To make room for Moises Alou on the roster, the Mets designated Sandy Alomar Jr for assigment on Friday, according to the AP. Alomar was 2-for-6 in three games with the Mets this season.

Sandy Alomar Jr agreed to a minor-league deal with the Mets on Monday, according to the AP. He hit .278 in 108 at-bats last season. He'll try to win a backup catcher job behind Paul Lo Duca during the spring.
