:15 PM CT
Alou told the Norwich (Conn.) Bulletin, "There's a pretty good chance I might be (playing for the Mets) Friday. There's a chance I may wait until after the All-Star break, but my goal is to be back in New York this weekend."

Our View: With Ryan Church headed to the DL, the Mets could certainly use him. However, given Alou's recent history, the brontosaurus has a better chance of returning from extinction than Moises does of lasting a month with the Mets.
Ryan Church, RF Tuesday 7/8, 4:16 PM CT
According to Ed Coleman, during his appearance on WFAN, the Mets have placed OF Ryan Church on the 15-day disabled list due to consistent migraines.

Our View: Church was performing well since his return and was not expected to land on the DL. You just never know with concussions, though. Marlon Anderson and Fernando Tatis will be in line for playing time in the short term, but Moises Alou could be back shortly after the break.
Moises Alou, LF Tuesday 7/8, 11:22 AM CT
Moises Alou is expected to make one or two minor-league rehab assignments this week but most likely won't rejoin the Mets before the All-Star break, according to the NY Post.

Our View: He has been out since June 13 due to his strained left calf.
Ryan Church, RF Tuesday 7/8, 11:19 AM CT
The Mets still expect Ryan Church to return to the Mets' lineup this month, despite sending him home yesterday for further neurological tests by a second team doctor, according to the NY Post. GM Omar Minaya said Church isn't likely to go on the DL again because both the outfielder and the team feel Church's current dizziness is related to migraine headaches and not his two concussions this season.

Our View: Results of an MRI yesterday on Church's brain and neck were negative, and the Mets are listing him as day to day.
David Wright, 3B Monday 7/7, 11:04 PM CT
David Wright homered and drove in four runs as the Mets defeated the Phillies 10-9 on Monday night at Citizen Bank Park.

Our View: Wright has 17 home runs, 70 RBI, 56 runs scored and nine stolen bases on the season.
Billy Wagner, P Monday 7/7, 11:02 PM CT
It wasn't pretty but the Mets' closer, Billy Wagner, saved his 20th game of the season in a 10-9 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday night.

Our View: Wagner allowed two runs on two hits, walked one and struck out one in what was an exciting finish after the Mets led 10-1 heading into the six inning.
Pedro Martinez, P Monday 7/7, 10:59 PM CT
Pedro Martinez allowed two runs on five hits, walked three and struck out six and the Mets defeated the Phillies 10-9 on Monday night. Pedro pitched into the sixth inning then watched the New York Mets nearly blow a 10-1 lead before Bill Wagner recorded the third out in the ninth inning with the tying run on second base.

Our View: Martinez benefited from an early lead. His two runs were both home runs by the Philly sluggers. The Mets right-hander is not a recommended fantasy option outside of NL-only formats, and even then he's a reserve and spot starter depending on matchup.
Oliver Perez, P Monday 7/7, 6:09 PM CT
Oliver Perez, who posted his second consecutive quality start, put a strangle-hold on the Phillies allowing just six base-runners in seven shutout innings Sunday. Perez struck out six and has now allowed just one earned run and nine base runners in the last two starts (14 innings).

Our View: Do we credit a maturing Perez, or the new staff of the Mets, particularly Dan Warthen, the pitching coach? Warthen has been a pitching coach for the Tigers, Padres and Mariners, and most recently filled the same role for Triple-A New Orleans.
Fernando Tatis, RF Monday 7/7, 5:34 PM CT
While Fernando Tatis has been assisting in the latest run by the Mets, the team doesn't appear to threatening with Endy Chavez hitting second and Damion Easley hitting fifth. Tatis is starting in left field and hitting seventh on Monday as the Mets play the finale of a four-game series against the Phillies.

Our View: With Ryan Church's health in question and Luis Castillo on the disabled list, the Mets offense looks average at best.
John Maine, P Monday 7/7, 9:45 AM CT
John Maine, who is recovering from a left forearm cramp, expects to start for the Mets on Thursday, according to the NY Daily News. He indicated the ailment is just a stinger and he said he'll be fine.

Our View: This is the second time he has been bothered by cramps this season, and commented that he'll eat more bananas to avoid this from happening again.
Ryan Church, RF Monday 7/7, 9:40 AM CT
Ryan Church is going to undergo more tests on his head Monday, according to the NY Post. He was recently activated from the DL after suffering from post-concussion syndrome, and Church said, "The next day or two feels like I've been in a car accident or something, my head hurts when I'm barely moving and I'm nauseated. I'd rather have a concussion than a migraine."

