The Tigers placed Troy Percival on the 60-day disabled list. Percival left camp in late February. Most likely, the only reason he has not announced his retirement is so that he can still collect the rest of his contract.

Troy Percival left training camp on Monday, according to the AP. His locker was cleaned out and his nameplate was removed. "Obviously, in his mind, he doesn't think that he's ready to compete at this level," Tigers manager Jim Leyland said Monday. Percival has been battling elbow woes, and he will likely never throw another pitch in the big leagues, although he has not officially announced his retirement.

Although Troy Percival didn't exactly say he was retiring yesterday, in all likelihood, he won't pitch in a game again, according to the Detroit News. He still had pain and weakness in his right elbow during an intrasquad scrimmage yesterday. "I've been fighting it all spring, but it's just not there," he said. "I can't help this club. With my heart, I think I can, but I have to be realistic. There's nothing there. I've been doing anything I can do to see if it was going to be enough, and it's not."

Troy Percival, who pitched in just 26 games last year due to arm trouble, reported to camp to find out what he could do, according to the Detroit News. "It's not doing bad," he said about his right elbow. "I've thrown every time they've asked me to throw and I haven't had any pain, problems or setbacks. I didn't start throwing until early January, and it's OK." It's unclear what Percival's role with the Tigers will be if he's healthy enough to make the team.

The Detroit News reports that Troy Percival has told the Tigers that he would consider being used as a starter in 2006 so that he could have substantial rest between appearances. Percival missed most of the 2005 season with a torn forearm muscle and has considered retirement.
