Andy Pettitte reportedly turned down a contract offer below $16 million (his 2008 salary) by the Yankees a few weeks ago, according to the NY Post.

Our View:The Yankees are not expected to offer him salary arbitration, and he does not intend to take a pay cut to remain in New York.
November 30, 2008
The Yankees want Andy Pettitte to be part of their rotation for 2009, but he reportedly feels rejected by the team, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View:This could be speculation as it was previously stated that Pettitte wants to remain in New York and is looking forward to pitching in the new Yankee Stadium. Stay tuned for further developments regarding the lefty hurler.
November 26, 2008
There are rumors that Andy Pettitte is talking to former skipper Joe Torre regarding joining the Dodgers, but Ken Davidoff of Newsday states a Dodgers' official said it was unlikely that the club would acquire Pettitte.

Our View:Pettitte still prefers to remain in New York and wants to finish his career in pinstripes. He also wants to pitch in the new Yankee Stadium.
November 25, 2008
Foxsports.com is reporting that their are rumors flying around that Andy Pettitte has made a call to his former manager, Joe Torre, about possibly joining the Dodgers.

November 18, 2008
Andy Pettitte's agent does not want him to settle for a pay cut to remain with the Yankees, according to the NY Post. He made $16 million in 2008.

Our View:Pettitte's value to the Yankees will decrease a bit if they land prized free agent hurlers CC Sabathia and AJ Burnett.
November 9, 2008
Andy Pettitte has officially filed for free agency and the Yankees now have until Thursday to negotiate with the left-hander before he can talk dollars with other teams, according to MLB.com.

Our View:Despite saying he would like to pitch for the Yankees in 2009, the Yankees have yet to offer the 215 game winner a contract. We still expect something to get done as the Yankees clearly need depth in their starting rotation, something that Pettitte can still provide.
November 5, 2008
Andy Pettitte would like to re-sign with the Yankees for next season, according to the Journal News. He said, "I’d like to play again. My thoughts are there."

Our View:Joe Girardi has already said he wants Pettitte back, and it is just a matter of time before the Yankees make a deal for the solid veteran lefty.
October 17, 2008
The New York Post reports that Andy Pettitte may be seeking a two-year deal this offseason. The Yankees would rather just sign him for one more season.

Our View:Pettitte, who made $16 million this past season when he was 14-14 with a 4.54 ERA, was swayed to put off retirement after talking it over with his wife and sons, who are at the age where they enjoy hanging around the Yankees and their big league father. Ideally, the Yankees want Pettitte back as a fourth or fifth starter for a lot less money.
October 15, 2008
Andy Pettitte will pitch in 2009, according to a report on ESPN by Buster Olney.

Our View:The report states that Pettitte intends to pitch for the Yankees next season after an average effort of 14-14 with a 4.54 ERA. He wasn't great, but given the Yankees lack of depth in the rotation they almost certainly must have him back in the fold to have any hope of reaching the playoffs next season.
September 27, 2008
The MRI on Andy Pettitte's shoulder showed an inflamed rotator cuff and it should heal with rest according to Newsday.

Our View:This is certainly good news for Pettitte who will likely re-sign with the Yankees for at least one more season next year.
September 24, 2008
Newsday reports that Andy Pettitte has been scratched from his scheduled start this Saturday. Pettitte's left shoulder has been "barking" for some time, and since they are out of it, he will be shut down. He had an MRI done at the start of the last homestand and nothing was found to be structurally wrong. In other words, rest should cure it.

Our View:Pettitte has been pretty terrible since the All-Star break. He is 4-7 with a 5.35 ERA in 13 starts since then. At least he knows he's been off. "I just look at the big thing was me personally. I just think I pitched terrible," said Pettitte. Odds are he still returns to the Yankees rotation in 2009.
September 21, 2008
Andy Pettitte evened his record at 14-14 on Sunday allowing three runs, two earned, over five innings against the Orioles.

September 16, 2008
Andy Pettitte endured a career high fifth straight loss after giving up four runs in six innings versus the White Sox on Tuesday.

September 16, 2008
Andy Pettitte underwent an MRI, but it showed no damage to his shoulder, and he will continue to start the remainder of the season, according to the New York Post.

Our View:There is something wrong with Pettitte's shoulder, however, as he admitted it will take a full offseason in order for it to be 100 percent. He has been horrendous recently, losing his last four games and carrying an ERA over 7.00 in that time.
September 12, 2008
MLB.com reports that Andy Pettitte will start Sunday's Yankee Stadium finale. Pettitte has spent 11 of 14 seasons in a Yankees uniform. He has 165 start in the soon-to-be demolished landmark and a record of 94-41 over 1109 innings.

Our View:Pettitte has struggled in the second half this season but figures to give this start everything he's got. Since the All-Star break, he is 3-6 with a 5.43 ERA.
September 10, 2008
Andy Pettitte lost for the sixth time in nine starts on Wednesday as he allowed four runs and nine hits in just 4.2 innings against the Angels.