Our View: The Mets don't plan to place Church back on the DL, although skipper Jerry Manuel said he did not know the exact date Church would make his next start in the outfield.
Billy Wagner, P Monday 7/7, 8:29 AM CT
Billy Wagner commented on his blown save against the Phillies on Sunday, according to MetsBlog.com. Wagner gave up a two-run shot to Jayson Werth in the bottom of the ninth inning, but the Mets came back to win the game in the 12th. Wagner commented, "That’s going to happen. I’d like to have bounced that slider, but I hung it and Jayson hit it. But, we came back and won it, the guys did great, they picked me up and we won and that’s fantastic."

Our View: Those two runs allowed snapped a seven-inning scoreless streak for him, and was his first blown save since June 12.
Oliver Perez, P Monday 7/7, 8:22 AM CT
Skipper Jerry Manuel praised Oliver Perez after hurling seven shutout innings against the Phillies on Sunday, according to MetsBlog.com. Manuel said, "Perez was awesome. He pitched extremely well. His last inning might have been one of his better innings of the night. So, that tells you he may have the endurance to even go further."

Our View: Over his last two starts, since making an adjustment to his delivery, Perez has pitched 14 innings, while allowing just one run and two walks while fanning 14.
Pedro Martinez, P Sunday 7/6, 11:57 PM CT
Pedro Martinez looks to lead the Mets to their third straight victory for the first time in more than a month Monday when they close a four-game series with the Phillies.

Our View: Martinez has a 3.27 ERA in 118.1 innings against the Phillies in his career. However, this season he has an 8.37 ERA on the road and the Phillies lineup is looking for revenge after a 12-inning loss on Sunday.
Joe Smith, P Sunday 7/6, 9:12 PM CT
Joe Smith picked up his second win of the year on Sunday by throwing 2.1 innings starting in the 10th. He gave up just one hit.

Our View: The Mets have been looking for consistent relif pitching all season and Joe Smith may get the nod more often after this pressure packed performance on the road against a division rival. His ERA is now 3.22.
Billy Wagner, P Sunday 7/6, 9:06 PM CT
Billy Wagner blew his sixth save of the season on Sunday. He gave up a two-run shot to Jayson Werth in the bottom of the ninth. The Mets won the game in the 12th.

Our View: This was his first blown save since June 12. He gave up three hits and recorded one strikeout in the game.
Jose Reyes, SS Sunday 7/6, 8:57 PM CT
Jose Reyes went 3-for-6 with a run and two stolen bases on Sunday.

Our View: It was his first multi-steal game since June 8 and his fifth of the season. He had 13 such games last season. Let's hope he increases his stolen base frequency going forward.
Fernando Tatis, RF Sunday 7/6, 8:53 PM CT
Fernando Tatis wins another game for the Mets, this time with a two-run shot in the top of the 12th.

Our View: Tatis entered the game as a pinch-hitter but didn't get a hit until his third at-bat. He does not figure to get enough at-bats to be a factor in fantasy leagues.
Carlos Beltran, CF Sunday 7/6, 8:21 PM CT
Carlos Beltran went 3-for-6 with a home run and two RBI on Sunday. The center fielder added two stolen bases in the winning effort.

Our View: Beltran was just two for his last 27. Fantasy owners beg for more performances like this in the second half.
Oliver Perez, P Sunday 7/6, 7:52 PM CT
Oliver Perez threw seven shut-out innings against the Phillies on Sunday. He struck out six and allowed just six hits against the opposition's vaunted lineup. He did not figure in the decision.

Our View: It appears Perez's new motion is doing wonders for him. In his last two appearances, against the Yankees and the Phillies, he has given just one run, seven hits, two walks and 14 strikeouts in 13 innings.
Orlando Hernandez, P Sunday 7/6, 4:13 PM CT
According to the New York Daily News, Orlando Hernandez threw four innings of four-hit ball. He gave up one earned run while striking out six.

