Marlins extend manager Gonzalez
Jupiter, FL (Sports Network) - Florida Marlins manager Fredi Gonzalez received a contract extension through the 2011 season on Tuesday.

Gonzalez has spent the last two seasons with the Marlins and has a 155-168 record. The 45-year-old guided Florida to an 84-77 record in 2008, keeping the team in playoff contention for much of the season and earning the 2008 Sporting News Manager of the Year award.

Logan Morrison ripped two doubles and a triple in Florida's 7-6 win over the Braves Sunday.

Our View:Morrison finished 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored in a game that Florida nearly blew. In his past four games, he's knocked six extra-base hits while carrying a .500 average (8-for-16).

Adalberto Mendez, P

Adalberto Mendez will make his first Major League appearance when he starts the first game of Florida's doubleheader Monday, according to Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald.

Our View:Mendez will be throwing against the Phillies Monday, and he carries no fantasy value right now. Between starting and relieving at the Double- and Triple-A levels, he's posted a 3.98 ERA over 86 innings.

Josh Johnson, P

Saturday 9/4, 9:27 PM CT

Josh Johnson matched his season-best strikeout total with 12 on Saturday evening, but fell to 11-6 on the year in Florida's 2-0 loss to the Braves.

Our View:He allowed two runs in six innings of work. The double-digit strikeout effort was his fourth of the season.
