Skipper Bruce Bochy noted that Buster Posey is a long shot to make the Giants' roster out of spring training, according to the Associated Press.

Our View:The prized prospect will likely go to Triple-A to continue to develop his skills. He would not benefit as much from serving as a backup behind Bengie Molina. Posey should certainly find his way to the Giants at some point during the season though.

According to the San Jose Mercury News, the Giants plan on working out prized catching prospect Buster Posey at several infield positions this spring.

Our View:The Giants re-signed catcher Bengie Molina this offseason, so Posey's road to the majors as a starting catcher has been blocked for one more year. Working him out at other infield positions is harmless and would give him versatility in case of a September call-up. Expect him to start the year in Triple-A, where he performed very well last year. He hit .325/.416/.531 with 18 homers and 80 RBI between there and Single-A.

General manager Brian Sabean said that he's confident the Giants will add a veteran catcher this offseason, possibly Yorvit Torrealba or Rod Barajas, which would mean prospect Buster Posey would open the season in the minors, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Our View:The 22-year-old Posey still has a bright future in the big leagues, though a potential signing of a veteran catcher would certainly put a damper his fantasy value heading into this season, so stay tuned.

After much speculation that he would begin 2010 in the minor leagues, the Giants' starting catcher job is now Buster Posey's "to lose," according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Our View:That would be a bold move by a team who is letting one of the better offensive catchers in the game walk this offseason. Posey has hit well in his minor league career, batting .327, but has appeared in just 125 games. That would seem to be far too little seasoning for someone expected to lead a major league pitching staff. Make this a position situation to watch this spring training.