Our View: This is very good news for the Mets and Hernandez who should return shortly after the All-Star break. He has yet to pitch this season, but could be a valuable second half addition in fantasy leagues. He went 9-5 with a 3.72 ERA over 147.2 innings in 2007. He also contributed 128 strikeouts.
Ryan Church, RF Sunday 7/6, 10:34 AM CT
As of now, Ryan Church is not penciled into Sunday's lineup against the Phillies, according to the NY Daily News.

Our View: Manager Jerry Manuel previously said Church would play today if his heachache has subsided, but Marlon Anderson looks to get the nod in left field.
Ryan Church, RF Sunday 7/6, 8:36 AM CT
Ryan Church stated that the dizziness he experienced on Saturday was not related to his concussions, and was merely a migraine, according to the NY Daily News. Church said, "I'm relieved that my doctor said that this was probably triggered because of a migraine. I'm going to get some medication for it, the onset of it, it's just like I had migraines in the past."

Our View: Manager Jerry Manuel said he would play Sunday if the headache has subsided.
Damion Easley, 2B Saturday 7/5, 9:44 PM CT
Damion Easley had a big night on Saturday with three hits, two runs scored and an RBI for the Mets out of the five hole.

Our View: That's seven games with a hit for Easley who is hitting .458 in that time (11-for-24). With the injury to Luis Castillo, Easley figures to see a substantial amount of playing time the next coupe of weeks.
Ryan Church, RF Saturday 7/5, 9:32 PM CT
Ryan Church was removed from the Mets game on Saturday night after complaining of dizziness, according to the New York Post.

Our View: Church, who has suffered two concussions this year, had recently returned from more than three weeks on the DL. Given the flack that the Mets took for allowing him to play earlier on, and the fact that Church clearly isn't right, it would be a shocker if he wasn't shutdown at least until after the All-Start break, and possibly much longer.
John Maine, P Saturday 7/5, 8:05 PM CT
John Maine was forced from his start on Saturday night with an injury to his non-pitching arm, an apparent forearm cramp, according to the MLB.com.

Our View: This is the second time Maine has been bothered by cramps this year (the other date was April 26th). Someone tell the guy to drink a bottle of Gatorade on days he pitches.
Carlos Beltran, CF Saturday 7/5, 7:53 PM CT
Carlos Beltran could be move up to second in the batting order as manager Jerry Manuel is locking for a way to spark some life into his offense, according to MLB.com. "It's a strong consideration if his bat doesn't liven up quickly," Manuel said.

Our View: With Luis Castillo on the DL, the team went with Ryan Church in the spot on Saturday, but the team has to figure out what to do with the slumping Beltran who's average has fallen to .262 with only two hits in his last 28 AB.
Moises Alou, LF Saturday 7/5, 9:49 AM CT
Moises Alou could resume his rehab assignment on Monday, the New York Daily News reports. He is on the DL due to a strained left calf and had a setback this past week.

Our View: Alou remains on pace to set the record for most injury status updates in a single season. He has appeared in one major league game since May 21.
David Wright, 3B Saturday 7/5, 9:43 AM CT
David Wright started on Friday despite a sore left groin that caused him to leave Thursday's contest early, the New York Daily News notes. He went 0-for-3 with a walk and an RBI on Friday.

Our View: It sounds like this ailment is very minor. Fantasy owners shouldn't be too concerned.
Jose Reyes, SS Friday 7/4, 9:04 PM CT
Jose Reyes went 0-for-3 with a walk in Friday's 3-2 win over the Phillies. He contributed a stolen base, his 29th of the season.

Our View: That was his first stolen bag since June 27, snapping a seven-game drought.
Johan Santana, P Friday 7/4, 8:56 PM CT
Johan Santana pitched well despite ending his night with a no decision, as he only allowed two earned runs on six hits over eight innings in Friday's 3-2 loss to the Phillies, with no walks and six strikeouts. The battle was tied 2-2 when he exited.

Our View: He had another strong performance, but his bad luck continues, as he is now winless in six-straight starts. He has allowed two or less earned runs in four of those outings, and should remain active in your lineups.
Ryan Church, RF Friday 7/4, 3:53 PM CT
Ryan Church will not be in the lineup tonight against the Phillies and lefty J.A. Happ, according to the New York Daily News.

