Murphy's homer helps A's snap White Sox's seven-game win streak
Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - Donnie Murphy hit the go-ahead home run in the fifth inning and Justin Duchscherer was impressive on the mound, as the Oakland Athletics edged the Chicago White Sox, 3-2, in the opener of a four- game set.

Duchscherer (9-5) tossed seven frames and yielded just two runs on five hits to pick up the win for the A's, who are 2-4 over their last six contests. Jack Cust accounted for the other two Oakland runs with a game-tying two-run homer in the fourth inning.

Player Notes
Jim Thome, DH Friday 7/4, 9:30 PM CT
Jim Thome went 2-for-4 and notched Chicago's lone RBI in Friday's tough 7-1 loss to Oakland at US Cellular Field. His hit went for a double, which was also the club's only extra base hit of the game.

Our View:That was his 44th RBI of the season, with six coming over his last six games.
Mark Buehrle, P Friday 7/4, 9:22 PM CT
Mark Buehrle surrendered four earned runs on 10 hits over 5.2 innings in Friday's disappointing 7-1 loss to the Athletics at home, with three walks and five strikeouts. Half of the damage came on a two-run homer by Jack Cust.

Our View:Buehrle falls to 6-7, with a 3.91 ERA. Tonight's loss snaps a three-game winning streak, in which he only allowed a total of three earned runs.
Esteban Loaiza, P Friday 7/4, 5:09 PM CT
Esteban Loaiza has been recalled from his rehab assignment at Triple-A Charlotte, according to the AP. The 36-year-old vet landed on the DL on June 13 due to right shoulder inflammation.

Our View:Loaiza isn't worth adding to your roster, as he will fight for innings as a middle-reliever, and allowed 16 earned runs over 27 innings of action this season.
