Cubs activate Johnson
San Francisco, CA (Sports Network) - The Chicago Cubs activated outfielder Reed Johnson from the 15-day disabled list on Thursday.

The 31-year-old went on the shelf on June 24, retroactive to June 18, due to lower back spasms.

In 56 games for the Cubs this year, Johnson is batting .271 with three homers and 31 RBI since coming over from Toronto on March 25 as a free agent.

In a related roster move, the club optioned infielder Eric Patterson to Triple-A Iowa.... More...

Player Notes
Mark DeRosa, 2B Saturday 7/5, 6:49 PM CT
Mark DeRosa hit his 11th home run of the season, and third in six games for the Cubs on Saturday.

Our View:DeRosa seemingly qualifies at every position this year, and given his .289-11-48 line, it can actually be argued that he is one of the top-50 fantasy options this season because of that versatility.
Aramis Ramirez, 3B Saturday 7/5, 6:47 PM CT
Aramis Ramirez powered his 15th long ball of the year on Saturday and finished with two RBI for the Cubs leaving him with 57 RBI on the season.

Our View:Ramirez is a slight bit behind a 30-HR pace this year, but he clearly is a solid bet to reach that total this year hitting in the heart of the Cubs order.
Kerry Wood, P Saturday 7/5, 6:41 PM CT
Kerry Wood was saddled with his second loss and fifth blown save on Saturday against the Cardinals. Wood walked two batters, then gave up a double and then a single to blow the game.

Our View:Wood has been one of the better closers in baseball this season, but eventually everyone eventually throws a stinker out there. Consider this outing to be one of those, and look for a strong comeback effort next time out for Wood.