Our View: Happ is a lefty, but Church hits lefties to the tune of .317. The team is probably just being careful with him since his return from post-concussion syndrome.
Jose Reyes, SS Friday 7/4, 10:09 AM CT
Jose Reyes got into an altercation with Mets broadcaster Keith Hernandez Sunday on the team's flight to St. Louis, according to the New York Post. Reyes was upset at comments Hernandez made that were critical of him. "He got his point [across] and I got mine," said Reyes

Our View: Reyes continues to act like a spoiled child, and you have to wonder if his immaturity is costing him on the field, and costing your fantasy team points.
Mike Pelfrey, P Thursday 7/3, 11:47 PM CT
Mike Pelfrey allowed a run and six hits in seven innings in his first career appearance against St. Louis, winning his fourth in a row on the road in the blowout 11-1 victory over St Louis on Thursday night.

Our View: The Mets have won six of his last seven starts and given him sick run support in the process. Pelfrey even contributed at the plate. The starter had been 2-for-57 (.035) for his career before his RBI single in the third.
Carlos Delgado, 1B Thursday 7/3, 11:45 PM CT
Carlos Delgado hit a two-run home run and recorded three RBI as the Mets offense seems to have found itself. New York pounded rookie right-hander Mitchell Boggs, rebounding from a disappointing one-run loss on Wednesday night, to earn a split in the four-game series.

Our View: Delgado's home run was his 15th of the season and the three RBI raises his total to 49 in 83 games played.
Chris Aguila, RF Thursday 7/3, 1:38 PM CT
Chris Aguila has been called up by the New York Mets, according to the New York Daily News.

Our View: Aguila will be a backup and will likely not offer fantasy owners much.
Luis Castillo, 2B Thursday 7/3, 1:31 PM CT
Luis Castillo will head to the disabled list with a strained left hip flexor, according to the New York Daily News.

Our View: Castillo isn't offering the Mets or fantasy owners much value at the moment. Damion Easley has been playing second base the last two days while Castillo was out.
Carlos Muniz, P Thursday 7/3, 7:52 AM CT
After just three appearances since being recalled on June 24, Carlos Muniz has once again been demoted to Triple-A according to the New York Daily News.

Our View: The reliever was very ineffective, allowing at least one run in each of his appearances. Still, the Mets like him enough. He will continue to make adjustments at Triple-A and could be back with the ballclub for the stretch run.
Damion Easley, 2B Wednesday 7/2, 11:44 PM CT
Damion Easley went 3-for-4 with three RBI in Wednesday's 8-7 loss to the Cardinals. He hit two singles and one double.

Our View: Easley has registered a hit in four-straight games and has recorded an RBI in each of his last two. He made another start at second base tonight, and is worth picking up in NL-only leagues if Luis Castillo lands on the DL.
Pedro Martinez, P Wednesday 7/2, 11:39 PM CT
Pedro Martinez surrendered five earned runs on seven hits over five innings in Wednesday's 8-7 loss to the Cardinals in St. Louis, with one walk and four strikeouts. He allowed two home runs in the game, both to slugger Troy Glaus.

Our View: Martinez ended his night with a no decision, and his ERA has risen to 7.39. He is 0-2 over his last three starts, and has allowed 17 earned runs over the span.
Luis Castillo, 2B Wednesday 7/2, 9:06 PM CT
Updating a previous report, Luis Castillo could land on the DL due to his sore left quad, according to MLB.com. Castillo said, "I have to make a decision if I'm going to go to the DL, because I don't want to get rest, man. I want to be playing most every day."

Our View: Castillo missed his second-straight game on Wednesday, and he will attempt to play again in the coming days. If his ailment doesn't improve, then he'll head to the DL in the hope that an extended rest will cure this problem for good. Damion Easley should continue to roam second base while he is out.
Luis Castillo, 2B Wednesday 7/2, 7:03 PM CT
Luis Castillo missed his second straight game on Wednesday due to his quad injury, according to the AP. Manager Jerry Manuel said he would consider using Castillo in a part-time capacity until he feels better. Manuel said he doesn’t think a stint on the 15-day DL will be needed.

Our View: Damion Easley made another start at second base in his place. Castillo made his sixth fielding error in his last appearance on Monday, which surpassed his total number from 2007.
Duaner Sanchez, P Wednesday 7/2, 8:58 AM CT
Duaner Sanchez left Tuesday nights game after taking a line drive off of his. The New York Post reports that he does not expect to miss any action.

