Angels edge D-Rays; close in on AL West title Anaheim, CA (Sports Network) - Ervin Santana pitched 6 1/3 innings to help the
LA Angels of Anaheim to a 2-1 win and a three-game sweep of the Tampa Bay
Devil Rays at Angel Stadium.
Santana (7-13) gave up just one run on six hits with two walks and 10
strikeouts for the Angels, who reduced their magic number to three to clinch
the AL West.
"He threw the ball well today," said Angels catcher Jeff Mathis about Santana.
"He' gaining a lot of confidence and keeping the ball down. He was throwing
that slider good today."
Dustin Moseley is set to make another rehab start Sunday, this time for Triple-A Salt Lake, according to the LA Times. The righty, who is coming back from a strained forearm, could be activated next week if all goes well.
Our View:Moseley would go to the bullpen upon activation, though he could always get some starts down the line.
Vladimir Guerrero had two hits and a run scored for the Angels as he is trying to start the long road back to excellence.
Our View:Vlad is hitting just .269 with a scant four home runs on the season, but we all know bad Vlad can go nuts and hit .400 for a month. Let's just hope that streak starts soon as this has been a pretty extensive cold period for the slugger.
Francisco Rodriguez entered a three to three game with the White Sox only to allow the go ahead run to score in the ninth inning to pick up his first loss of the season.
Our View:K-Rod has the 16 saves that we all desire, and this is likely just one of those rare times when an offense catches up to a closer. Brush it off an move on like he will.
