The Orioles have acquired LaTroy Hawkins from the Giants in exchange for Steve Kline, according to ESPN. Hawkins will get to work with renowned pitching coach Leo Mazzone, and there's at least a chance he could end up in the closer role in Baltimore.

LaTroy Hawkins pitched a bullpen workout Tuesday and probably will begin a two-game rehab assignment with Triple-A Fresno on Thursday, according to the Mercury News. He has been out since June 17 with right ulnar neuritis. "It felt pretty good," said Hawkins. "The main thing is how it feels tomorrow."

The Giants acquired LaTroy Hawkins from the Cubs on Saturday in exchange for Jerome Williams and David Aardsma. Hawkins is one of the best setup men in baseball but has been a failure every time he's been used as a closer, so it's unlikely that the Giants will go that route.

Cubs manager Dusty Baker said Tuesday that he did not believe that LaTroy Hawkins was tipping his pitches, which was suggested earlier in the day by former Phillies manager Larry Bowa on a radio show. Cubs manager Dusty Baker has left open the possibility that LaTroy Hawkins could close games when the season begins, according to the Sun-Times. "I'm not sure yet," Baker said. "Everybody has mentioned (Ryan) Dempster. You don't know if he can do it or not -- he's never done it. Joe Borowski might be healthy, you never know. LaTroy Hawkins might be more experienced in that role than he was last year. [Hawkins] certainly has the stuff. It's just a matter of trying to close the games out too quickly vs. dissecting guys. LaTroy will be better, too, because he knows the league [better]."
