Cubs sign Koskie to minor league deal
Mesa, AZ (Sports Network) - The Chicago Cubs have agreed to terms on a minor league contract with infielder Corey Koskie, the club announced Saturday.

Koskie will join the Cubs after he finishes playing for Team Canada in the World Baseball classic.

Koskie has not played in the major leagues since 2006, with Milwaukee, when he batted .261 with 12 home runs and 33 RBI in 76 games. Koskie, 35, spent seven of his nine MLB seasons with Minnesota, and owns a career .275 average with 124 homers and 506 RBI.... More...

Player Notes
Carlos Marmol, P Thursday 2/4, 11:26 AM CT
Carlos Marmol and the Cubs have avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $2.125 million deal, according to MLB.com's Carrie Muskat.

Our View:With Kevin Gregg out the door, Marmol will enter 2010 as Chicago's unquestioned ninth-inning man. While his control remains an issue, he has the top-notch stuff to be a dominant closer.
Kevin Gregg, P Tuesday 2/2, 1:13 PM CT
Kevin Gregg is apparently on the verge of signing with the Blue Jays, according to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports.

Our View:Since the Jays already have Scott Downs and Jason Frasor as legitimate late-game options, this would be a puzzling move. Especially when you consider the fact that Gregg has been run out of two separate towns the past two seasons after blowing 16 combined saves. Stay tuned.
Kevin Gregg, P Tuesday 2/2, 8:43 AM CT
Kevin Gregg has narrowed his market to the Rockies, Blue Jays and Padres, according to Tim Brown of Yahoo! Sports.

Our View:Congratulations if your team has decided to take itself out of the running (looking at you, Florida). While a "closer" both of the past two seasons, Gregg lost his job in Chicago last summer after blowing seven saves, and blew nine saves while posting a 3.41 ERA for the Marlins in 2008. Gregg can throw the ball hard, but do little else.