Our View:On July 27th Pettitte was 12-7 with a 3.76 ERA, and now he is 13-13 with a 4.52 mark. Not much is going right with the Yankees, and Pettitte's struggles simply highlight that fact. Andy has never finished a season with a sub .500 record.
September 9, 2008
Andy Pettitte commented that his banged-up body isn't bad enough for him to retire after this season, according to the NY Post. He said, "I don't feel quite as good coming down the stretch this year as I did last year. I feel banged up."

Our View:Pettitte can still get the job done as he holds a 4.49 ERA and 1.39 WHIP over 30 starts in 2008.
August 31, 2008
Andy Pettitte was hit hard by the Blue Jays, and he suffered his 11th loss of the year by allowing 10 hits and six runs over 6.1 innings.

Our View:This is the second consecutive game that Pettitte has allowed six earned runs, which should be concerning to fantasy owners. He also struck out just 26 batters in August, his lowest total since April.
August 20, 2008
The Yankees took the Blue Jays to the woodshed this evening, laying down the 5-1 win on the arm of LHP Andy Pettitte. Pettitte pitched seven innings, allowing one run on five hits with no walks and four strikeouts.

Our View:Pettitte moves to 13-9 on the season with an ERA of 4.17, though this is his first win in five starts.
August 20, 2008
Andy Pettitte would not like to work with catcher Ivan Rodriguez again this season, according to the Journal News.

Our View:The trade from the Tigers is not working out well, as Rodriguez is only 8-for-35 (.229) since joining the Yankees, and Pettitte is questioning his pitch-calling.
August 8, 2008
Andy Pettitte will make his next scheduled start despite numerous reports that the 36-year-old veteran is dealing with a tired arm, according to the AP. He is slated to start Sunday against the Angels. Pettitte said, "No one has ever discussed missing a start with me. I am pitching. I have not discussed missing a start with anybody."

Our View:It is favorable news that he isn't expected to miss a start, but he has struggled in each of his last two outings, and is a risky fantasy starter against the strong Angels' lineup.
July 31, 2008
Andy Pettitte was rocked by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. The lefty threw 5.1 innings, allowing nine earned runs on 11 hits. He also walked three and gave up two home runs.

Our View:Bad night for Pettitte, which was obvious by his lack of control, which is usually sparkling. Just chalk this one up to a bad night.
July 26, 2008
Andy Pettitte threw well for the Yankees in their victory over Boston. The lefty got his 12th win by throwing six innings, allowing one earned run and striking out seven.

July 20, 2008
Andy Pettitte pitched a gem against the Athletics at Yankee Stadium in Sunday's close 2-1 win. He only issued one earned run on four hits over eight innings, with no walks and nine strikeouts.

July 13, 2008
Andy Pettitte wasn't terrible, but he still got the loss in today's game against Toronto. He threw six innings, and though he struck out six batters, he gave up four runs and eight hits.

Our View:Pettitte's ERA is now above 4.00 again after getting under that mark in his last start. He is still a quality option to pitch for your fantasy team and will provide wins and a decent WHIP because of his excellent control.
July 8, 2008
Andy Pettitte rebounded from a rough start against Boston by shutting out the Rays over eight innings of work on Tuesday. He allowed just four hits and no walks while striking out five.

July 3, 2008
Andy Pettitte didn't have much to offer his teammates in the 7-0 loss to the Red Sox on Thursday night in the Bronx. The left-hander allowed six runs (five earned), walked three and struck out two. Pettitte had been 6-0 since May 17 with a 3.54 ERA.

June 28, 2008

June 28, 2008

Pettitte lost to the Mets earlier in the year and is 7-4 lifetime against them with a 3.48 ERA. Santana lost his second straight start and third consecutive decision on Monday against Seattle, as he allowed five runs (one earned) and seven hits in seven innings. June 12, 2008
Andy Pettitte held the Athletics to just one run over eight innings on Thursday night as he won his sixth game of the season. Pettitte found success by limiting his walks allowing only one on the night along with permitting just five hits.

Our View:After being a punching bag in his last two outings (14 ER in 13.2 IP), Pettitte looked liked the pitcher who owns 207 career victories tonight. No longer the pitcher he once was, Pettitte still keeps the Yankees in it most nights which meaning he still has a chance to put up a solid win total the rest of the way.
June 11, 2008
Yankee LHP Andy Pettitte has told reporters that he has pondered what he will do next season and realizes that future may not include the New York Yankees, according to the Associated Press.

Our View:The Yanks will be in a new stadium and reporters asked Pettitte if he thought the idea of pitching int that stadium was exciting, to which Pettitte replied that he had no idea if he would be in pinstripes or not. Pettitte, who turns 36 on Sunday, spent three stints on the disabled list in 2004 and wound up having elbow surgery. He still deals with the fear of something happening with his elbow though insists he has been pain-free since rejoining the Yankees last year. This season he is 5-5 with a 4.99 ERA heading into Thursday's start and coming off consecutive no-decisions.
June 7, 2008
Andy Pettitte was beaten into submission on Saturday as the Royals pounded him for 10 hits and 10 runs in 6.2 innings of work.