Our View: Good news for the Mets and owners playing in deep leagues. Sanchez has been one of the most reliable pitchers out of New York's pen this year. He is 3-0 with a 3.79 ERA and 1.09 WHIP.
Billy Wagner, P Tuesday 7/1, 11:03 PM CT
Veteran reliever Billy Wagner pulled his 19th save of the season this evening, closing the 7-4 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals. Wagner closed the 9th inning with 13 pitches (eight for strikes), striking out two and getting the additional out via fly ball.

Our View: Wagner has been a rock of late, touting seven saves through 10 total inningsn June. He hasn't surrendered a run since June 12th.
David Wright, 3B Tuesday 7/1, 10:59 PM CT
The Mets found the offense needed to post the 7-4 win over the St. Louis Cardinals this evening, an effort led by the illustious third baseman David Wright . Wright went 3-for-4 with a walk, his 20th double and his 16th home run of the season to total one RBI and two runs scored.

Our View: Wright is now hitting .288 on the season, and while his power numbers fell in June (just four homers compared to seven in May), his run production is up (24 RBIs in June versus 17 in May).
Pedro Martinez, P Tuesday 7/1, 8:19 PM CT
Mets manager Pedro Martinez is keeping veteran RHP Pedro Martinez on regular rest while giving the young Mike Pelfrey an extra day of rest, according to SLAM Sports.

Our View: Martinez and Pelfrey both pitched in a doubleheader on Friday against the Yankees, and Manuel said he hoped consistent action would help Martinez. He's 2-2 with a 7.12 ERA in six starts and Pelfrey, who'll pitch Thursday in the final game of a four-game series against the Cardinals, is 5-6 with a 4.47 ERA. Manuel also noted tipping pitches has been one of the reasons for the three-time Cy Young Award winner's woes since returning from a strained left hamstring sustained in his first start of the year but indicates pitching coach Dan Warthen discussed the matter with Martinez and that the pitcher is focused on improving.
John Maine, P Tuesday 7/1, 7:30 PM CT
Mets RHP John Maine is reporting his throwing arm is doing just fine after telling the team his arm felt "dead" and "tired" on Monday, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Maine proceeded with his normal running workout on Tuesday, a day after complaining of a tired arm, and told manager Jerry Manuel that he was primed for his normal bullpen session Wednesday. Maine said his schedule had been a bit rushed following his previous start, with Friday's Subway Series doubleheader skewing everyone's schedules. And perhaps that was the reason why Maine lasted only four innings Monday, pitching without his usual zip.
Tony Armas, P Tuesday 7/1, 10:47 AM CT
Tony Armas will make his first start of the year on Tuesday night against the Cardinals, according to The Sports Network.

Our View: Armas will likely end up in the bullpen as the long man replacing Claudio Vargas, but if he turns some heads today after his strong work in the minors (2.54 ERA, 1.02 WHIP), perhaps he could end up with a more substantial role.
Moises Alou, LF Tuesday 7/1, 9:30 AM CT
Moises Alou wasn't able to begin his rehab assignment on Monday night but it wasn't due to a setback with his strained left calf as the weather forced the games to be called, according to Mets Blog.

Our View: Amazing that he wasn't injured opening up his umbrella or turning on his windshield wipers. Alou still hopes to return to the Mets this weekend in Philadelphia, but the brittle one is always a risk.
Carlos Delgado, 1B Tuesday 7/1, 9:27 AM CT
Despite his recent success at the plate, the Mets will continue to replace Carlos Delgado late in games for defensive purposes, according to Mets Blog. “Nothing against Carlos’s hands or anything, but I think Fernando [Tatis] gives us a little more range on that side," manager Jerry Manuel said. "I explained it to him hoping that he would understand, which he did. But, knowing that he wouldn’t like it because of who he is and what he’s been to the game, I’m all right with that.”

Our View: Tatis has only played nine games at first base in his career, so you can tell just how bad things have gotten on defense for Delgado. The bat will keep him in the starting lineup, but Delgado could lose just enough at-bats to cause his merely average production to fall even further.
Angel Pagan, LF Tuesday 7/1, 9:08 AM CT
Angel Pagan continues to rehab his shoulder in hopes of returning to the Mets lineup, but it appears that he might have to opt for season ending surgery, according to Mets Blog.

Our View: Apparently Pagan can throw just fine, but he still is unable to swing the lumber without discomfort. Pagan was a nice early story, but those memories have quickly faded.