Our View:Very few pitchers give up 10 runs and record a no-decision as Pettitte did today. Pettitte has now allowed 20 hits and 15 runs over his last two outings which might signify that his oft injured elbow is once again acting up on him.
May 19, 2008

May 12, 2008
Andy Pettitte, who's owned the Rays and was 8-1 at Tropicana Field before giving up five runs and eight hits in four innings on Monday night, suffered his fourth loss of the season.

Our View:Pettitte was an impressive 14-3 lifetime against Tampa Bay coming into the game, however these aren't the Rays your father watched. The Rays have now won two of three matchups against Pettitte this season.
May 11, 2008
The finale of the weekend series between the New York Yankees and Detroit Tigers was postponed by rain on Sunday. A makeup date wasn't immediately announced. Yankees' starter Andy Pettitte is scheduled to pitch on Monday at Tampa Bay. Nate Robertson of the Tigers, has not been announced as Detroit's pitcher for Tuesday's contest at Kansas City.

Our View:There is a chance the Tigers will skip Robertson to keep their top three starters on regular rest.

April 10, 2008

April 5, 2008
Andy Pettitte picked up the loss in his first start of the season after allowing five runs, three earned, in five innings. Pettitte allowed eight hits and two walks over his 86 pitches, and was generally very unimpressive against the Rays. Pettitte still figures to win his 14-15 games as long as he can stay healthy, but it might be a bumpy ride in the ratio categories.
April 5, 2008
The Yankees will welcome Andy Pettitte to the mound against the Tampa Bay Rays today in the veteran's first start of the '08 season, according to the Sports Network. Pettitte opened the season on the disabled list with back issues, but he appears to be set for action today and hopes to continue what has been a strong career string of success against the Rays, sporting a record of 13-2 with a 3.53 ERA over 21 games against this team.
April 1, 2008
Andy Pettitte threw 75 pitches in a minor-league game Sunday and remains on track to make his season debut against the Rays on Saturday, according to Newsday. If Pettitte should suffer some sort of setback, Darrell Rasner probably would start in his place. The lefty was originally slated to start the team's second game of the season but a sore back pushed him back. It sounds like he'll be good to go this weekend, though.
March 29, 2008
Andy Pettitte reported no problems on Saturday, following his Friday bullpen session, according to the AP. "I’m good to go. I feel good," Pettitte said. He'll work a minor league game on Sunday and so long as his sore back holds up, he should make his first regular-season start next Saturday.

The southpaw could throw another bullpen session on Thursday and open the season on April 4 against the Rays.
March 25, 2008

The Yankees have reshuffled their pitching rotation to accommodate Pettitte, who has been pushed back to the third or fourth game of the season because of back spasms. Pettitte has been on the shelf since last week, when he experienced tightness in his lower back while driving home from Legends Field. He threw 47 balls on flat ground on Monday and was scheduled to undergo treatment on Tuesday before throwing a side session on Wednesday. Pettitte stated, "I just want to be healthy now. Did I want to pitch game two? Of course I did. That's where they lined me up to pitch. The important thing for me right now is that I want to be healthy. If I miss a start, it's not the end of the world. I'm encouraged right now that they're not talking about skipping a turn. It's progressing, and I feel like I will start in that first series." He remains a risky fantasy prospect heading into opening day.
March 24, 2008

"I just can't get on the mound until I don't feel anything when I get over my front side," Pettitte said. "We'll start with playing catch and see how I feel." At this point it seems like a stretch to think that Pettitte will be able to make his first start of the season, but no one seems too nervous about his ability to pitch early in April since they just think that he is dealing with a muscle strain.
March 22, 2008

It's the second time this spring the Yankees left-hander has been scratched from a minor league start on Saturday due to back spasms. Kelly Blair, who owns a gym in Pasadena, Texas, was the source of the substance, noted a report in the New York Daily News on Sunday. Pettitte, who has admitted using hGH in 2004, told congressional attorneys that he received it from his father, Tom Pettitte, who has had serious health problems. In his deposition, Pettitte said his father got the drugs from a trainer at a gym where he worked out but did not identify the trainer. Pettitte is scheduled to finally report to Spring Training today in Florida.
February 13, 2008
Andy Pettitte will report five days late to training camp, a result of his having to testify in front of Congress according to a report on Reuters. Pettitte likely needs the time just to decompress from the past week's worth of craziness, and given his illustrious career and dedication to training, this will likely have no effect on his ability to take the hill during the first week of the season.
February 13, 2008
The NY Post is reporting that in Andy Pettitte's affidavit, the pitcher revealed a conversation he had with Roger Clemens nearly 10 years ago in which Clemens admitted to using human growth hormone. Pettitte also said Clemens backtracked when the subject of HGH came up again in conversation in 2005, and Clemens responded by saying Pettitte misunderstood the previous exchange and that he had been talking about HGH use by his wife in the original conversation. We should know more about how all of this will shake out after Clemens and his former trainer, Brian McNamee, appear before congress today.
February 11, 2008

Pettitte was already deposed last week.
